A lovely walking tour highlighting historical and architecturally interesting homes in the Beacon Hill district. The added fun on this tour is learning how to take more visually interesting photos. The guide, Saba, is friendly, knowledgable, and loves to share stories. I enjoyed this more leisurely, laid-back walking tour.

    Lovely time in Beacon Hill

    Amy_K, Oct 2025
Saba is a delightful host for the Beacon Hill neighborhood. She has been giving tours for 20 years or so, and knows the back stories of the area. She gave us some great tips on how to photograph the area and our pictures are gorgeous! If you are interested in learning things about Beacon Hill that are not in the guidebooks, and you want to come away with some beautiful photographs, this tour is for you.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you so much for your kind words, recommendation and wonderful 5⭐ review, Amy! I loved sharing Beacon Hill’s history, hidden gems, and scenic photo spots with you and your husband. I appreciated your great interest for learning about the neighborhood and capturing memorable photos of your tour experience. I’m so glad your photos came out beautifully—it’s always rewarding to see guests capture the charm and character of one of Boston’s most picturesque neighborhood! With gratitude, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

Beacon Hill is lovely and picturesque

    Marty_K, Oct 2025
Walking through Beacon Hill was wonderful and our guide was certainly knowledgeable about the neighborhood. We would have liked to have had more photography tips, though.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your kind compliments, Marty. I was surprised to read your 3-star review, as it didn’t reflect the experience I observed you had during the tour. You seemed genuinely interested in the historical commentary and the fun photo tips shared along the way. The tour description clearly explains the activity is a walking tour designed for guests using either a phone or a camera, NOT a photography workshop. I provided plenty of photo tips at various scenic spots, but perhaps you were expecting more technical tips, given the amount of camera equipment you brought. The goal of a PhotoWalks Beacon Hill tour is to learn about the charming neighborhood’s history and architecture and capture photo opportunities from a casual and creative perspective, rather than focusing on advanced camera settings and instruction. I’m sorry the experience didn’t meet your expectations. Respectfully, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

If your group would like to go on another PhotoWalks adventure, I hope to see you all on the Architectural Landmarks tour for an exploration of the city’s iconic landmarks. Erin_S, Sep 2025
This was a unique and fun walking tour. It ended up being a private tour, and Saba had such great stories and knowledge of the area. She answered any and all of our questions -- whether it was about photography or the area. She suggested great shots and framing tricks as well as took some pictures of us, which was appreciated. We liked that it was a casual pace and we could hear stories that might not be typically shared.

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for the wonderful 5 🌟review, Erin! I’m so glad you enjoyed the relaxed pace, stories, and photo tips. It was a pleasure answering your questions and helping you capture special memories of Boston. With gratitude, Saba Alhadi, Founder PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you so much for your kind words, compliments and 5 🌟 review! I’m so glad you enjoyed learning about Beacon Hill’s past and present. It was a pleasure to share both the history and the small details that make the charming 19th century neighborhood so special. I’d love to welcome you on another PhotoWalks tour the next time you’re in Boston! Appreciatively, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

Pleasant walk for Amatuer photographers, Using phone cameras and offering basic photo tips .I thank you, to the guide.

    Dale_Z, Aug 2025
This is a small group tour which is good .. but designed for very basic photo skills with iPhones.. The guide had some knowledge of history .. but not in depth and was repeatedly trying to impress us with the high cost of real estate.

    Response from Host, Aug 2025

I am dismayed to hear your feedback, Dale. I’d like to clarify a few important points. First, a PhotoWalks tour is NOT a photography workshop, as clearly stated in the tour description. Second, the tour is designed to be fun and informative--blending historical commentary with creative photo tips for all skill levels—whether using a phone or a camera--and you used both devices. Furthermore, guests appreciate learning how to take interesting pictures in ways they may not have considered before. These newfound skills are helpful in providing inspiration for future photo opportunities. Third, I bring extensive knowledge about Beacon Hill's past and present as well as insider information. The combination of engaging storytelling and photography may not have aligned with your personal interests, which may explain your perspective. Fourth, it is NEVER my intention to “impress” anyone with Beacon Hill real estate prices. They are simply part of the factual context many guests find interesting about one of Boston's charming and scenic neighborhoods. I’m sorry the PhotoWalks concept did not resonate with you. Respectfully, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

    If anyone has difficulty...

    Diane_M, Aug 2025
If anyone has difficulty with uneven surfaces I might consider a different walking tour. The cobblestone streets and sidewalks were charming but you must pay attention to where you were walking.

    Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for taking the PhotoWalks Beacon Hill tour. Just to clarify, the sidewalks are flat brick surfaces — not cobblestone. In over 20 years as a tour leader, no guest has ever tripped or fallen. I always point out any spots that might be a little uneven so everyone can enjoy the walk, the history in an exclusive 19th century neighborhood and learn how to take beautiful photos. Best, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks

Good. Better on a cooler day.

    Joyce_K, Jul 2025
Saba was knowledgeable, easy to understand and had great tips on photography and well as great stories about the homes, land, buildings and people. She's an expert with i-phone and I have an android. I wasn't able to use any iPhone tips but her composition tips were excellent. Unfortunately it was a super hot day - 90 degrees with 90% humidity. And very little breeze or shade. And beacon hill is concrete and brick. My friend and I only last an hour of our tour then headed home.

    Response from Host, Jul 2025

Thank you for your kind words, Joyce. I’m glad you enjoyed the historical commentary. The composition tips work no matter what phone you use. Since you’re local to MA, you could’ve easily rescheduled for another day. I did my best to keep us on the shady side as we explored Beacon Hill’s scenic spots. Hope to see you again on a cooler day. Best, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

    Great Photo Walk

Saba was a great photo guide. Im a life long local and experienced photographer, she brought us to places I hadn’t photographed before. Her historical background commentary was a great addition. The pace was perfect with plenty of time to shoot. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun photo walk with a history narrative. If you’re coming to Boston and want to get some great pictures of Beacon Hill this is a great value.

    Lovely tour

    Laura_S, Mar 2025
Saba is a great guide who pointed out so many interesting details in Beacon Hill. This tour is like the saying, "stop and smell the roses." You walk and see a lot of things you would probably just pass by or simply notice but never bother to find out about, but Saba gets you to stop, look and learn!

    Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thanks so much for your kind words, Laura! I’m so glad you and your family enjoyed exploring the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood in Boston. Disappointing

    Janet_A, Nov 2024
Very little history was discussed. Too much time was spent on looking in people’s windows and finding architectural curiosities. We found out very little about famous people who used to live there.

    Response from Host, Nov 2024

I'm sorry to hear the tour did not meet your expectations, Janet. My goal is to provide engaging, informative, and enjoyable tours for all guests. The Beacon Hill tour is clearly described as a historical walking tour, providing captivating commentary and fun photo tips while exploring one of Boston’s charming, 19th-century neighborhoods. I'm not sure why you anticipated a focus on famous residents. Any questions during our walk would have been gladly answered. There were interesting backstories about notable individuals, both past and present, such as: 1) John Hancock (In addition, I showed an actual photo of his home) 2) Louisa May Alcott’s childhood residence 3) Nathaniel Hawthorne’s former residence 4) A famous politician and a well-known author who live in the neighborhood. There was also plenty of information about Beacon Hill’s history including: 1) How Beacon Hill transformed from pastureland to an exclusive area 2) The first resident of Beacon Hill 3) The oldest house in Beacon Hill 4) The site of the first kindergarten in America 5) The first racially integrated elementary school was in Beacon Hill 6) How Acorn St. transformed from working class homes to coveted residences today. I also showed a photo of what the street looked like in 1890. 7) The group responsible for preserving the brick sidewalks that define Beacon Hill’s charm. (I even showed a photo of the 1947 protest) 8) We were graciously welcomed by a homeowner to see the inside of her residence that was once a horse stable. It was unexpected and we were so fortunate. You didn’t seem to express any disappointment during the tour, yet you decided to stay the entire 90 minutes. Again, I’m sorry the tour wasn’t a better experience for you. Beacon Hill come to life

    CarrieMeersman, Nov 2024
Excellent tour! We (my teen son and I) walked up and down Beacon Street before the tour and Saba took us back behind to the neighborhoods and told us all about the more regular people. Very interest facts and made it very relatable. Fascinating and she had lots of interior pictures of homes to make it really come alive. Acorn Street was very cool and the diversity of people really amazing. The slave couple who fled north in disguise and also the first home on Beacon Hill was built by black men. My son and I learned so much. Really fantastic!

    Response from Host, Nov 2024

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Carrie! I'm happy to hear that you and your son enjoyed the tour, commentary and pictures that brought Beacon Hill’s history come alive. The stories of resilience and diversity in the area are truly inspiring. Yes, Acorn Street, the most photographed street in Boston, is such a gem. It means a lot to know that you both were enriched by the PhotoWalks tour experience. With appreciation, Saba Alhadi, Owner PhotoWalks Tours of Boston

Interesting stories. Loved the history. Interesting tour. The photo training refers to angles and positioning. Nice shots throughout if you’re into taking photos while touring. Saba is very sweet and gave a nice tour. I went on a rainy, cloudy and “brisk” day. I can imagine it’s stunning on a sunny day.
