Itinerary

Day 1: Rome Sightseeing and the Vatican

Start your day with pickup from your Rome hotel, and travel into the center with your private driver. Your morning kicks off with a sightseeing tour that takes in a mix of Rome’s classic sights along with some that the usual tourist itineraries miss. Visit Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and the Spanish Steps alongside Santa Maria della Pace. See the Ponte Sant’Angelo, lined with angel sculptures by Bernini, and admire the views of Castel Sant’Angelo aka the Emperor Hadrian’s mausoleum.

After a break for lunch, head to the Vatican with your skip-the-line ticket. Bypass the main ticket line to step inside the vast Vatican Museum complex, seeing highlights such as Raphael’s Rooms, the Gallery of the Maps, the Tapestry Gallery, and the Sistine Chapel with its lauded Michelangelo frescoes. Your day tour ends with a walk around St. Peter’s Basilica to see La Pietà, Bernini’s bronze baldachin, and the papal tombs.

Day 2: Appian Way, Catacombs, Colosseum, and the Roman Forum

After another morning pickup, travel with your guide to the Ancient Appian Way to explore the catacombs that lie beneath the old Roman road. Used as cemeteries for Rome’s persecuted early Christians, the catacombs are fascinating to explore, stretching some 93 miles (150km) in underground corridors.

From the Appian way, travel into the heart of ancient Rome for some free time for lunch and a skip-the-line tour of the Colosseum. Bypass the general ticket line, then explore the ancient amphitheater that was used for gladiatorial games under the rule of the bloodthirsty Roman emperors. Learn about the dangerous animal battles and the gladiator’s skills as you explore, then head outside to stroll around Palatine Hill. Finish with a visit to the Roman Forum, and discover the Temple of Vestal Virgins and triumphal arches among other monumental Roman ruins.

Incredible Rome

This was our favorite tour of our vacation. Our guide, Richard, made our time so enjoyable. A couple of us weren't able to attend part of the tour. Richard was able to work with his people to get us lined up to finish the tour before our departure. We were so thankful for their quick response to our request.

Only good thing about this tour was the driver Marco. The rest is a total scam. Tour guides are not knowledgeable. Skip the line was just a gimmic. Don't do it

Great side tours and guides

Catacombs, Vatican city, coliseum, Rome forum..all of these special tours were great and Richard and Angela were fantastic. Our driver was terrible..gave us bad directions to meet our guides. He showed up first day and sat in car and talked on phone for 30 minutes..we didn't even know he was our driver until I interrupted his phone call. Second day he made us jaywalking across very busy street to get in car. I know he was advertised as driver and not a guide but what is purpose of a two hour driving tour when he doesn't give us information. Much cheaper and just as good if we bought the three private tours on our own and got a taxi or Uber

The tour schedule was changed and tour started 1.5 hours later that itinerary showed. The driver barely spoke English, so the driven tours were largely a waste. Thankfully, the private guide for both Vatican Museum and Colosseum / Forum was very good. Also the no line access was a great benefit. Think you can pull this tour better and more economically independently

(Down below you can see your booking info and time) About the 3 hours driven sightseeing tour with our driver, it is well specified on the description and the confirmation of the tour that it is not a guided tour but a private driving tour with a deluxe vehicle (Minivan Mercedes Viano 2020). The driver gives only the main information of the sights included in the tour (It is also specified in the exclusions of the booking ). Again, we are very sorry you were not satisfied with our tour and we hope this explanation clarifies the issue. I would have rated this tour a 4 if it weren't for the fact that the first part of our tour was horrible. We were to receive our final details a few days before and never did. They changed our pick up time by 1 1/2 hours and we found out the morning of while we were waiting for them to show up. Our driver was supposed to be English speaking, and spoke no English at all. They said he was just the "driver". He took us around the city for 3 hours and we had no idea what we were seeing, due to the language barrier. I requested a 25 % refund because of this, and Viator refused because he was just supposed to be the driver........ We are very disappointed after spending so much money for this tour. I would advise you to look elsewhere for a private tour.

A wonderful two days

This tour was great from start to finish! Our driver picked us up right in front of our Airbnb each morning and took us through the city while giving us history and insight to all of the major attractions of Rome. When we met with our first guide Zenda to tour the colusseum and Roman forum she was friendly and accommodating. She gave us a great tour through the colusseum and Roman forum and was very considerate of the needs of my elderly parents. The next day Puala gave us a terrific tour through the Vatican museum and St Peters Basilica. Her knowledge of all the aspects of the museum was incredible. This was a great tour package overall. My elderly parents loved it and each night when the driver would drop us off at our flat we had nothing but wonderful things to say about each day. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great tour!

Outstanding time. We were treated like vip’s from pick up at our hotel in air conditioned vehicles to seeing every major attraction in the city. The local guides not only knew the details about the attraction but the old world stories and local folk lore. Worth every cent and the only way to go to see it all.

Our tour guide Paula of the Vatican and the Colosseum was wonderful. She was personable and so informative and knowledgeable. We all enjoyed her tours very much. Regarding the overall experience of this booking, it was quite expensive and not what we were anticipating when we booked a private tour. We didn’t receive the itinerary until two days proper, which did not allow for modifications in the schedule. We assumed a private two day tour with a driver meant that we would be contacted well in advance to determine the best itinerary for our individual needs and interests. This was not the case.

The 2 day tour of Rome was very comprehensive and included all of the things that we wanted to see. We had a driver pick us up at our AirBnB. He did not speak extensive English and was not able to converse easily or let us know about things he took us to. He knew the city very thoroughly and was very good getting us around, however the language barrier was an impediment to a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The driver pulled up to the Pantheon and said "Very nice church, you go in. I wait here." There were many opportunities to explain to us where we were being taken and what we were to see, but the language issue precluded that from happening. On the other hand, our guide, Paola Serata, who met us each afternoon and took us through the Vatican and the Coliseum, was absolutely excellent. She had tremendous subject matter expertise and provided extensive information about our visit. She pointed out details and provided information we would never have noticed if we had been on our own.

Our two day private tour let us...

Our two day private tour let us experience the highlights of Rome without any long lines. We climbed the Spanish steps, gazed at the Trevi Fountain, explored the catacombs, stared into the domes and reliquaries of numerous basilicas and cathedrals including St Peters of course, viewed the wonders of the Vatican museums, gawked at the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and were awed by the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Our guides were knowledgeable and full of stories and personality. Frequently our driver would pull over, say climb those stairs for a surprise, and we'd dutifully get out, climb the stairs, and be in wonder at yet another amazing site. Then we'd trot back down and he'd be waiting, ready to maneuver through the crazy traffic to the next awe-inspiring wonder. Our whole family highly recommends this tour.

Our guide, Paola, was stellar! She’s a PhD in Christian Archaeology, speaks 5 languages, and was so wonderful. Loved every minute! Florido, our Driver, also amazing and even sang to us! So worth the money to do this. Long days packed with interesting info you’d never get otherwise!
