Great experience for families with kids

This was the perfect excursion for our family with our two kids ages 2 1/2 and 6 1/2. It’s about a 35 minute shuttle ride from the port so it isn’t too long and you get to experience a lot of different elements between writing in the slide with the 16 dogs, pulling you, meeting the dogs, learning about the history of the Iditarod and snuggling puppies. Our kids had a blast, and it was beautiful as well as informative. There is a little shop at the end where you can buy commemorative things and some chips, but otherwise make sure you bring snacks. We had Houston as our guide who was awesome, especially with our kids, and Ethan was our sled guide. Absolutely would recommend!

This is such a cool experience! I loved being able to take in some views from the White Pass train as well as hike through three unique ecosystems (the lush forest, the open boulder / rock field, and the glacier itself). While the glacier is of course the “star” of this hike, the sights along the way are just as breathtaking. A few notes that may be helpful for your planning: -Packer Excursions sets you up with a lumbar pack and water bottle. There really isn’t a need to carry your own backpack. There are several water bottle refill points from mountain springs and glacial melt along the route, so no need to worry about having enough to drink. -There is a restroom on the train and an outhouse on the trail. -I did this hike mid-June and wore fleece lined leggings, a tshirt, a sweater, and a vest. Early in the hike I was just wearing the tshirt. I appreciated having the sweater and vest for the glacier. We really warmed up in the afternoon on the way back; I could have skipped the fleece lined leggings and would have been comfortable. -The only additional items I brought on the hike were sunglasses, sunscreen, chapstick, and a hat. -While you get to see pretty blue glacial ice from afar, you don’t really get up super close to blue ice on this trip. It is still beautiful! Just important to keep expectations in check. Sam and Austin were great guides and we wish them the best as they continue to grow Packer Excursions and share the beauty of Skagway with other visitors. Thank you for your expert guiding, level of preparedness, and sharing so many interesting facts with us!

Our fantastic guide, Pam, was very knowledgeable about Skagway, Yukon, amd points in between. She spotted wildlife for us, including a black bear feeding beside the road. Pam kept the trip moving, and this allowed for some extra stops while still getting us back to our ship in time.

This excursion was much more than I had anticipated! Our guide Drake was very informative and was great with timing and he made sure everybody had an opportunity to get good pictures. The coach was comfortable. The sled dog farm was a tail wagging fun adventure. Even with heavy fog we saw an eagle, several tall waterfalls, and a couple of Dahl sheep. 10/10. - Arkansas Travelers

Great overview of the area!

This was a great way to see the area above Skagway and learn more about the history. Drake was fantastic -knowledgeable and funny. He kept us entertained the entire time. I will note the puppies were from the local humane society and not Alaskan sled dog huskies, but they were still adorable and we did get to see the sled dogs they were training. The suspension bridge was unexpectedly great too. I would recommend the trip!

He made sure we didn’t miss any of the important scenic spots along the way from the Skagway port to the Suspension Bridge in Yukon, giving us plenty of opportunities to take memorable photos. We have traveled extensively and joined hundreds of tours over the years and Gil is one of the best, if not the very best tour guide we’ve ever had. We appreciated the small group in our van, and our driver, Kayla did an outstanding job narrating the experience! The dog camp was a great time-a must for dog lovers! The stops on the way to and from were gorgeous. Our driver was again great with photo opportunities! She also takes great photos!

Amazing views, Mike was the perfect guide!

Our tour guide Mike was amazing! So fun, and very knowledgeable. He's not too bad with taking cell phone pictures for you either 😉 The stops were perfect, breathtaking. Pictures do not do it justice, you need to experience this in real life. We never would have seen so much that Skagway had to offer without this. The suspension bridge is fun, and has food/drinks to purchase while there.

Nice bus with working windows. They say we did the same sights as the train, difference was we are able to stop on the bus a few times for pictures. We had a rare and warm day. The people on the train complained they were sweating, over dressed and could not put down the window. Recommend the tour. Wear hiking shoes for visiting the falls.

Better than the train

We totally loved the trip with all the stops & photo shoots. The suspension bridge was amazing & the bison chili the proprietor served was delicious. Our driver Pam was very knowledgeable & treated us like friends. I would do this excursion over the train because of all the stops & we basically did the same route at half the cost. We were actually above the train a lot of the time. We saw a black bear & two cubs on the way & stopped for pictures- you can’t do that on a train!
