Self-guided Exploration: Pickup from Largo della Pace cruise terminal. If you choose Semi-Private tour, it will depart straight from the pier for a seamless start to your adventure. If you select Group Tour, simply take the free shuttle bus from the pier to the Largo della Pace terminal, where we will meet you for pickup. Please note that the pickup time may be adjusted and will be communicated to you closer to the tour date. You will also receive clear and detailed pickup instructions to ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable experience. Lost time and money in Rome

While waiting at location as specified on the reservation, got a text from tour guide to new meeting spot. Got the cruise shuttle and moved to Port. Found tour company, but, they did not have us on their list. Got another text. and was told to go back to pier where ship docked. By time we got back, tour gone.

However, following the pickup information sent to your email address and phone—especially the meeting location—is essential when joining any activity booked through Viator. Please note that tour operators do not use Viator signs, as Viator works with hundreds of suppliers in some ports. The company name is always used instead, and it was clearly stated in the pickup instructions. For the group option of this tour, the pickup location is Largo della Pace Cruise Terminal. At no point were you instructed to meet at the pier. Your party was the only one missing among the 192 cruise passengers from your ship served by us that morning. For future bookings through Viator, we strongly recommend carefully reading and following the provided pickup instructions. If anything is unclear, please feel free to contact customer support, available 24/7. Safe travels!

Do Not Book - a Shell Game.

We got a call the night before explaining there was no bus, but for 160€ more we could have a private driver. She didn’t add that there would NOT be a guide. Yes, no guide. Our driver was very nice, but the only guide we got was a prerecorded description that he played non stop. It was not synched to our locations. We saw St. Peter’s, Trevi Fountsin, Spanish Steps ( we had to figure out how to get from Trevi Fountsin to Spanish Steps on our own) and the Colliseum and Januculum Hill. Not worth 600€. The woman at the port was rude. We followed her directions when we exited the shuttle from the bus and went outside the gates as we were instructed. We waited 30 minutes for the driver. I called twice. He was inside the gated area. He was late. She saw us walk by. Definitely a waste of our time and money. Not Viator quality.

This tour is offered in three formats: group, semi-private, and self-guided. You originally booked a group tour, which, due to the low season in January, was cancelled due to insufficient participants. We informed you of this more than two days in advance and offered either a full refund or the option to upgrade to a semi-private tour. As we did not receive a response by email, we followed up by phone the day before the tour to confirm arrangements. 2. As clearly stated in the tour description, the guide joins in Rome and is not provided during the port-to-city transfer. 3. On group tours, guests should expect to walk for most of the tour, as tourist buses are not permitted in Rome’s historic city center. Since you were on a semi-private tour with a van, walking was limited to very short distances. 4. The meeting and pickup details—both on the tour page and in the confirmation email—clearly explain that semi-private tours are picked up directly at the pier. There was no need to take the shuttle to the port gates. We regret that your interaction with port security was unpleasant; unfortunately, they manage a very large number of frustrated cruise passengers daily and are independent of our services. 5. If a semi-private full day Rome tour in a brand new Mercedes-Benz minivan, with approximately 1.5 hours of port transfer each way, with a certified guide in Rome, did not meet your expectations in terms of value, we encourage you to consider alternative options that may better suit your preferences. Don’t book it! The walking tour itinerary and content was good but we had ( I am very sorry to say) The most unenthusiastic guide who spoke poor English with a heavy accent and mispronounced many words or inserted the incorrect words as description ( we have done many walking tours in many countries with many accents this was exceptionally poor). Many others in our group felt the same way and extremely disappointed. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU SEEK AN ALTERNATIVE.

Please note that in Europe, most guides speak accented international English — very few speak American English. Beatrice is a state-certified guide with extensive experience leading English-speaking tours and working with thousands of cruise passengers each season. 2. According to her report, your disappointment seemed to stem from the expectation of a private tour rather than a shared one. Please note that private tours are always labeled as such in the title and, here in Rome, typically cost at least 4 times more for two people. 3. We also kindly ask that you refer only to your own experience, as yours was the only negative comment received among 25 participants on the same tour. 4. And just to clarify — this is not a walking tour, since one way walking from Civitavecchia to Rome would take about 20 hours at least! 😊 Wishing you safe and happy travels!

Our guide was very good unfortunately due to persons in our group being late back twice we ran into issues with roads getting closed around the coluseum and we only got to see it for the time it took to walk around to where our bus was parked so 10mins when schedule had listed 45 mins

Tour was good. Our guide was very knowledgeable but was many times hard to hear because it was so busy in Rome. I wish she had been just a little more thoughtful in her execution of the tour. It was a small group and we learned some fun things about the sights and what I would want to see when I go back to Rome. Unfortunately our group wasn't the best to be with as several didn't thoroughly read the details that it was a walking tour and wore flip flops to walk on the cobblestone. Made no sense! The number one I say to everyone about any European tour if you are American is READ THE DETAILS and pay attention to them! It's not fair to dampen the time of others with your ignorance. Anyway, tour was good, not great, but did leave Rome feeling that I had at least seen some of the most important sites on my bucket list.

Magnificent Rome in a day

We did the private tour. Marco picked us up at cruise port, drove us to Rome and allowed us ample time at each point. We were able to tour St Peter’s Basilica. He informed us of history along the way. He even made us lunch reservation at a delicious restaurant. It was a magnificent tour.

Our guide was able to add to the taped commentary and was excellent at answering additional questions we had. The van was clean and very comfortable. There was time at the end to enter the Pantheon, but I would advise purchasing a ticket online prior to the tour. This was my first visit to Roma, and the tour was a good introduction to this beautiful city

Words can’t express or describe what a WONDERFUL day we had ! Max is an AMAZING guide no doubt. We were able to get inside at Saint Peter’s Square and in the Basilica during Sunday Mass. There wasn’t any place that was listed on the tour that we didn’t see. Again a huge thank you to Max for this once in a lifetime experience!

If you're going to cater to English speaking customers, you need English-speaking drivers

The biggest problem was that the driver/tour guide spoke zero English. All guests including us were English speakers. If not for someone in the group speaking Spanish, which allowed them to communicate a little bit with the driver and translated to the rest of us, we wouldn't have know where to go, how long we were staying, etc. Poorly organized, rushed.

Your review has left our entire office puzzled because the guides leading our private and semi-private tours this high season are: Mario, Max, Francesco, Leo, Luca, Matteo, Carlo, Tony, and Giovanni. Each of them speaks good, very good, or excellent English. Additionally, our general manager personally interviews all guides we hire, and he is British. With all due respect, it seems like you may have posted this review for the wrong business.

Our driver was over an hour late to pick us up. The communication was horrible when we were trying to figure out where our driver was. Because of this we called Viator to see if we could get a refund. When we submitted the refund claim we received a called from the driver who proceeded to cuss at me, call me horrible names, and was just overall nasty on the phone. We again called Viator to let them know what had happened and that we did not feel comfortable continuing with the trip and they said they added the information to the claim. All to find out that viator said they will not give us a refund but will not tell us why we aren’t receiving one, even after being verbally attacked AND not going on the trip. Horrible experience

Due to ignoring the detailed pick-up instructions provided 36 hours in advance, you appeared in the wrong place and at the wrong time. 2. Your refund request was rejected in full accordance with our cancellation policy, as instead of joining the tour, you simply left, saying you had made other arrangements. 3. We do not provide contact information of drivers or guides. You were speaking with our colleague who was coordinating this tour. 4. According to the record of your conversation, it was not him who was impolite and impatient, but you who used horrible names and cussed.

What a fun day trip into Rome! My wife and I decided to try and blitz Rome with a tour from Luca. We were able to navigate the city quickly in efficiently and saw everything we wanted to see within the time allowed by the cruise ship. Wonderful lunch suggestion that was my wife’s favorite meal in Italy! Highly recommend Luca for a tour of Rome!
