The drive to the castle is not that long and is worth it. Guide was very knowledgeable and nice. The castle needs some painting/cleaning outside, but I am aware that’s not Viator’s responsibility. : )

My husband and I had a terrific time with tour guide Bruno and one other traveler on this five-hour, small-group trip to Sintra. We toured the inside of the Pena Palace and then drove past several other sites of interest, taking in the whole area, which would have been almost impossible to do without a car. Since we prefer to avoid the hassle of renting/driving/parking cars in foreign countries, this was definitely the way to go.
Apart from not having to worry about logistics, the real plus of the day was the value that Bruno added. Knowledgeable, relaxed, personable — he helped our little group click almost immediately and kept things humming the whole day. He was very present — a good listener — and helped us connect with the things that really interested us and with each other. I would recommend Bruno for any tour he leads.
Speaking of interests, if we had to do it over again, we might look for a version of this tour that included a look inside Monserrate, beyond an exterior viewing. But it’s hard to know — there are SO MANY sites in Sintra that it’s a little mind-boggling, and difficult to determine which ones you might want to spend more time at, until you actually see the lay of the land. All in all, we felt the amount we were able to see and learn in this particular half-day tour was pretty much on target for our energy level and attention span.

Would highly recommend this tour of Sintra and the Pena Palace. Our guide Julio was excellent and his local knowledge and enthusiasm made the trip all the more special. The whole place is otherworldly and hard to believe it is so close to Lisbon. Truly enchanting.

A visit to Pena Palace in Sintra is a dive into a fairytale. Our private guide Diogo provided a very good tour tailored to our specific requests. Be prepared to walk a lot and climb many stairs.

Our driver, Rodrigo, took what could have been an average tour and made it an amazing tour! When a part of the Peña Palace was closed due to weather he took us to see another part. He gaged our group and used the time we had together wisely (ie suggesting getting a coffee instead of waiting in the long line until the next time slot for the indoor tour started). He also gave us many suggestions for restaurants and tours in other cities that our group was going to visit. It was the perfect amount of time in Sintra.

Ravi is outstanding! His knowledge regarding Sintra, & the history of Pena Palace, made our visit all the more special. Ravi was a delightful companion, funny & caring. I was originally scheduled for this tour but due to a lack of other participants it was cancelled . However the tour company was generous enough to offer me the opportunity to upgrade to the full day tour at no extra cost!
I am grateful for their offer and would recommend this tour to everyone.

We signed up for 4 hours, but got the 8 hour tour. The rain was torrential and so dangerous trekking down the mountain after the castle tour. The castle was amazing, but we were so very wet afterwards that we paid for an Uber to go back to Lisbon.

We attempted to contact you several times before the experience, but unfortunately we were unable to reach you. Due to the weather conditions and the fact that the minimum number of passengers was not met, your original 4-hour tour was set to be cancelled. To avoid disappointing you and ensure that you could still enjoy Sintra, we offered an extended tour at no additional cost. As we were reaching the operational time limit and had received no response, we associated you with the longer tour so that your experience could still take place.
We sincerely apologise if this did not align with your expectations.
Regarding the weather, Portugal/Sintra is currently experiencing a period of storms and extremely unstable conditions. Even so, we always provide rain jackets, umbrellas and blankets in the vehicle to minimise the impact and maintain the best quality possible under the circumstances.

No one showed up from “O Turistra! Tours and travels”. Very disappointed with this company and would not recommend. Another couple got cancelled by them too last minute.

In these cases, we cannot guarantee the required Palácio da Pena tickets, meaning the tour quality and full experience would not have been assured.
Regarding the other couple you mentioned, their tour was not cancelled — it was rescheduled for the following day, ensuring they could enjoy the complete experience with all inclusions.

Our tour with Julio was fantastic! He was prompt, patient, personable and very informative. His English was very good. He’s also a very safe driver. The guided tour was just that, a tour with a guide (unlike other “private” tours that drive you to destinations but then leave you to explore on your own without commentary or information on what you’re seeing). I would highly recommend this tour to small groups who want to see Sintra and the Peña palace and have a unhurried and informative tour.
