Comments about the organizer: This tour is a great way to maximize your time. Between the transportation, parking, and timed entry tickets it’s quite a logistical mess. This tour arranges all that for you. Our guide deftly managed our time and positioning to always be in the right time and place to keep us moving. That was especially needed since we visited on a very busy Sunday. We did this as a cruise ship excursion. Originally we were to meet at the Hard Rock Cafe which was 2-3km from the ship. Carlos messaged on WhatsApp that he could pick us up from the port directly. So that was a much appreciated convenience. He also managed the time to ensure we didn’t miss our ship’s departure.
About the tour:
The first stop was the Pena Palace. There’s quite a bit of hilly walking involved. I’d say that the best part was actually the outdoor terraces. You can enjoy the ornamentation, tiles work, and viewpoints from the terraces. There is a timed entry tickets to the interior of the palace. If you were pressed with time I’d say that’s something you could skip. Carlos entrained us throughout with stories of the various royal intrigues associated with the palaces.
The next stop was the Quinta de Regaleira. Apparently not every tour selects that option. The site is a labyrinth of constructed tunnels, turrets, and fountains. There was Masonic/Telmplar/illuminati symbols everywhere— some overt, some subtle. I imagine it’s what you’d get if Disneyland made a “Da Vinci Code” attraction. Carlos brought it to online by narrating the (supposed) Masonic secret rituals initiates would endure.
The final stop was a drop off to spend about 45 minutes in the historic city center. That was just enough time to get a quick taste of pastries. It was tasty to be sure. But overall the city center was crowded and touristy with nowhere to sit and enjoy our pastry in comfort.
Lisbon has quite an eclectic collection of architectures brought in from all over Europe. Sintra even more so. Carlos helped us to understand the history of how each piece came to be. He also had a wealth of knowledge about the flora covering the mountain.
Carlos was a great guide who adapted to the needs and interests of his clients. I appreciated how he would help us to take photos amidst all the crowds.

Francisco was awesome. He was a very safe driver. He knew all the ins and the outs of Pena Palace and helped us make the best use of our time there. This tour was worth every penny. We also had a nice experience in Sintra tasting the Ginja cherry liqueur. Six stars out of five.

Easily one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited! So close to Lisbon too!
Miguel was a wonderful guide and driver who knew what to see and how to get there without any hassles. He was also a local! He drove us up to the point where the walk upward was easy, and even led us through a few short cuts along the way.
The village below the palace was picture perfect, and the palace itself was beautifully eye-opening.
This is one tour I could (and probably will) take again and again. Especially if I can arrange to have Miguel as my guide.

My wife and I had a great time! So much value for the price. Our guide Diogo was on point with knowledge of the cities we visited (Cascais, Sintra etc) from the historical events, gastronomy. Peña Palace was all I expected and more and Diogo made it that much more memorable, he did not rush the group but still made sure we were still on track of our itinerary. If you want to really experience the grounds wear good walking shoes! The grounds were wonderful and worth the walk! The castle is fun and link of funky! We has a great time and our guide was great. He recommended a wonderful place god lunch too!!

Moderate exercise with steep hills. Sinatra was nice area for a pastry and some shopping. Peña Palace lines are long and crowded. Palace views were nice. Our toor guide was very nice.

The guide, I believe his name was Don (I apologize if not) was absolutely fantastic. His knowledge of Sintra and of all the history of Lisbon and Portugal was amazing. This made the tour so enjoyable in spite of the cold rain. We appreciated his care and concern for the safety of all in the group, especially my wife. And his helpfulness for the unfortunate lady that fell on the entrance road and was injured. (Note: be very careful if it is wet!). This was the best tour we have done with Viator and we would have given it a 10 out of 5 if we could.

The drive to the castle is not that long and is worth it. Guide was very knowledgeable and nice. The castle needs some painting/cleaning outside, but I am aware that’s not Viator’s responsibility. : )

My husband and I had a terrific time with tour guide Bruno and one other traveler on this five-hour, small-group trip to Sintra. We toured the inside of the Pena Palace and then drove past several other sites of interest, taking in the whole area, which would have been almost impossible to do without a car. Since we prefer to avoid the hassle of renting/driving/parking cars in foreign countries, this was definitely the way to go.
Apart from not having to worry about logistics, the real plus of the day was the value that Bruno added. Knowledgeable, relaxed, personable — he helped our little group click almost immediately and kept things humming the whole day. He was very present — a good listener — and helped us connect with the things that really interested us and with each other. I would recommend Bruno for any tour he leads.
Speaking of interests, if we had to do it over again, we might look for a version of this tour that included a look inside Monserrate, beyond an exterior viewing. But it’s hard to know — there are SO MANY sites in Sintra that it’s a little mind-boggling, and difficult to determine which ones you might want to spend more time at, until you actually see the lay of the land. All in all, we felt the amount we were able to see and learn in this particular half-day tour was pretty much on target for our energy level and attention span.

A visit to Pena Palace in Sintra is a dive into a fairytale. Our private guide Diogo provided a very good tour tailored to our specific requests. Be prepared to walk a lot and climb many stairs.
