Itinerary

Your trip begins early in downtown Portland, where you'll embark via coach for the drive through Columbia River Gorge. Enjoy spectacular views as the sun crests the Cascade Mountains and lights up the Gorge’s protected landscape.

As your coach travels along the river, you'll admire the natural and cultural sights, from rare plants and wildlife to geological wonders and ancient Indian rock art. Your expert guide will narrate the journey, providing historical context to the present-day surroundings.

Climb high above the valley to the Vista House at Crown Point for unparalleled views that have been enjoyed by travelers to this site since 1916. Take plenty of photos from this panoramic viewpoint before heading back down into the National Scenic Area, where you'll stop at Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, and the famous Multnomah Falls. Known as the second-tallest in the US, Multnomah Falls never dries up, even in the hot summer months. So a great picture can always be taken from Benson Bridge!

Next, your trip continues to Bonneville Dam, a masterpiece of modern engineering that provided hydropower to the Gorge since the 1930s. During your stop here, learn about the challenging construction process and admire the grandeur and juxtaposition of industry combined with nature.

Your trip back to Portland tracks the trail of the famous explorers Lewis and Clark, touching on key points from their expedition over 200 years ago such as Beacon Rock, Rooster Rock, and Cape Horn.

Your tour ends back in Portland by early afternoon.

Fun in the sun

Great way to get out and see just how beautiful Oregon is! Very convenient and affordable. We had a blast!

Response from Host, Jul 2023

Thank you for the great review! We hope you will choose to ride with us again.

Definitely do NOT recommend! Waste of money.

MKendra_M, Jul 2023
This was an extremely disappointing event. Issues included: 1. We were the only two people on the trip, so we did not get the full trip experience that we were looking forward to. 2. The bus windows are so darkly tinted you can't see the views. All you see is the reflection of people sitting across the aisle. Forget taking photos through the window. 3. The recorded narration was inaudible and garbled. We were especially hoping to hear about Lewis and Clark's journey. 4. Driver kept removing headset, spoke very rapidly, and was difficult to hear when trying to narrate in place of the recorded narration, as well as navigate traffic and twisty roads. Very unfair to driver who did the best she could. 5. Vile odors from outdoor privies on the road to Vista House permeated the bus and were unavoidable per the driver. Btw, Vista House was not open when we finally arrived, which we were only told after we were in the parking lot. 6. I have a painful bump on my head from hitting it really hard on a nearly invisible fixture (tan color, blended in with window tint) hanging over the front window seat. 7. This trip is for able bodied travelers only. Considerable walking required.

Response from Host, Aug 2023

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your trip with us. We choose to operate this tour with only you on it because we did not want to cancel your booking. You got the full tour and the full experience even though two of you. We did not shorten the tour or otherwise alter it due to the low ridership. In retrospect not cancelling your tour was a bad decision given your low rating and post tour responses. The coach you rode is a current production coach with tinted windows as all coaches have. The tint is similar to the tint in a car. Having ordered many coaches in my day, I have not ever even considered ordering one with clear glass. Our trolley have clear glass but the windows open. Opening windows on a coach going 60+ mph is not advisable. We have checked the PA system and the narration system and can find nothing wrong with them. Guests on the day before and the day after on the same coach had no complaints. Vista House is manned by volunteers. It is open only on weekends. We have no control over the servicing of the porta pottys at Vista House and to expect us to and rate us accordingly is unfair. The coach you rode in was equipped with a video system when it was built. The location of the screens was decided upon by the manufacturer of the coach. We are sorry you bumped your head, but the screen has always been there.

The tour guide was amazing along with all the views! The water fall is spectacular and not far too hike from parking.

A great tour with David who took the time to take us different places and gave us history and information of Portland. This a must to be done to experience Portland.

Lovely

Waterfalls and river gorge! Guide very helpful. Your website was too confusing about downloading a ticket yet having to go to grey line e for real ticket. Online business should be totally online especially for tourists not having much time. It took too long to get to half day trip. It’s very popular.

Great experience!

Anita_D, Jun 2021
Tour bus on time. Tour guide ,Brian, very knowledgeable and friendly. Gray Line’s company staff promptly returned my phone call to clarify some questions. At a time when customer service is declining, they were excellent. I would recommend this tour !

Response from Host, Jul 2021

Thank you for the five star review and your comments regarding Brian. He and the staff work hard to provide the an excellent tour and service.

Wonderful Trip!!!

Nyana_B, Oct 2018
It was a nice relaxing tour. Our guide "Mae" was very informative, very friendly. From her experience, she knew what area to go to 1st & last because of weather. Beautiful scenery all the way!!! Gorgeous!!!

Take this one

Kay_S, Sep 2018
We got all we paid for and more on this tour. Wonderful sites. Lots of waterfalls. The Columbia River runs beside the highway much of the way. The view from Vista House is just spectacular!

Few attractions, poor communication and boring commentary.

Kelly W, Aug 2018
We did the half day Columbia River and Multnomah Falls tour. Based on the description I was under the impression we would visit additional falls too but we only saw Multnomah Falls. Other falls may have been closed (not sure) but this was not communicated during booking or during the tour. I wouldn’t have booked had I known. There was a lot of smoke in the air which made it hard to view the gorge. Again, not the company’s fault but they didn’t give us a heads up either. The hatchery and dam were a little interesting but we were there too long. And the gorge viewing area could have been really cool but the smoke was an issue. I felt like they were more interested in getting money for the trip than informing us of potential viewing complications or missed attractions. On board commentary was interesting at times but otherwise monotone and boring. I would definitely encourage others to research other tour companies before settling on Gray Line. We should have gotten a discount and been informed that viewing would be difficult and falls would be skipped. I do not recommend.

Great way to see the falls

Bani_S, Jul 2018
I was in town for a short amount of time. This tour is the perfect way to see Multnomah Falls, CRG, and so many other gorgeous sites. I really enjoyed the little water falls. My host was so sweet and knowledgeable. I highly recommend to anyone either traveling solo or want someone else to take care of the planning, and you just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Terrific tour!

Carol_R, Jul 2018
Wonderful, knowledgeable tour guide! Very pleasant and relaxing not having to drive. It's an excellent way to see the beauty of Oregon whether you're a tourist or resident.

The tour was great. The process of going from voucher to bus-boarding pass should be better explained the exchange can be made the prior day. That was small. Thirty minutes longer would have really super.

My husband and I loved this tour. We had mostly wanted to see the Falls and the Columbia River Gorge, but we also really liked seeing the Booneville dam and fish hatcheries. Our guide, May, was very good and shared a wealth of information. She and Greyline handled a bus problem very efficiently.

Chia-Lung L, Jul 2017
Our tour guide, Ms. May, is awesome, very willing to help and has so many interesting information provided along the way. The falls and dam were spectacular, the tour is also reasonably priced. Only pity was the time constraint, each stop has no more than 20-30 minutes so it's hard to fully enjoy the scene for some ppl busy taking pictures.

Greyline tours is awesome. I needed the wheelchair accessible coach but it had a mechanical problem. When they couldn't get it fixed in time - they arranged for a RadioCab that was accessible and sent one of Greyline's drivers along as tour guide - what an awesome tour we had. I can't say enough about how Greyline handled this, and the tour was fantastic.

Great tour, amazing waterfalls and lovely bus driver. However, the last two stops the fishery, etc are very disappointing. I would rather have had more time at Multnomah Falls for lunch, or to have seen another waterfall instead.

Caroline_C, Aug 2016
Tour guide/driver was enthusiastic, and had lots of interesting facts and tidbits on the tour. Wish we could have stopped at more waterfalls, rather than spend time at the fish hatchery. Three stars only because of the confusion at the start of the tour. On Viator confirmation it says print/e-voucher was acceptable. however, we were told that we needed to exchange them for an actual ticket as we were trying to board the bus. we had to go back to the ticket booth that we had been standing in front of for twenty minutes while waiting for the bus. It would've been nice to know this ahead of time to avoid delays and confusion.

Margaret_h, Aug 2016
We were very disappointend with this tour. Only stopped at 2 waterfalls and barely had time to take pictures especially if you were seated at the back of the bus! Drove by others so quickly and the windows on bus had so much film you couldn't see well! Spent more time at fish ladder and hatchery than at falls...which falls we were more interested in seeing. The guide was knowledgeable but felt like we were in elementary school! We did cover lots of sights in a short amount of time. Hate to give poor reviews, but is our honest opinion of this tour!
