This tour came highly recommended by friends and I was told it was a must do Chicago experience. I agree, it is well worth the time and expense. The team was highly professional and everything was well run. Our docent, Barry, was fun and highly knowledgeable. The Chicago architecture is stunning and varied, and seeing it from the river gives such a unique perspective.

Worth it!!!

The trip included darts, restaurants, the L, a Cubs game and the architectural boat tour. Hands down, the boat tour was the best part of the trip! So interesting. So many stories. Didn’t feel like 90 minutes at all. So interesting it went way too fast! John, our tour guide was absolutely tops!!!’

Great experience!

Perfect weather in June and a great tour guide made this a great experience for our family. This is a must do if you’re visiting Chicago!

Best Chicago activity - a must!

MARKUS_R, Jun 2026
Highly recommend this tour. Claire was an exceptionally knowledgeable tour guide explaining the engineering and styles of every building along the way. She knew all the architects who designed them, and explained how the load was carried, and for the modern buildings, where the stabilizers were, how they worked, where the train tracks were hidden and vented, etc etc. This was the best activity in Chicago by far.

Great experience and amazing tour guide!

Susan_G, Jun 2026
Ronnie Jo was the tour guide and she was fabulous! She was not only knowledge but passionate and enthusiastic about the architecture. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend. Shout out to the crew, Dennis and Joe.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Incredible Journey Through Chicago’s Architectural History

Dawn_S, Jun 2026
The First Lady Chicago Architecture Cruise was one of the highlights of our visit to Chicago! The tour was exceptionally educational, engaging, and beautifully presented. Our guide brought the city’s rich architectural history to life with fascinating stories, historical insights, and details about the iconic buildings that line the Chicago River. Even as someone who has visited Chicago before, I learned so much about the city’s development, architectural innovations, and the visionaries who shaped its skyline. The pace of the tour was perfect, allowing plenty of time to admire the stunning buildings while absorbing the information being shared. The boat was comfortable, the views were spectacular, and the entire experience was well organized from start to finish. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime Chicago enthusiast, this cruise offers a unique perspective on one of America’s most architecturally significant cities. I highly recommend the First Lady Chicago Architecture Cruise to anyone looking for an informative, enjoyable, and memorable experience. It is far more than a boat ride-it’s a fascinating journey through the history, culture, and beauty of Chicago.

Excellent and entertaining tour from non-profit organization that runs rain or shine. Limited indoor seating so dress appropriately: hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, jacket/coat, umbrella.

Great tour

Jennifer_C, May 2026
Would definitely recommend this tour. The guide was engaged and had a lot of knowledge about the city & its architecture. The only bummer about our trip is that it started pouring down rain & there was lightening on the last 20 minutes, so everyone was directed to go downstairs. Even though the guide was still speaking, it was impossible to hear him over all of the people/children.

Great option among so many choices for architecture river cruises

The Best Architecture Tour in the City - Thanks to Wayne!

Ross_L, May 2026
If you are looking for a tour that goes beyond surface-level facts, this is it. Our guide, Wayne, was exceptionally knowledgeable, skilful, and personable. During the tour, Wayne discussed the architecture of the buildings in fascinating detail. Rather than just giving us dates, he broke down the historical and cultural context of why buildings in Chicago have been constructed the way they were, within the context of the city's unique rebirth. He explained the philosophy behind some of the architecture, explaining the deeper reason there is a need to understand design and how it shapes human behavior and city life. Wayne’s expertise and warm personality made this a highlight of our trip. Highly recommended!

Great way to see Chicago
