We arrived to the tour 10 minutes early- we saw a lady with a sign and it was the tour guide. She seemed rushed and told us that the tour was only of the outside. Her information and history was good. She asked us questions for us to figure out how the castle was attacked and from which position. After about 30 minutes, she said it was finished eventhough it was supposed to be one hour. We liked that we beat the crowd and not have to make the line. It can be done by yourself and buy fhe audio tour.

The tour was as described. Our guide gave a lot of information about the history of Portugal, especially about Pena Castle. He made tge kings come alive. His interpretations were sometimes comical. His English and French were perfect. I would have liked a little help at tte end figuring out how to get back to our hotel. In fairness, the tour ran 15 minutes late due to an accident so he was in a hurry to get out of the city.

The tour guide and information provided was enjoyable! However, I booked this tour strictly because it’s advertised as a “private tour,” where the listing specifically states our guests will be the only in attendance. That is not the case. There were a couple other families joined with our tour.

Absolutely the best way to see the castle. Joao (our guide) was so knowledgeable of the history and the design of the site. Instead of wondering around not knowing what we were seeing, we understood the importance of many details. Fabulous views of Lisbon when you climb the towers!

We liked this guided tour but I had read too quickly about the castle so I expected something else. The visit takes place exclusively outside, you can see the remains of the castle but the castle has no indoor room to visit or other. Let me summarize:
-Introduction on the history of Lisbon (20 minutes), at the entrance, on site.
-Visit the castle with a vision of "we want to conquer the castle" so here is what prevents us from doing it or the existing traps, section by section up the tower staircase with the flag.
Basically, it is a castle that is strong in history of military protection so you have to have an interest in this history:)
The guide spoke very good English, he was dynamic and liked to share this story with us, everything was correct other than I thought it was a royal castle and not a military castle:)
Life on the terrace was really beautiful, and you could see different angles of view.
