A Culinary and Cultural Adventure!

Regina_F, Sep 2025
Highly recommend! Foodies, history buffs, and anyone looking for an authentic and fun way to explore Portland beyond the usual tourist spots. It's a great activity to do early in your trip to get your bearings and discover some fantastic local flavors. We discovered local eateries that I never would have found on my own. The tour was well-paced, allowing us time to enjoy the food and the atmosphere without feeling rushed. The amount of walking was comfortable and the amount of food we ate exceeded my expectations! Ray was our tour guide, and he was a fantastic storyteller, sharing rich histories of the neighborhood and connecting the food to the area's diverse cultural influences. His passion for the food and the history of Portland, Maine was infectious. If there is one activity to book while visiting, its this!

Informative and delicious.

Lots of great food, history and lobster facts

karen_p, Aug 2025
Marcia was the best guide ever. While the tour was pricey by the end I felt like it was a good value. We had craft beers at two locations, fish taco, choice of chowders, full sized lobster roll, hand dipped chocolates and finished off with ice cream. Marcia provided lots of history of the area and the process of trapping lobster. We were a small group of 4 so it made the tour very intimate. Loved it!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Sounds like Marcia delivered the full Maine experience: history, lobster lore, and a progressive feast that could make a food critic weep with joy. By the end, you basically had your own private VIP lobster-and-beer club! We’re so glad you felt it was worth every delicious bite (and sip). Thanks for letting us spoil you!

A MUST if you are in Portland, ME!

Tour the best dishes in Portland!

Richard_S, Oct 2024
AJ was a delightful tour guide, and we were treated to delicious local treats — Allagash special beer to kick off the morning, haddock tacos (who knew? How yummy!), the area’s best chowder, as well as a great suggestion from AJ — try the local coffee flavored brandy! Which was great too, especially added to half cream on ice. Visiting the Harbor fish market showed us what all the freshest fish and seafood looked like before it ever gets onto your plate, and AJ shared a lot about the harvesting and life cycle of those lobsters in the tank.

Great tour!

Lillian_S, Oct 2024
EXCELLENT! Our guide AJ was so knowledgeable and friendly. She taught us so much! We learned many things about lobsters, scallops, and so many other fish along with a fisherman‘s daily tasks. We also ate many very delicious items. Highly recommend!

Must Do Tour in Portland

Joseph_Q, Sep 2024
Great tour. Exceeded expectations. Tour guide AJ was fabulous with a lovely personality & made everyone feel included. Both seafood & Portland historical knowledge was exceptional. Locations visited were top notch.

Expert Guide!!

Jeff_F, Sep 2024
AJ has wonderful energy and keeps the conversation moving. Our stops varied from fish market (with a brief class in lobster and steamers), a chowder stop, and of course a lobster role… she educated and had us stopping along the way to interact with vendors. My favorite portion was her oyster shucking skills while we all sampled a recent catch. We would recommend this tour specifically at the beginning of a trip since she does have good dinner reservations to offer as well!

A MUST DO TOUR!!!

Cindy_M, Sep 2024

The tour was informative and your guide was nice. The lobster roll was nothing special and disappointing. The other food was really good though. Would have expected more from the lobster roll. The tour went long as well.

Food Production, Food History, Eat the Food in a nutshell

Blake_S, May 2024
This one was more food focused than some other food tours we did. He centered on the nature of the area and locally caught seafood and the different local businesses and restaurants involved as well as the history of the area. The tastings were good and he avoided the kickback/favoritism that sometimes can happen in these sorts of tours.

Response from Host, May 2024

Thank you for your review, Blake. We pay retail pricing at all of our restaurant partners - no kickbacks or favoritism here! We are glad you enjoyed the tour.

It was AWESOME!!
