Overview

The renowned San Diego Zoo Safari Park presents more than 3,500 animals roaming in large enclosures that replicate their natural habitat. Go on a safari adventure unlike any other outside of Africa itself, with exhibits inspired by the African Serengeti and the Asian Savanna. With mobile tickets, simply scan your phone for direct entry into the Safari Park. Ticket must be redeemed on travel date selected. Tickets must be purchased at least one day prior to visit. After 3+ years of construction, Elephant Valley is now officially open! Come immerse yourself in this incredible conservation habitat and meet a multi-generational herd of eight African savanna elephants.

What To Expect

Set your own pace to see the animals in the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Take your pick of walking trails that lead to overlooks where you can observe lions, tigers and other exotic creatures. Venture into dense forests and grassy savannas along the safari trail in the Africa exhibit. Watch giraffe family mingle among the gazelles while rhinos gather at a watering hole. Observe South African cheetahs lounging on a sunny hill, or check out the majestic and endangered California condor.

Board the Africa tram for a 30-minute tour past herds of elephants, zebras and several endangered species. If you need to rest, head to Nairobi Village for dining and shopping options. With mobile tickets, simply scan your phone for direct entry into the Safari Park.

May want to bring your own healthy drinks and snacks. Elephant viewing was a bust, viewing area is at the far end of the enclosure and they were not viewable all day. New Elephant exhibit opens early March…maybe the new viewing area will address this issue.

Unable to get the tickets and had to purchase them at the gate. Says I need to verify my email but it's already been verified. Also received an email that said the tickets are ready but could not access them.

The volunteer staff is a great resource, they know everything and kindly share it. The park itself is laid out in a walkable circular pattern with e carts and strollers to rent if needed. Finally the wildlife viewing is AMAZING!!!!

It was an excellent experience. The guide was available every 5-10 minutes way to lead to proper directions where we wanted to go. Due to proper advice we were able to see entire safari. The experience to see animals from next to them was fantastic.

Safari wasn’t that exciting not too many animals, tram was ok but didn’t really get close to animals. Some construction at the park which we never knew about couldn’t see the elephants. Sorry was little over rated

Very good tour; clean boat; Great tour guide. The weather was gorgeous btw! The options to sit on the boat was a plus (dining area or outside, or top deck).

Our kids Loved the gas balloon, lion and tiger exhibits, the amphi theatre show and the merry go around. Safari with no lions and tigers during the safari tram trail does not make much sense. Lions and tigers are more of a zoo style in here. Too much walking and walk trails than the actual safari is very confusing. Overly presented and lacked the actual subject as they have more shops seem like a shopping mall rather. A couple of employees at the tram were rude and lacked customer service skills. Rest of the safari staff were very helpful and very kind.

Be prepared for lots of walking. It is a pretty open area. Not as many animals out there as the zoo. It was a great nature walk.

My wife and I visited the park together. We enjoyed ourselves. The park is very clean and well maintained. The only problems we had was the areas needed better signs, some of the signs were confusing. Like where the restrooms where and a better description of each area beside on the handed out map

The heat and lack of animals were the biggest highlights. The gardens were nice but that’s as far as it went. Very very disappointing trip and expensive for the 6 animals we could see on our long walk. Will recommend our friends not to bother with this zoo

Like any zoo visit, the animals are sometimes asleep or hiding in their burrows and or enclosures as you tour . But yesterday, I felt like I got to see most of the animals in their habitat. There is also Soo many food and beverage/ snack options throughout the entire park.

I really wish the Viator gave instructions specifically on the items that exist in safari and what we would be eligible for and not eligible for. Its disapponting when the information is given in vague.

Although a wonderful expert the line for the tram was ridiculous so we had to get onto a safari tour that was very expensive and everything on the park is a la cart ! Should include more when purchasing a tour !
