Booking through Viatour frustrating

Definitely do the Trolley tour. However, our experience booking through Viatour was less than ideal. We experienced confusion and frustration with receiving our tickets through the online/app, automated process. We eventually were able to retrieve our tickets, but not after some effort on our part. Having a live person to speak to would have been highly advantageous. For these reasons I would consider booking directly.

We loved our time on the...

We loved our time on the sailboat. It was very relaxing and peaceful. Our guide made the trip very fun and interesting as he sailed us around. You have free reign of the boat and are encouraged to wonder about to get the full experience. Greg, our captain was very laid back and welcoming.

We took the 1 hour North tour and it was very relaxing and informative. Our tour guide provided knowledgeable and relevant information and we enjoyed seeing the naval sites and learning about San Diego Bay. Some reviewers on this site complained that they didn’t understand the process for the 2 hour tour but they explained it clearly multiple times. Yes it goes out for one hour then comes back in to drop off people and pick up other people. You just stay on the boat for the 15 minutes. Highly recommend this tour if you want to learn more about San Diego history, enjoy the bay, and just relax.

The tour was very well...

The tour was very well organized, location, time, all the details were clear. I took a tour with my 3 years old son, we had a stroller with us but we left it on the first floor of the ship and walked upstairs. Second floor has some shaded seats which we took thanks to priority boarding and it was very nice. Although it got pretty cold in the middle of the trip, but we were prepared. I didn’t see anybody got seasick but I did take a pill just in case prior to the trip. Staff also has medication on board if needed. As for actual whales and dolphins experience - we got very lucky and saw 2 different types of whales and many dolphins jumping very near our boat. Whales were quite far but by law you can’t approach them too close. It was awesome to see these animals. Naturalist were very knowledgeable and together with the captain did their best to find best spots to see the whales.

Rip-roaring good time!

Our party of five (2 middle-aged adults, 3 teenagers) had a blast on the Jet Boat Ride! We were amazed by the maneuverability of the jet boat, and it was so fun to speed around the bay. You get to see all the surrounding sights while ripping around at up to 50 mph, with the occasional 360, and on-point hype music blasting. The boat crew were awesome - professional, friendly, safety-minded. Make sure you secure anything that could blow away, be prepared to get wet, and enjoy the ride. Highly recommend!

Lovely night on Mission Bay

On our night, the bay was as smooth as silk. We had a clear evening and lovely sunset . A few clouds in the sky made for great pictures. The staff came through the boat and Big Dave explained what we were sailing by and gave us a short history of the area and the bay. We had a good time and learned more about San Diego. It was pleasant and relaxing way to end out our day in San Diego. The boat had a bar and some snacks for sale. Drinks good. We did not purchase snacks. Everything about this trip was smooth sailing.

Whale Watch Trip

This was a nice trip...The staff on the boat were very nice...The trip was 3.5hrs long...We saw dolphins and sea lions...Unfortunately, we didn't see any whales, but that's always a possibility...Can't blame the tour operators for that...Since we didn't see any whales, as we got off the boat, we were given a voucher to come back another time, and the voucher has no expiration date...All in all, it was a very nice trip..

Great staff lackluster city views

Captain Michael and 1st mate Amy were excellent. Amy animatedly explained seal versus sea lions for kids, but also history of San Diego for adults. Laughter and learning for our large age range of kids isn’t easy and they did it well. We were disappointed there wasn’t a view of Navy ships, didn’t see dolphins or anything aside from Corbin and sea lions. The driving downtown portion isn’t in a very historical or pretty part of San Diego. We did get tips for places to eat and learned San Miguel was the original name for San Diego.

Serene sunset sail - San Diego

We thoroughly enjoyed the sunset cruise with Captain Patrick. This was our first time on a sailboat and he explained things well and was friendly and clearly experienced in sailing. Both of us were happy with the experience and of course, it helped that the weather was perfect! Altogether, a wonderful experience and some great memories made. We definitely recommend the two hour sunset sail with Captain Patrick! Just one note about the pre-sail communications - The communications were timely and detailed which was helpful. However, we received one address via the text message and a different address (for the next door parking lot) via the email. We were able to figure it out because we read both of them but someone only using the email sent from Viator would have ended up in the wrong parking lot.
