Itinerary
After morning pickup from several meeting points in downtown Boston, begin the drive to Newport, Rhode Island. Listen as the guide provides history about Newport, a popular summer retreat that’s known as America's First Resort. Receive a guidebook and discount card to use on this trip.
The first stop is at the Breakers Mansion, the grandest of Newport’s summer mansions and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in turn-of-the-century America. Have time to explore its highlights, and don’t forget the photo-worthy ocean view behind the mansion.
Next, take a narrated city tour of some other Newport sites. See the St. Mary’s Church complex. This National Historic Shrine is where President John F. Kennedy married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953. There’s the Touro Synagogue, a National Historic Site that is the oldest synagogue building still standing in the United States. It’s also the oldest surviving Jewish synagogue building in North America. Also check out Fort Adams, a former U.S. Army post, and the U.S. Naval War College, the staff college and “Home of Thought” for the United States Navy.
The guided city tour ends at the Discover Newport Visitor Center to plan some free time with the help of the aforementioned guidebook.
Finally, take a tour of the Marble House, another impressive and historic manner that was a filming location for "The Great Gatsby."

We loved our trip to Newport; Lucia was a fantastic driver and guide and made the day really fun with her additional information, stories and tips. The bus was comfy and Lucia had water and snacks for us. The 2 Mansions we went inside were amazing - opulent and extravagant. We also really enjoyed our free time in Newport itself and followed Lucia's recommendedation to go to the Red Parrot for lunch. Also on her recommendation we visited the church where JFK got married and got to see inside. We had a brilliant day, it's been our 19 year old daughter's favourite thing of the holiday. Well worth the time and money.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Newport Small Group Tour from Boston! Two days before the trip, I received a call with detailed information about exactly where we would meet, and everything went exactly as promised. We were greeted at the designated location right on time, given our itinerary, and from there, the entire day ran like clockwork.
A few days earlier, I had taken a small-group tour to Maine that I thought was great—until I took this trip with Chris! Chris was training another guide on the day of our tour, so we essentially got a two-for-one experience when it came to the tour guides. Both were fantastic!
From the historic buildings in Boston to the entire drive into Rhode Island, we learned interesting facts and stories about the landmarks along the way. The trip was incredibly well organized and completely seamless.
Although the tour was about 11 hours long, it never felt overwhelming or too long. The time really flew by because there was always something interesting to see or learn about.
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone staying in Boston who wants to take a day trip to Newport and experience the beautiful Rhode Island mansions. Chris and the team did an outstanding job!

A day trip from Boston to Newport, RI, was amazing and ran smoothly under the guidance and expertise of our driver/guide, Chris. With the easy early hotel pickup, local informative narration and well stocked cooler and snacks (as well as frequent rest stops), he managed our busy well-timed itinerary throughout the day and got us all safely back to Boston on time. We were able to tour two Gilded Age mansions, drive thru many famous sections of the town as well as having a few hours to shop, lunch, or visit the spectacular Newport Harbor and all it has to offer. I would highly recommend this tour which does it all for you! Why drive when you can sit back and relax!? This was our third Viator tour, they’re the best!

Tim was our driver and guide he was very entertaining but not obnoxious took very good care of all of us. He had water and snacks and we made a stop for anybody that needed breakfast. Highly recommended if you want to experience The breakers and the Marble house in Newport.

This was a very relaxing trip out of Boston. We traveled to Newport, RI where we visited two Biltmore Mansions - The Breakers and Marble House. Both homes were beautiful. We also had time to walk a bit of the Cliff Walk. As we drove into Newport for lunch and shopping our tour guide pointed out other homes of famous people and points of interest. It was a very enjoyable excursion!

We enjoyed the day trip to Newport tremendously including the educational and fun commentary by Tim, ample time to tour 2 mansions, drive around other mansions with interesting facts and free time in Newport. The bus was also very comfortable.

Interesting day trip to view the gilded age mansions. Travel time was long, but unavoidable. Boston traffic is terrible. Would have been better if we could have been picked up at our own hotel, which is a major one. Tour guide Tim was very good.

I can’t but feel I’ve been on better tours with Viator. We did a section of the cliff walk, toured breakers and then the Marble house. The rest were just pointed at from inside the bus 🥴. Oh then we got a total of three hours at the city centre to do whatever we wanted: that’s just too much time without a focused Newport experience IMO

You also received a bus tour which is when the sights were pointed to. That is what you do on a bus tour. Wear comfy shoes, you will need to walk around for a few hours here and there. Make sure you have sunglasses or sun hats

The tour director was exceptional. Touring the different mansions were enjoyable but had to download the app on phone to get audio description of each room. That was a little cumbersome. The three hour stroll in Newport shopping area was too long.

Tim the Tour Guide was great! Besides driving all day he was an entertaining guide. Very informative and very helpful. The weather was fantastic so the cliff walk was amazing and viewing the Breakers, the Marble House and the International Tennis Hall of Fame was very stress free because the tours were self guided and you could go at your own pace. I highly recommend.

Our guide, I believe his name was Tim, was very knowledgeable.
My complains are about the vehicle, which was not adapted for tour. It was Pace van for handicapped or seniors . There was practically no windshield the passengers could look through, side windows had different stickers on them and rattled all the time because they were removable in case of emergency.
What bothered me the most, we did not get enough time to see both mentions! We got 1 h 10 minutes for The Breakers and just 1 hour for Marble House. There is no way to listen to the guide, look at artifacts and take picture in given time.
The itinerary says " 2 Hours of free time to explore Newport at your leisure" and we got 3 hours instead. Definitely we could use this hour to explore the mentions more thoroughly, instead we were sitting in downtown Newport on a low wall killing the time. What a waste!

The Breakers and Marble House are gorgeous! You have plenty of time to explore both. The tour guide have us lots of interesting information about other houses in Newport too. I appreciated that our guide let us know lunch would be on the late side. I definitely needed a snack to keep me going. My kids, teens and young adults, loved it too
