Overview
Hawaii is a scuba diving paradise and first-time divers can learn the sport during this introductory class in Lahaina. First, learn about breathing techniques and ocean etiquette in calm, shallow waters. Then, put your skills to the test on your first scuba dive alongside your instructor. Maui provides some of the best underwater worlds and is ideal for first-time divers.

Use Google Maps. We meet at Kahekili Beach Park in Kaanapali. Once you turn onto Kai Ala Drive, follow the road to the ocean, where you see a big public parking lot. You will meet your instructor at the scuba truck. Transportation is not included. Please let us know if you do not have a rental car.

- Not recommended for travelers with back problems

- No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level
- Minimum age to participate is 10.
- Guests should be able to carry a minimum of 30 pounds for a short distance.
- After diving you must wait 18 hours to fly or ascend to 1,000 feet or more.
- Guests must be comfortable swimming independently in the ocean to complete this tour. If you book this tour but cannot swim, you forfeit your participation in the experience as well as your right to a refund.
- Must be able to answer NO to each question on the Medical Statement. A YES answer requires a doctor clearance. Failure to secure a doctor clearance when needed forfeits the ability to dive and the right to a refund. Please contact Banyan Tree Divers ahead of time for a copy of the medical form if you have any health concerns that might affect your ability to dive.
- Transportation not included. Please let us know if you will not have a rental car.
- Requires you to swim independently in the deep ocean
- Not recommended for guests with asthma or sinus conditions

Booked this last minute and so glad I did. I’ve never been scuba diving but it was on my bucket list. I love snorkeling and seeing sea turtles and other sea creatures. Shane was amazing, he was very knowledgeable and explained things simply. We went on two dives and I can’t even count how many turtles we saw, stunning coral and even 4 sharks! Would highly recommend this for anyone comfortable in the water. Only took about a couple minutes to get used to the breathing. Just do it and have fun!

We had Shane as our dive instructor and he did an amazing job. Half of our group took to diving like fish and the other half freaked out were unable to dive for the majority of the time. He remained very calm and was able to monitor both sets of people appropriately. The experience was absolutely amazing and we half of us will definitely be diving again 🤣. 10/10 recommend.
Shane was extremely knowledgeable and patient! We got to see beautiful coral and tons of fish. I was very nervous but Shane kept me calm and me and my husband ended up with private dive experience. Hands down best place for your first dive! We would recommend to every first timers. It was our 20th anniversary and wouldn’t change anything! Shane has tons of experience around the world wouldn’t have asked for a better instructor!
Phenomenal experience with Simon smalls. Well worth every moment. The best excursions we had on our seven day trip. I highly recommend Simon for anyone who is looking to do scuba diving.
Easy, safe, friendly, a pleasure. We made two dives, seen eagle rays, turtels and much more, wont be the last time
Simon was amazing. He got me in the water even after I was scared of the ocean. He was awesome if I could give you 100 stars I would. even though I was pretty terrible, he still got me through it and had an extreme amount of patience like crazy patient Simon was overall awesome and I 100% do this again and 100% would recommend
We were first time divers and were super nervous. Simon was simply awesome. Demonstrated everything so patiently and kept tabs on us all along. He is absolutely the person to go with for beginner lessons.
Amanda was an awesome instructor! She was very patient with my 12 year old son and it was a great first scuba diving experience for him!

Simon was phenomenal! My boyfriend and I were first time divers and Simon was extremely knowledgeable and made us feel so comfortable in the water!!! Definitely the highlight of my trip!
This was an amazing experience! My wife was very scared about going under the ocean, but Shane was super nice and made this experience very enjoyable for the both of us! Highly recommend it!
We also saw so many fish, a sea turtle, eagle ray, and we got to hear the whales sounds 👌
Simon has been great, it was so easy to scuba dive with him and we saw many turtles, fishes and a crab. Best experience we had on Maui, beats everything else!

A perfect afternoon dive, Shane is a master guide! Saw turtles, beautiful fish, and the reef is spectacular. Mahalo!
As a first time scuba diver I had a great time. Naturally, I got a little nervous but Simon was a great instructor, who made me feel comfortable in the water, using the gear, and scuba diving.
Shane was wonderful. He was really patient and kind. He took a ton of photos of us as well as a beautiful eagle ray that surpringly found its way into the shallows with us along with lots of fish, sea stars, a sun star, and even some green sea turtles. Truly a magical experience I will remember and cherish forever. Total dive depth was around 30 ft, perfect for an intro to scuba. My fiance ended up not being able to complete the dive due to having a perforated ear drum, possibly from an old military injury, but Shane was sure to capture some photos for us beforehand and even helped walk him back to shore since he got dizzy. I really appreciated the extra mile Shane, Mahalo from Lexi and Benjamin!
Such a fun experience! It was my wife's and my first time trying Scuba, Chelsea made it super easy and fun. We saw a turtle! Worth every penny!
Great "1st time scuba lesson" for a 14yr old beginner. Shane was a super instructor, took my son to a level of scuba that matched his advsnced athletic skill rather than plodding thru scuba 101
Amazing experience, trainer was thorough and patient to answer all questions, she was great under water too as well to make sure we are comfortable.
Met with Kevin at the site. His delivery of the information was a perfect balance of being detailed and concise so that we could dive safely. Once in the water we had no trouble and it was fantastic. Definitely worth every penny.
This was our first dive. Kevin was wonderful! He was welcoming, understanding, very friendly, and excluded an aura of safety and fun. He also took some great pics the whole way through. We are so sad we couldn’t schedule a second drive this trip, but will absolutely be back with our sons in the future!

Caitlin was absolutely fantastic, very patient and made my wife feel very comfortable on her first ever dive. Everything was very professional and we loved it so much I am going again with another group this Friday. Would highly recommend. A must do activity in Maui.

I have been diving on and off for over 40 years and Kevin was far and away the best instructor I have ever had. My stepdaughter and her bestie was apprehensive about diving and Kevin to all fears away before we entered the water. He was informative and confident in his pre dive presentation. I highly recommend this experience for any diver no matter what experience or expectations you have.

Kevin haves us a great first scuba diving experience! We got to see all of the underwater life we hoped for!
Kevin was absolutely fantastic. My wife was terrified to try scuba diving, but he was very patient and helped her throughout. This was an experience we will cherish forever. We hope to do it again some day.
First time scuba diving. It was great and the trainers were super. The coral reef was cool. Next time I come, I plan to scuba dive several times.
