Make your way to either Navy Pier or Michigan Avenue (depending on option chosen) for your cruise departure. Board your riverboat and find a comfortable seat; a restroom is available on the boat.
Listen as your guide, an architecture expert, gives you an introduction to the city's landmarks. Along the scenic route, see buildings by world-famous architects including Mies van der Rohe, Helmut Jahn, and beyond. A boat on the river is the best vantage point to admire the distinct city skyline.
Pass by dozens of classic Chicago buildings, including the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower), the Wrigley Building, and more. Learn about how the invention of balloon-frame construction revolutionized how homes were built, and hear the dramatic story of Chicago's rise from the Great Fire of 1871. Both of these milestones led Chicago to become one of the cradles of modern American architecture.

Chicago at night 10/10 beautiful city! Sam was an amazing tour guide, it helps that he is tripled degreed in history but also loves the city of Chicago! Although I already love the city this tour gave it an extra 🫶🏽

Awesome experience. We go on this tour every time we’re in Chicago. This was the first night tour and it was spectacular

Amazing experience. Really really enjoyed it. Extremely motivated being from a smaller town. The lady narrating did an amazing job and kept me very engaged with what she was saying. Overall 10/10 experience
Lynette_T, Jul 2026
It was a very informative beautiful experience. I booked the 830pm tour and I was able to see The Chi come alive under the skies.
Larry_L, Jul 2026
Great story telling. No flash cameras or filming with a camera stick allowed. Also, the narrator is the star. Therefore, this isn't a tour for loud convos and side bars.

Great experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Only thing, the sky was smokey from the Canada wild fires.

Difficult on a hot day due to 3 rows of shade (in sun for 90 minutes.) Tour guide knew her stuff! Sadie. Review of architecture and what designers had done in Chicago elsewhere. Enjoyed it so much!

Get to the loading location early to find exactly where to board the boat. Bring camera and money, as snacks & beverages are available on the boat. Bring some cash to tip the docent who narrates the tour. Dress for the weather; could be cooler on the boat. The evening cruise is especially nice.

It’s a very nice river, boat, cruise all the wild learning about the buildings and the architecture and the architects of Chicago. Throwing a little history and it makes for a great event. The staff are very polite and friendly and knowledgeable.

Eric was the BEST guide, had so much fun and learned a lot!!
I plan to do the tour again with my wife sometime.
Linnis_A, Jul 2026
Eric did a wonderful job. He was very nice and knowledgeable. Weather was great and the scenery spectacular.
Howard_L, Jul 2026
It was too hot. Passengers kept standing up with their family for photos and they blocked my view of the buildings-

This was a spectacular time! I highly recommend the sunset cruise. It was amazing to see the city right at sunset and at night! Our guide was amazing. So knowledgeable and you were able to hear him wherever you sat. By far the best part of our trip!
Sherry_M, Jul 2026
Full sun and small shaded area if that’s is a concern on a very hot day. Was not crowded on a monday. very enjoyable.
Raquel_W, Jul 2026
Started on time and great entertaining tour guide. Weather was nice. It has a downstairs as well although the view is not as best at the bottom
Sarah_B, Jul 2026
Best and funniest person we have had yet!! We’ve been in a few and this was by far the best one yet!
Marissa_C, Jul 2026
Had a great time on the architecture tour! I grew up in the Chicago area and still learned so much. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable and I would go again.
ANDREW_M, Jul 2026
Boat tour at dusk with mild weather and light breezes, led by a former architecture student with dense narration contextualizing the history and style of all major buildings of significance along the water. Sunset timing rewarded us with dazzling reflections in many glass structures.
Kelli_R, Jul 2026
We had a wonderful time with our kids on the River architecture cruise. Despite having lived in the Midwest for 15 years, we had never done it. The kids both thought it was interesting (as did we!) and we got lucky with a gorgeous day. Our “cruise director” was Eric and he was great - informative and funny and left some time for us to just admire the buildings.
Enriquetta_C, Jul 2026
Always fantastic, usually tastefully comedic docents share historical and detailed facts, sometimes tales, about the city of Chicago and it's magnificent architecture.
Ashley_F, Jul 2026
Great customer service, friendly, and helpful! Really enjoyed the ride as well as the information on an amazing city! We went to the front location and they helped get us on the next boat!
Diana_W, Jul 2026
Worth the time spent learning about chicago. Watch the price as we were charged 49$ each even though we signed up for the hour tour that was to be 39$ each

The Chicago Architecture River
Cruise is a must do activity if you are visiting Chicago. My son and I went on the 9:15 pm cruise which was stunning at night!
Sharika_J, Jul 2026
We had an amazing experience. Erick was the best tour guide ever. He was knowledgeable as well as entertaining. I loved every bit of it.
Cindy_G, Jul 2026
The boat and the restrooms are clean and well kept. The tour guide explains the architecture sites in a simple clear way n not boring. The only thing is that we cannot hear much when we were seated on the shaded area. Maybe need more speakers
Breanna_B, Jul 2026
Fun guided tour on the canal. You don't enter open water on lake Michigan so it's a call relaxing ride.
Royesha_W, Jul 2026
There is some walking to get to the boat. So wearing comfortable shoes would be ideal. We had the best experience from our seat selection to great staff. And had 4 bathrooms on board. But wish the bathroom smelled better.
Linda_H, Jul 2026
Excellent experience, knowledgeable guide, on time departure and arrival. Highly recommend. Be forewarned … this tour begins and ends at Navy Pier. The traffic/congestion was horrible getting to and from this location. Plan accordingly.
Richard_E, Jul 2026
Staff was very helpful, Professional and extremely knowledgeable . The entire tour was magnificent. So many awesome sights. The Chicago skyline is unmatched. Absolutely Breathtaking. The entire tour was rewarding and relaxing. Definitely am gonna do it AGAIN 😊

This experience was really fun and informative. I went with 2 family members and a 10 year old. We all loved being on a boat in the Chicago river getting the ultimate experience. We had an awesome tour guide that gave us so many cool facts about Chicago and its architecture! They do have 2 restrooms on the boat and a bar with alcoholic beverages and other snacks and drinks. I give this boat tour a 5/5 stars because of how easy it was to purchase the tickets and then for the experience itself. I recommend it to anyone.
