Our tour experience of the Vatican museum and was great! Alex gave us a very informative tour infused with his sense of humor. He made sure that everyone understood the directions and procedures and patiently answered our questions. This was our second tour of the museum and we learned even more than the first one. Visiting the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with this skip-the-line tour was one of the best decisions i made during our trip to Rome. The experience was smooth from start to finish, and honestly, it’s completely worth it for the fast entry alone. Watching hundreds of people waiting outside in the long queue while i walked straight in felt like such a relief—i saved so much valuable time that i was able to use exploring instead of standing around.The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and explained the history and details in a way that was easy to follow and very engaging. I especially appreciated the use of headsets, which made it possible to hear every word clearly even in the busy museum halls. Highly recommended!!

Too much pre-tour lecture

Too much pre-tour lecture and very little actual tour time in the Vatican. Spent almost 45 minutes in front of the pictures of the Sistine Chapel in the courtyard, but were rushed through the building exhibits like cattle.

Bad business practices

Tour operator tried to reschedule evening prior to the 8:00 AM tour. This would conflict with other plans that we had made. When we informed them of this they told us it was too late to cancel, so take it or get charged.

A bit rushed

The guide was supposed to be an English guide but it was very difficult to understand him. He was nice but he rushed us around and we didn’t have enough time to really see much of the Vatican museum. There were places we wanted to go that we couldn’t stay long enough.

you should book a private tour 99% travellers think 2 hours is enough for the museum in case you want to see everything you probably need a month and a private guide

Too Crowded, Wrong Galleries, Not Worth It

The guide was good, but all we saw were sculptures and the Sistine Chapel. No other paintings. It was unbelievably crowded as the photos show. Our guide had to shout to be heard over our ear phones. Having been there before and knowing there are many other galleries with beautiful paintings, I could not understand why we were only shown sculptures, not paintings. The overcrowding was ridiculous and in the Sistine Chapel we were forced to look through the screen at the Last Judgment. I'd have preferred to keep my memories of past visits and it wasn't worth almost $150.

its not only you who want to see or can see the vatican first of all and also we never invited you to come in italy in a busy season so crowd is not an abnormal thing and the vatican museum itself has a tons of sculptures so the guide must go on base of that or you also want her to paint new painting to show you ? not only you every single visitor see the last judgment outside of chapel with a copy or screen because inside the chapel is not possible to explain as you can't talk and its a small place too so they explain that painting outside first and please next time go with the line so you can also pay a lot less than you have paid

Skipping the line and avoiding the wait as well as seeing the beauty of the Vatican museum art, sistene chapel and St Peters were perfect. Our tour guide was informative and personable. My only complaint is the audio was difficult to hear with the headsets provided. I missed a lot of information for that reason. I suggest looking into the type of headsets they use at the Uffizi in Florence. Those worked great!

Eric was our tour guide and he was very prompt meeting us at the agreed location near the Vatican. He explained very well everything that we needed to know. He gave us a receiver with the earbud so that we could hear him clearly as he taught us about the Vatican and the various pieces of artwork. This is our second time using Viator and would most definitely use them again.

Our guide was fabulous -very knowledgable and engaging and the exhibits in the Vatican museum excellent and moved through with enough time to enjoy and appreciate the richness and artistry. Entering and spending time in St Peters' Basilica at conclusion was excellent. Sadly the briefest of time in the Sistine Chapel was not enjoyable. The crowd was impossible - stacked sardine style and we were herded around the edge of the chapel by the officials so quickly there was no time to even pause and appreciate anything. was basically a waste of time

if you came in a high season when 30 thousands people visiting this small 150 square meter chapel what do you really expect ? and thats not our fault to get a 3 star review from you we eventually did our job and did well as you saying too if you have problem with crowd you should choose your holiday in January to march in winter not in summer very disappointed to see your 3 star to us

The tour was excellent! The guide was very knowledgeable and polite. She gave lots of interesting information. BUT there is a lot of construction going on right now I would not go honestly if I knew. AND there is NO "skip the line" if you want to go up to the roof, she just dropped us there and we spent 1h in the line which got us really mad! So, we spend 2h for a tour + 2 h for the roof and St.Pete Cathedral after the tour, 4 hours total - kinda insane! Please DO "skip the line" for the roof as well! Thank you!

Lackluster Vatican Tour Experience

The tour was ok but not worth the price. It started late and the Vatican lines and pace were slow. The Museum aspect of the tour should be separated, since it was long and something you could go in depth with (we just kind of ran through it based on time and even them, with the crowds, hard to really hear anything) from the Sistine Chapel and St Peters. The tour was also advertised as a tour of St Peters but our tour guide told us the tour was over after the Sistine Chapel (we were at the 3 hour mark) and to our surprise, you don’t need tickets to enter St Peters. Based on that, there was an element of false advertising for the tour and we did not receive a tour of St Peters. Overall, you could have went to Vatican City and seen St Peters and skipped the rest and saved the tour costs. It is a marvel to see Vatican City but there are probably cheaper and better options .

Hello, Our tour of the Vatican was good; however, the tour was changed on the day of arrival. We did not get the 'backdoor' to St. Peter's Basilica as we had expected. The tour operator in Rome said we would receive a 20% discount on our tour due to this change but we haven't received that neither. The guide we had to tour the Vatican museum was good but we really wanted to see the Basilica as well.

Very knowledgeable guide. Left tour office at 9am and finished outside St Peter’s at 11:30. It was busy and hot (Saturday in June) but queues moved fast to get in and guide stopped in shady parts to give information. Museum is huge and Sistine Chapel awe-inspiring. Really recommend this tour!

Terrible experience- terrible guide- terrible communication

Just awful- we had the worst guide ever- he had zero personality except irritating- the tour was advertised in English but he had a very heavy accent so pairing his accent with cheap and static-filled headsets made us understand about every 9 th word. This tour was e659 for 4 people and we so regret wasting our time with him. The Vatican is so important and should have been such a highlight but we spent 3 hours confused and unhappy. He didn’t stay with the group and walked way ahead most of the time but then would constantly say to our group “you need to stay together”. We were all doing lot best. He shared zero interesting facts and he could not hear us when we answered him. He was a cocky, cranky old man who has no business being the leader of a group. He was obsessed with his “love” of Japanese culture and was a little racist to everyone else. They don’t tell you this ahead of time but you have to give this guy e10 per person WHILE OM THE TOUR in case you don’t turn in your crappy headset at tour’s end. One lady had only e5 in cash so he was obsessed with keeping up with her at all times. The best part was getting away from him and being in St Peter’s Basilica. It was wonderful on our own. His communication was just awful. We never knew what was happening. We were pushed through the Sistine Chapel so roughly that we actually had to ask if we were actually in the Chapel. It was not clear. Even the tour office was confused and the communication was bad. We write this to warn other- you have so many options- DO NOT USE THIS one!

can you clarify what you told about group size ? being a lier you lost your right to be respected we promise maximum 18 people group which is impossible to be changed to more than that it can be less than that as vatican have rules a group can be max 20. in our tour description is written our group size will be 18 pax your were in a group of 17 which may effected you with less person we are never rude unless we talk to a lier like you how a person can claim maximum 6 pax group by paying this low for a 18 pax group? 6 pax group that cost you 200 per person which can cause you heart attack as you were screaming in office you paid a lot of money remember not only you everyone pay this for a 18 pax group and read well before buy something don't lie after

The tour was postponed an hour and the Vatican was heaving due to it being Easter. The guide showed us around the highly popular areas, explained the history of the Papacy, and showed us some less frequented areas with some amazing artefacts. It seemed a little disorganised queueing multiple times and the business of the Vatican City added to that feeling. The Sistine Chapel was gorgeous and ample time was allowed for viewing. St Peter's is unguided but the tour line was MUCH faster than the general entry which was a bonus

Very knowledgeable guide who was easy to work with and adjusted the tour to fit our specific needs (we had a tight schedule and wanted to shorten certain parts). The tour company itself was very responsive and I give them the highest grade for communicating with me at late hours because of my specific needs. For reference/comparison, I did have a large group of almost 30 people, which made it more complicated on one hand, but also warranted extra care because we had paid a lot of money. I do want to make two constructive criticisms to the tour guide for future refrerence, for their sake. Firstly, it was a hot day and we happened to take a stop at a bench with no shade, versus being in the shade of the buildings, without a place to sit. This is one of those debatable issues: what's more important, a bench or shade? You may want to ask the group which they prefer. Secondly, we were a very conservative group and I suspect most of the people visiting the Vatican and Sistine Chapel will be conservative. There were some parts of the tour which contained potentially inappropriate and offensive subject matter. This is perfectly in keeping with the actual historical items covered in the tour, including the sordid details about the lives of Roman emperors. Nonetheless, I recommend asking the group whether they would be OK with such material in advance. If not, I am sure it is easy enough to talk about something else, as there is so much to cover in very little time. Overall, highly recommended and I am giving this tour the maximum number of stars.

Touring the Vatican

We have visited the Vatican before, on our own, but wanted to know more about what we were seeing. Silvio was a knowledgeable guide and though this is not an exceptionally in depth tour we learned a lot about the history of the Vatican. There was a communication problem before our tour started which thankfully worked out in our favor. We were notified on the Viator booking page that our tour was delayed 45 minutes. I am disappointed that message didn’t come by text as we were running late and it could have saved us a lot of stress. My only advice when booking with Viator is that if you get a good guide the experience is worth the extra expense, but you just never know if you’ll end up with quality guide. We booked 3 tours, 2 of the 3 were very good but sadly one was a disappointment.
