Our family had a fantastic experience with our personal guide Paulo L. from TakingUThere tours. His personal knowledge of regional history, architecture and culture enriched our experience of the region tremendously. We were first-time visitors, and Paulo was able to balance everything perfectly. He fit a lot into our tour: the Palacio National de Pena, Cascais, and Sintra. We could not have done so much on our own and it helped us appreciate the natural beauty, variety of terrains, architecture, and people of Portugal. Paulo was thoughtful about our interests, including in trying local foods. After all of our touring, we had a fantastic lunch of fresh, local fare overlooking the ocean at a cozy bistro in Cascais. Paulo even squeezed in a stop in the old Lisbon neighborhood of Belin on our trip back to the hotel--so we could visit the historic bakery that makes those famous custard tarts. But be ready for a line around the block to get in if you want to stop for coffee and pastry. We highly recommend this tour and Paulo is a gem of a guide!

my partner and i took the sintra and cascais private tour led by the company's owner joão dickmann. we chose to tour sintra palace , the moorish castle and pena palace, followed by visits to cabo da roca and cascais, but the itinerary is completely flexible based on your interests. it was very well organized, and our charming host joão was extremely informative and knowledgeable about the historic background of each site, and about portugal in general. there never seemed to be a question to which he didn't have the answer. joão was very accommodating, flexible, and patient throughout the entire day he spent with us. we really enjoyed the day, and saw a wonderful and important area of portugal with some great insights into the background of each location. this tour was excellent value for money and we highly recommend it. thank you joão!
