The house was in use thru seven generations beginning in 1738...remarkable! It has such an interesting history and is on a beautiful piece of property.

Family history is so interesting history; Cody, our guide, was wonderful. House is architecturally significant.

From the check in greeter to the tour guide my experience was great. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable and genuine. The history at this site is definitely worth learning.

So interesting. Great tour with knowledgeable guide. Hall has not been restored and illustrates the reality of the time.

One can see how properties change over time, including earthquake and changing styles and colors. Also changing economic conditions caused different decisions to maintain the property.

Autumn Hall was a great tour guide. Her research is fascinating and her ability to use person first language to tell the story of the plantation in a historically and geopolitically accurate fashion really distinguish her from other tour guides I have experienced. I was super happy to hear her say that she will remain on staff after her fellowship.

It is a preservation, not a restoration, which we liked. The people are incredibly nice and love to answer questions. The archeologists at the on site dig are wonderful to talk to.
Bob_O, Nov 2025
Very knowledgeable guide. Not your usual plantation tour. This is not a Mount Vernon tour. More of an archeological progress. But still a great tour
Beth_C, Oct 2025
This was a great tour. Our guide did a wonderful job of explaining the history of Drayton Hall. Easy place to get around and explore the grounds.

Drayton Hall is a miraculously-complete fossil, displaying the actual materials of its construction almost 3 centuries ago rather than trying to *look like* it did back then. Stabilized rather than renovated/restored.
As such it differs from every other such structure I've seen, in a very good way. Kudos to the National Trust for their efforts.
Our guide Cody was at least as knowledgeable as he was personable, a winning combination.

Beautiful Plantation and excellent guided tour. We enjoyed the gift shop and the video presentation.
Amanda_W, Sep 2025
Def listen and take the time to walk the property. It's so informative how they excavate and clean the artifacts they find
JEFFREY_B, Sep 2025
Drayton Hall has been on our list forever and our visit did not disappoint. Autumn provided us with a wonderful in depth tour. We recommend it to anyone interested in preservation.
Barbara_E, Aug 2025
Great tour and actually very moving to hear what the experience was back then, especially the plight of the slaves. Autumn told the stories so well, you almost felt the ghosts of the manor and the stories they wanted told

Drayton Hall is a must see plantation when you are in the Charleston area. We learned the valuable difference between “preserved” and “restored” when it comes to the historical accuracy represented from the Civil War and pre-Civil War era. We were enlightened and saddened too, to learn more about the abuse the south played in the lives of African Americans by wealthy plantation owners. Drayton Hall is carefully preserved to give visitors a glimpse of life as it was up to 300 years ago. The huge and striking trees, and the artifacts on display tell show the affluence of the era and Drayton family. Visit as many plantations as you can when in the area, but don’t miss this “preserved” rather than “restored” plantation.

I have been a member of the National Trust for decades . I couldn’t find any way to ask if there is a discount for members and staff didn’t know either
Rich_S, Jul 2025
Our guide did an excellent job. She was knowledgeable and very informative of details as they know them. We recommend this tour to anyone. Some steps involved.
Melinda_M, Jun 2025
Very informative. Becky was a delightful tour guide. It was EXTREMELY hot but the tour was well organized and the area was beautiful.
LISA_R, Jun 2025
Very interesting and informative tour of one of the oldest preserved plantations in the country. The house is well-preserved in the state it was in when purchased by the National Trust. The museum is small but interesting and the gift shop has beautiful items but NO drinks or snacks, so be aware.

Amazing glimpse into history and understanding how historical knowledge is aquired. Beautifully preserved house and excellent informative tour. This is the one place that I knew I wanted to go back to after first visiting 20 years ago.
Kathy_P, Apr 2025
The tour was great! Our guide was so knowledgeable and a lot of fun telling us about the property and history.
Beth_R, Apr 2025
The tour was only of an empty house. Maybe add a story about the people who lived on the premises back in the day
Daniel_H, Mar 2025
Very well done. Lots of good historical information. The tour guide was very professional and courteous.
Susan_B, Mar 2025
I love an amazing renovation of an old
house but this is the real deal.. you can really see how this house was built and the finishes that still remain. The docent was extremely knowledgeable as well. If you want to see and feel how a historic house was built well and maintained as well as humanly possible you will enjoy this tour. There are even archeological digs going on.
Lisa_N, Mar 2025
Great tour and experience! Loretta was awesome! Very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions!
Marnie_C, Mar 2025
The tour guide was so informative and kind. She had so much knowledge on Drayton Hall. Be sure to do the self walking tour of the property.
Jacinta_O, Jan 2025
Outstanding trip. Each Guide was extremely knowledgeable and delightful. Boone Hall Plantation was magnificently thought out and I’m glad they are utilizing the grounds for veg, fruits etc.
Thank You.
