Itinerary

Meet your guide at Largo di Torre Argentina to begin your walking tour of Trastevere and the historical Jewish Ghetto area. Before you starting walking, learn from your guide about this square that’s home of ancient Roman ruins, near the site where Julius Caesar was assassinated.

Throughout your tour, listen to insightful commentary from your guide, an authority on Roman archaeology, culture and history, as you see remnants from ancient Rome that sit below today’s street level, as well as relics and architecture from medieval, Renaissance and baroque periods. Learn about the churches, synagogues, historical landmarks and popular cafes that make up these districts that combine rich history with modern-day Roman life, and feel free to ask any questions you may have as you walk.

Visit the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest churches in Rome with a past that dates back to the 340s AD, and see the exterior of the Synagogue of Rome, built in the early 1900s. Your tour ends at Campo de' Fiori, one of Rome’s busiest squares, from where you can continue exploring on your own.

Great tour! We enjoyed getting to see both the quieter and busier parts of Trastevere. We enjoyed learning about the history and how the locals live far from the maddening crowds. Thank you.

Excellent and knowledgeable guide. We did this in the late afternoon, so it wasnt anything like a half-day, but it was the right amount of time to see the Jewish Ghetto and to learn about life in Rome for Jewish people.

Lots of fun with our guide Irene. A wonderful, funny, entertaining and very knowledgeable lady who took us at a leisurely pace without rushing and showed us a side and history of Rome that perhaps not so many people are aware of. Highly recommended.

Irene was a wonderful guide for this tour! She took us off the beaten path and gave us some rich history. We highly recommend this walk. Irene made it very entertaining.

Guide complained more about not having the right shoes on to do this tour and we felt that she was trying to rush the group and finish early.

I had a good time on this tour and was glad to learn the history of the areas. I would have preferred an Italian guide who speaks English vs. an American, which while some would definitely prefer, I feel lessens the Italian experience. I would have also liked a more organized dinner as part of the tour since this was an evening tour. Overall I enjoyed myself and would recommend it.

Our guide, Irene, infused her pride in her city into our tour. This made the three hours with her even better. A walking tour let's you see everything and miss nothing of interest. We will now seek out more walking tours in our travels.

This was probably one of the best tours I have taken ever. Our guide Paolo was not only extremely knowledgeable but also passionate about Rome and we came out with a special feeling about the city and its History. Take the tour if you can.

Our guide was excellent and knew so much about the history of the Roman Ghetto and its surrounds. Make a point to have a meal here. The Jewish artichokes are out of this world.

Very good tour, found parts of Rome I knew about but didn't know how to get there. The historical aspects of both the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere are worth getting to know.

Jeanette Pena was an excellent guide who we would highly recommend to anyone interested in learning more about Rome. She was very knowledgeable about the neighborhoods we visited. She was engaging, interesting and has a great sense of humor!

Guide was wonderfull and very knowledgable. Provided a lot of extra information beyond what I expected. She was American, living in Rome for 10 years. Wish I wrote down her name. We covered more sites in a short time than I had expected

The walking tour was probably one of the best tours we've ever been on. The guide was very informed and was able to answer all of our questions.

I enjoyed this very informative tour through the heart of the Jewish quarter and through Trastevere. Our tour guide was Jeanette, an American living in Rome. She was very knowledgeable and humorous. There were 4 Americans on our tour on a warm and dry Sunday afternoon in early November. My only comment would be to start the tour a little earlier in the afternoon and perhaps extended it, if possible tour was 3-6 pm in early November in order to make a couple of more stops/visits in Trastevere before it got quite dark.

After four times in Rome i thought i knew everything about this beautiful city , but our guide showed me that Rome has more to give when you have an intelligent guide.

Very informative tour. We took this tour on our arrival date which gave us our bearings and the history of where we were staying in Trastevere. We had a little trouble finding our meeting spot but that may have been due to being up for about 22 hours!! We learned a lot that we wouldn't have normally known, i.e. the cat sanctuary. Our guide was full of interesting stories. We would recommend this tour.

The content of this tour was fantastic, tour guide knowledgeable, but tour was only 2hr 15 min, 45min shorter than advertised and ended in Trastevere not in Campo de Fiori as stated. Disappointing

Off the beaten path. If you have seen all the major attractions in Rome already, this tour is a must. A wealth of information. You will see Rome in a new light. Our tour guide was excellent.

Philip G, Sep 2015
Tour guide was very personable, knowledgeable, and informative. Two negatives affect her score: She wasn't wearing any identifying clothing or insignia or holding a sign, etc. at the meeting spot that would have been helpful. Also, she often injected her political views into her commentary and sometimes looked for an approving nod, which I could have done without.

Our guide Jeannette did a great job explaining the very sad history of the Jewish Ghetto and pointed out so many details that you would miss if you didn't have a guide. Gave me a better understanding of the area and what went on during World War 2. It was lovely to visit Trastevere - wasn't an area on my must see list - but really glad I got to visit. Really comes to life at night - great ambiance for evening meal. I learned a lot on this tour - highly recommend!

This tour highlights areas of the city you may not normally wander into on your own. Our tour guide Janette was great. She had a depth of knowledge and presented it in an interesting upbeat manner. She had as much enthusiasm at 6PM as she did at 9PM.

This was a small group and an amazing tour. So much history and our tour guide was AMAZING! She was so knowledgeable. It was great to have our small group and be able to ask questions and get so much of the side street of Rome. I had my 7 year old and 17 year old both loved the tour and the tour guide. Great for all ages, don't miss this tour!

Paul W, Aug 2015
Jeanette was amazing and so knowledgable! Great, small group of 6 people, and we learned all about the best places to eat, etc not just about the history. Would never have known about any of this had i not taken the tour. Super easy to get to on the bus from the Termini if you don't take a taxi. Just don't forget to pay before you get on the bus. A sweet nun paid for me since I don't know you needed to do this. Perfect at night because it was getting cooler at that time. This may have been my favorite tour of my whole trip.

Lawrence S, Jun 2015
Even though we covered the same neighborhoods with Viator's small group food walking tour not to be missed!, we found the history fascinating and the tour guide delightful. We really like the small groups as opposed to the larger ones.
