This tour exceeded our expectations as our tour guide Anastasia was a font of knowledge for Évora and the entire Alentejo region. Évora has a distinctive history and is a must visit city when visiting Portugal. A huge bonus was the visit to the cork works as not many of these operations are open to the public. Anastasia was also very knowledgeable about the cork workflow and showed us the different steps. David who is a member of the family owned cork business welcomed us in a very appreciative manner as did his mother and father.
A highly recommended tour! Thank you Anastasia!

Easily one of the very best of our 8 or 9 tours during a two week vacation! From Lisbon, the tour is a very full day event with a substantial 1.5 hour drive in each direction. The tour was small group (4) with our guide Joao. The weather was sunshine and moderate temps in early November.
Pre-tour communications with Joao were excellent with several questions and concerns answered by Viator linked texts within minutes ... Even after working hours!
Joao was born and raised in the Lisbon area speaks four languages fluently, and was readily capable of answering questions on any Portugese or Iberian Peeninsula question! He opened some new perspectives and insights into Portugese history and Christianity in general. Further, he is well known, and apparently well-liked, by many of the proprietors at the stops along our tour -- especially at the cork factory and restaurant! He was engaging, had a clear idea of our itinerary, and was very accommodating to adjust schedules to our needs!
Evora is another beautiful medieval town with unique stories, beautiful cathedrals, aqueducts, and Roman walls that are well preserved. We found the cork factory and the broad array of cork products particularly interesting! Finally we enjoyed a terrific and traditional Portuguese Sunday lunch that was arranged by Joao!
Great tour in the Portuguese country-side and highly recommended!

Evora was nice, but we had higher expectations. The bones chapel is something different, but the highlight for us was the visit to the cork factory.
The tour guide (Anastasiya) was excellent.

Pedro did a great job of getting us to all the places we wanted to see without dealing with the large crowds on Saturday. We sawcit all and even attended mass in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity which can seat 9000 people. There weren't that many but it was still pretty full. Stopped at a small coffe house for a sandwich then off the the village where the children lived back in 1917! An enjoyable day with lots of interesting history provided by Pedro.

Our guide Joao Costa was on time to our hotel with lots of enthusiasm and did a great job of playing the weather and giving us some history of the area as we drove to the cork factory - a must do. Then to the city of Evora for a beautiful tour of the church and cathedral with lots of info along the way. Had a nice traditional lunch in town - Joao was very nice to offer loads of of info about other places we were going to visit in the upcoming days. Our friends have already booked him for their trip in Porto and Lisbon. And Viator makes it all so easy with the booking process. I always use them...Enjoy Portugal everyone...

I'm so glad we took the full day from Lisbon to visit Evora and surrounding areas! We had two weeks in Portugal and this excursion allowed us to see highlights of the Alentejo area that we otherwise wouldn't have had time for ourselves. But what made it particularly special was the guide's in depth knowledge of the area. As we drove the hour and half from Lisbon she explained sights along the way. We stopped at a cork factory (more like a barn) and saw up close how the cork material is put together ready to be shipped. It was very intriguing to see this all done by hand! It sounds corny but it was actually very educational and something I'll remember every time I pop a champagne cork! The cork store has everything imaginable for purchase. Then we headed to Evora and saw the Chapel of Bones, cathedrals, Roman ruins and colorful shops. The guide takes you to the ticket windows of the churches where you purchase your own entry tickets (inexpensive). Guides get in for free with their ID. So she was able to show us everything inside and provide the narrative. She was also very good about capturing photos of the two of us. She had a lunch booked for us but we weren't hungry for a sit-down meal so we just grabbed small bites at a local spot within the walled city and kept exploring! I'd read tour ideas about also visiting the megalithic sites or seeing Mourao (by Spain's border) along with Evora but there is so much to see and enjoy within Evora that I'm glad we didn't add on the extra driving time. If your itinerary allows, I'd recommend an overnight in Evora so you can truly experience this beautiful area of Portugal.

João was an amazing tour guide! He was so knowledgeable about the history of èvora and the cork industry. We went to the cork factory and bought some great products made there and then continued onto Èvora where we saw a couple beautiful churches, had lunch, saw the temple of Diana and the chaple of bones. João explained everything to us about these sites in such great detail. We appreciated him so much! Thank you so much for a great day!
I will be recommending this tour to all our friends and family who want to visit Portugal!

Wonderful day. Really appreciated the hotel pick up and drop off. Anastasia was a knowledgeable guide. She made it easy for us to appreciate the history of the area and ensured we were able to enjoy the sites. From the bridge, to the storks, to the cork, green wine and beyond. Our heads are spinning with the amount of information she managed to impart. Evora was a delightful town to explore. A nice break from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon.

This day trip to Evora and the Alentejo region from Lisbon with Anastasia was truly one of the highlights of my over two-week trip to Portugal. Not only is Evora beautiful and rich in history, but Anastasia made it understandable and relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed her company and where she took me, from a cork factory visit, museum, parks, churches, to food. Definitely recommend Kitzel Tours, and can't wait to go back!

Our private guide was wonderful- intersesting, well informed. The guide blended history, culture, and food- the ideal combination. My favorite thing was going to a cork factory and learning all about how cork is harvested and made into various things. The other thing was going to the top of the cathedral.

Our tour guide was João. He was friendly, fun and is very knowledgeable. A lot of history but explained in a fun and simple way. A highlight of our visit to Alantejo was a visiting a cork factory where we learned the process of how the tree bark becomes not only the wine corks but chairs, shoes and beautiful purses! We will definitely will be looking forward to more of his tours in a future vist. Highly recommended!!

This private day tour of Evora was good, we visited a Cork Factory at the beginning of the day, which was great to see the whole process of how cork products get made. We then went into the town of Evora and visited the Chapel of Bones, Cathedral, and Temple, and also had free time for lunch. The only downside is that Evora is further away from Lisbon than I'd thought, so a large chunk of the day was spent travelling. But other than that, it was great!

Joao was a fun guide - perfect English, good sense of humor, and a great story-teller. The day of our tour was extremely hot, and he did a great job of ensuring we were ok. The tour of the cork factory was surprisingly interesting - they practically make fabric out of the cork, which was beautiful. Evora itself was nice enough - not the most interesting place we visited in Portugal, but nice, and not crowded which was refreshing :-) The restaurant we went for lunch was outstanding!
