Massimo is the best tour guide

Cindy_C, Jan 2026
Massimo was awesome. He made the tour enjoyable, fun and all around excellent. We learned so much about the Vatican and Sistine Chapel. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Massimo.

Couldn’t understand

Lori_P, Aug 2023
We couldn’t understand the guide. We speak English and although she was her Italian accent made it impossible to understand.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Dear Lori, Thank you for sharing your experience regarding your Rome in a Day Tour. We always strive to provide English-speaking guides with a high level of proficiency in the language, and we are sorry to hear that this was not the case for your tour.We have passed on your feedback to our Guide Management Team, and we can assure you that they will act on your advice to improve our tours going forward and to ensure that other customers do not encounter similar issues.Hopefully in the future you will give us another opportunity to showcase the value of our tours and our guides. Sincerely,

A Very Long Day

Erica_F, May 2023
The ticket information stated for us to arrive no later than 8:45. However, when we arrived at 8:35, the office door was padlocked shut. An employee arrived at little after 8:45 to open the business. While not a dealbreaker, it was a bit disconcerting for those of us waiting outside. This tour is split into 2 parts: Vatican in the AM, Center city Roma in PM. Vatican Tour- my husband and I would rate this part of the experience with 3 stars. We stood in one place for extended periods of time listening to the guide. The pace was quite slow. While informative, the tour guide often had a negative tone. She shared multiple negative personal interactions she experienced with previous guests. The Vatican is so big and full of history, however, is was difficult with so many people in each small/medium sized room when it felt like we weren’t moving. A lot of walking is not bad, but standing in one place for too long in a packed area was uncomfortable for us. Coupled with the negative tone of the guide, we did not enjoy our time at the Vatican. Roma Center City Tour- we would rate this part of the experience with 5 stars. Our guide, Luigi was knowledgeable and personable. He was very conscious of his pacing in terms of when to pause for a break and when to continue on. He consistently called all 9 of his tour guests by name involving everyone in the experience. We highly recommend this portion of the tour. While the guides cannot control the incredible amount of people jammed into the Vatican, we wonder how different our experience would have been with a tour guide like Luigi.

Great tour with Paolo

perry_c, May 2023
Our guide Paolo was excellent. Paolo was knowledgeable and entertaining with details about the history of everything we saw. We highly recommend the tour and if you can get Paolo you’re in for a treat.

Amazing Roman tour!

Daniel_C, Apr 2023
Sandra and Fabio were unbelievably amazing. Both were very knowledgeable, personable, and overall awesome tour guides. We got more than the scheduled tour as they both adapted and adjusted based on our location to offer additional, interesting information. Both took the time to know our group and offer personalized interesting information along the tour. Also got great local recommendations for sightseeing and food!

We love Francesca!

Christina_W, Mar 2023
Francesca was amazing. Her knowledge and love of Rome was phenomenal. We learned so much and absolutely adored Francesca. Thank you!

Wonderful!

Brynn_T, Oct 2022
Very enjoyable your. Both of our guides (Paolo and Massimo) were wonderful. I appreciated how many sites we were able to see in the day! It is a long tour so plan to be on your feet much of the day. Highly recommend!!

Sandra made the Vatican...

Deborah_P, Sep 2022
Sandra made the Vatican and the Colosseum come to life! It was an amazing experience! The small group size made it easier to ask questions.

Amazing Roma in a day

Nicole_L, Jul 2022
Wonderful guides Chiara and Adrienne. Both very knowledgeable and easy going. A lot to see but they focus on the key things which makes it interesting. Physically very demanding so recommended average level of fitness.

Response from Host, Oct 2022

Dear Nicole, Thank you for taking your time to write this kind review! Chiara and Adrienne will be so happy of your positive feedback! We hope that despite the challenging rhtym you may carry a beautiful memory of this tour. Warm regards

A Truly memorable Experience

Robert_L, May 2022
Luigi, our guide, was one of the best I have ever experienced. He not only explained what you were looking at but he had an uncanny ability to take you back to where you feel like you were actually present when all of this was happening. Simply an amazing experience.

Response from Host, Jun 2022

Dear Robert, thank you for sharing such an emotional experience with us! We are glad to know that Luigi brought you back in time, we hope that you carry this memory with you forever. Warmest regards

Need to get own transportation to all sights

Joan_T, May 2022
Vatican tour guide was good but didn’t know transportation was not included for other sites. Would not have booked if had known. Expensive taxis and too much free time .

Response from Host, May 2022

Dear Joan, We're sorry to hear that the tour of Rome in a Day didn't meet your expectations. I hope you'll agree that our confirmation voucher clearly describes this tour as a 2-part tour with a break in between. Most clients are thankful for a rest at lunchtime, as this tour requires A LOT of walking as you know. While we do outline that clients are to find their own way to the two meeting points and no one has found it reason to leave such a poor review in the past, we'll be sure to review the descriptions in order to avoid a similar disappointment in the future. That said, to write that you need transportation to ALL SIGHTS is a bit misleading, since there are only two segments to this tour and therefore two meeting points. We're happy to know that you enjoyed the tour guide, and we hope your time in Rome was nonetheless unforgettable!

Great for Americans!

cupp71, Apr 2022
Look, it's simple. You meet them at the Vatican in the morning. They give you a ticket and, shortly, you're inside. You get a headset and a very knowledgable guide. It's crowded but you have the headset and she has an umbrella for you to follow. The Vatican guide knows their stuff. It culminates with a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Then you part ways.. You meet up with another guide at the Roman Coliseum several hours later. And this guide is just as energetic and knowledgeable as the prior guide.

Rome in a Day

Melissa_C, Mar 2022
Robert was fantastic. We were very lucky to have him to ourselves all day and he has a wealth of information, and history. My friend and I loved our tour even though weather did not cooperate our tour was amazing.

Lacks organization, communication and misleading

MARY_D, Dec 2019
Our first guide left us in the Colosseum and we had to fend for ourselves to get to the Vatican in time for the second half of our tour. The first guide's information was not interesting and self-absorbent. He basically led us to the sites and then the first part of the tour ended abruptly leaving us only about an hour to get to the Vatican by metro on our own and acquire lunch. The second guide was better but I got separated from the group because it was so crowded and it took me about 25 minutes before I found the group again. She was an art historian and pointed out some interesting artworks and stories behind the Sistine Chapel paintings.

Response from Host, Dec 2019

Dear Journey..., We make it clear in booking details and confirmation voucher that after the first tour, clients must reach the second meeting point using metro, it's a very quick connection and no one ever complained about this before (in 12 years). Perhaps your guide for ancient Rome was not to your taste. It was most likely a personal issue rather than the quality of the guide for which we apologize. That you got separated from your tour group inside the Vatican Museums is unfortunate but we always say "follow your guide", and this is required when the museums are busy. Thank you. So much to see

Janae_S, Dec 2019
This jam packed tour featured all the great sights of Rome. Our tour guides maximo and one other lady was very insightful through the day. They made sure to engage everyone and that we all understood the information. If you have one day in Rome this is where you’d want to go

Rome in a Day indeed!

Kyle_B, Dec 2019
The tour is split into two portions, each with a different tour guide. During the first half of the tour we had Maximo and he was very informative, had a great sense of humor, asked and answered lots of questions, and made sure that everyone was having fun. We met at Piazza Navona and then walked to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Venezia Square, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. After the Colosseum tour, we had to find our way to the next tour location which required using the train and google maps. The second half of the tour included Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and ended at St. Peters Basilica. As mentioned in the booking there are no food or drinks provided but there was time between the tours to get some. Be prepared for a LOT of walking, but also a once in a lifetime opportunity. We were only in Rome for two days and this made the trip well worth it!

worth while experience

krdon9, Nov 2019
My husband and i were so impressed with our guide. He was so knowledgeable and friendly. I loves what he said to us in the beginning of the tour. I am not just your guide but we are friends. As we viewed locations he added so much detail to places that we would have missed if not for him. I was so glad we took advantage of this tour for the friendship and the details that we experienced.

Awesome Tour!

Nikki A, Oct 2019
Truly one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. The tour takes you to most of the major sites around Rome and Vatican City which is great if you want to see a lot of the city but have a limited amount of days to do it. The tour guides were so friendly and knowledgeable and really told the story and set the scene for where we were and what we were seeing. They are what really set this tour apart from others. I highly recommend you take this tour (and wear comfortable shoes!)

Lots of walking but so fun

Gabriella_K, Jun 2019
My friends and I spent 3 days in Rome and wanted to see all the things, so we booked a walking tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny, unfortunately I don't remember his name. We saw 90% of the things you want to see and learned a lot about the history of Rome as well as modern day Rome. The only set back is that it is a lot of walking over the course of the day, so if you're not up for that I recommend booking it on two separate days.

magnificently wonderful

Andre_S, Jun 2019
Robert and his team were FANTASTIC. Very inviting, humorous, extremely informative and just a wonderful group yo interact with; we were all so very impressed with his details and willingness to ask, be asked and answer all our groups questions; the walking tour(for me,)never felt like we were "walking".... we were touring FOR SURE😊. l am so now inlove with Rome and must return to see all that l have yet to see...and for sure viator will be my tour guide provider. Love it

Jeramie_C, Jul 2018
Very pleased with both of our tour guide. Both were very nice, accomodating and knowledgeable. The reason for a 4 star rate is that after the 1st part of our tour - there was 1.5 hr break and the instructions that was given to us on where to meet up was not clear. We almost missed the 2nd part if not for the other guy that in our group that we run into-also lost. Otherwise, worth every penny

Excellent way to see Rome in a Day!

Huuhau_D, Jul 2018
We really like this tour. Our morning tour guide, Christine, is terrific with giving relevant info in interesting and fun ways. She is a native English speaker and was super easy to understand. She also managed the pace very well to make sure we get to see all planned sites .Our afternoon tour guide, Irene, a native of Rome. She gave us a fantastic tour of the Colosium, the Forum and other ancient Rome sites. Then she led us downtown to see the modern Rome sites and fountains. Irene is the best guide one can hope for .She makes sure everyone is cared for and are having a good time. We got all the info and fun facts we wanted at each site and more. Her energy level is incredible even at the end of a really hot and humid day .Thank you for a wonderful day in Rome .We went out on our own the next day and complete our Roman holidays in style!

My four star rating is a combination...

Jade d, Jan 2018
My four star rating is a combination of reviews for both tours within the full-day tour. The morning tour was amazing, our tour guide had great energy, humor and was very knowledgeable about Rome and each of the sites we visited. I felt excited and energized when I was touring with her. The afternoon tour Vatican was an average rating. The tour guide seemed like she hated her job and was complaining the entire time. Although there were long lines/queues, a tour guide shouldn't make it worse by complaining herself. And, she mentioned how the Vatican was nothing extraordinary to her since she works there and sees it everyday. Probably not the best thing to say to people who travel across the world to see this site. Afternoon tour, amazing sites but just okay tour guide.

Christina B, Nov 2017
My husband and I spent two weeks in Europe and this was BY FAR the best tour we went on! We spent our morning with the lovely Chiara, seeing the ancient Roman sights, and our afternoon was with Christina at the Vatican. We were blown away by both ladies’ extensive knowledge and great energy. EXCELLE

Chiara did the first half of the day...

Melanie K, Nov 2017
Chiara did the first half of the day with the Coloseum, Forum and other attractions. Christina did the Vatican. Both guides were knowledgeable, worked at perfect pace and made our group feel intimate with the history. I would recommend this tour to get a rich and deep but timely review of the city.

Stefan P, Nov 2017
We had a long list of things we wanted to see and do when in Rome. This tour allowed us to tick off more about half of that list in the first day of our 3-day visit to this wonderful city. Our tour guide in the morning was Chiara and she was absolutely fantastic. The first two stops were the Colosseum and then the Foro Romano and we family of 4 shared our guide with a lady from the US, so it was only 5 of us. The tour was really personal and we learned so much. The rest of the morning we had Chiara to ourselves. I don't remember the guide's name in the afternoon, but this was less personal by its nature, because we were in a larger group with equipped with intercoms. That was fine, but there are a lot of galleries in the Vatican and the tour can only give you a relatively brief overview. Still, you get a wealth of information and plenty of time to enjoy the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica on your own. To be fair, the tours are all pricey, but if you were to buy all the tickets separately and do the research and then queue up for all these places, you would probably need two days rather than one and it's probably not that much cheaper anyway. We thoroughly enjoyed it, but we ended up walking nearly 26k steps that day each or 19 kilometres if you prefer. If you are happy to do a lot of walking, which we were, I can highly recommend this tour for you.

Fantastic tour! The best of Rome in one day. If you have limited time in the city, I HIGHLY recommend this tour. Tour guides were very knowledgeable, told interesting tours, and were funny and enjoyable to listen to.

Brilliant tour, really enjoyed the day. Julian was very knowledgeable and really passionate about the history of Rome. He was very attentive and took the time to explain any questions asked. He did not just talk about the history but explained some of the myths and ensured we knew what was fact and truth. Irene was our guide for the afternoon and she took us around the Vatican and the sistine chapel. She defiantely knew her stuff and had great humour. The day is very long so ensure you are ready for all the walking,if not i suggest you do it in two half days. Really really loved it
