A Full Day of Excellent WWII Sights

The Beachhead Museum in Anzio was a wonderful hidden gem, run by Patrizio Colantuono and created by donations from veterans who served in the battle(s) for Anzio and Nettuno. It was a fantastic spot and without our guide (Giovanni) we never would have found it so we are extremely thankful for his great work and help in translating as well!

I visited Anzio as my father participated in the battle includiing entering Rome in June. Visiting the museum was a highlight. I was unaware of its existence. Speaking with Francesco, our guide, and Patricio the President of the museum, whom so passionately want to preserve the story moved me.

Our guide was very sweet. I have no complaints about him or our driver. The tour was not what I expected. I would also not recommend taking anyone to a fish restaurant for a tour luncheon.

As for the fish restaurant in Anzio, a seaside town with a long-standing fishing tradition, it was merely one of several lunch options suggested by the guide — including simple takeaway pizza, sandwiches, and non-seafood restaurants. Ultimately, the group accepted the seafood option voluntarily, and it was not a mandatory part of the itinerary. This tour was a Birthday gift to my husband who loves the history of WW2. Francisco was a wonderful guide, so full of knowledge of the war and wonderful personality. We had a wonderful full day and lovely lunch in Anzio. Our driver Paul was great as well. Sandy
