Make your way to either Navy Pier or Michigan Avenue (depending on option chosen) for your cruise departure. Board your riverboat and find a comfortable seat; a restroom is available on the boat.
Listen as your guide, an architecture expert, gives you an introduction to the city's landmarks. Along the scenic route, see buildings by world-famous architects including Mies van der Rohe, Helmut Jahn, and beyond. A boat on the river is the best vantage point to admire the distinct city skyline.
Pass by dozens of classic Chicago buildings, including the John Hancock Center, the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower), the Wrigley Building, and more. Learn about how the invention of balloon-frame construction revolutionized how homes were built, and hear the dramatic story of Chicago's rise from the Great Fire of 1871. Both of these milestones led Chicago to become one of the cradles of modern American architecture.

Great crew too.

We loved the architecture boat tour because we were able to learn about Chicago’s architecture, the history of the city, and also enjoy the great views! Our tour guide Sam S did a great job- he was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable throughout. We also appreciated his Chicago recs at the end of the tour. I highly recommend booking this tour!

The meeting place is so inaccurate. It needs more instruction as to where people should go. I wonder how many people have missed tye boat tour because of the poor instructions.

We loved the architectural river cruise! It was the perfect length, and in beautiful weather! Great way to get your bearings of the city. The guide was an architectural grad student; she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and informed as she talked about the creative process of the architects and some of the building challenges created by the river itself. Later when we walking in the city we had our orientation from the earlier river cruise! Highly recommend.

A nice informal tour. The guide was very informative on the designs and history of buildings. You get very scenic views however this is a talkative information tour not a vibes music and sightsee tour.

Chicago traffic meant I missed my slot but the team helpfully let us push it forward and I’m so glad we did because it’s definitely a must-see! Our guide Liam was fantastic, like a comedy show and tour in one. Will be recommending to everyone that visits.
Anam_A, May 2026
Our tour guide, Liam, was really funny and knowledgeable about all the different types of buildings/architecture surrounding the river. Beautiful views and such an awesome way to see the city. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting Chicago or even if you are a resident here.

Cecilia_M, May 2026
We had a beautiful time. The tour guy was knowledgeable and humorous, so that added to the enjoyment of the trip. Only thing I’d recommend is take a light jacket/throw blanket if you’re going on the evening tour. Highly recommend!
Andrew_S, May 2026

Traveling with a senior parent who doesn't move well. They were very accommodating and willing to help. Would do it again.
Tracey_G, May 2026
It was neat to hear about the different buildings and the eras they were built in. Most of the buildings on the tour have a story. The bathrooms on the boat were nicer than expected!

Don was an outstanding docent on the Chicago Architecture Cruise. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and had a great way of bringing the city’s history and architecture to life. His enthusiasm made the tour both entertaining and informative. We left with a much deeper appreciation for Chicago thanks to his Insights and storytelling
