Very Misleading and Poorly Organized

I had a really disappointing experience with this tour company. The main reason I booked this tour was for the advertised access to the arena floor of the Colosseum — something that was prominently featured in their marketing. However, on the day of the tour, we were told that access to the arena was not available. No prior notice, no explanation — just a shrug and a “not available today.” It felt misleading and like a bait-and-switch. To make matters worse, the tour time was changed last minute. It was originally scheduled for 11:30am, then pushed to 1pm without clear communication, and then again delayed even closer to 1pm on the day. The lack of organization was frustrating, especially when you’re trying to plan a tight itinerary on one of the busiest weekends in rome of the year. Also worth noting — there are no bathrooms inside the Colosseum itself. This isn’t the tour company’s fault, but it would’ve been helpful if they had warned us ahead of time to use the facilities before entering, especially with all the unexpected waiting around. Overall, this tour did not live up to expectations. Between the last-minute changes, poor communication, and failure to deliver on key parts of the experience, I wouldn’t book with this company again.

Only a partial tour

The tour of the Colosseum was excellent, though I would recommend a tour that gets you to the bottom floor where the gladiators were housed. Our actual tour was cancelled and Viator offered this tour to us as a last minute backup and it was good but not everything we expected. The best part of the tour was the colosseum, but after that, we were essentially dropped off at the Roman Forum to wander on our own and that was a let down. Decent tour, but definitely don't expect much after the Colosseum.

Consider booking with a different agency. Our guide was very hard to follow, he walked extremely fast and lost about half of our group. He did not have any kind of indication (flag,pole,sign, etc) to easily identify him in crowds. We informed him he was walking very fast and that he lost half of the group, he did not seem to care. No time to stop and take in the views or snap photos. The entire tour was very rushed. He actually was so far ahead of the group most of the time the radio signal was not even picking him up. We paid a lot of money to go on this tour and felt it was not worth the expense. We did not have any time to explore the Colosseum which was disappointing. The tour also started about 30 minutes late.

Fast paced but time to take it all in for photos

The Sun in Rome managers Alessia and Elio were so helpful getting us to our correct location to start our tour when we were a little lost they even called on WhatsApp to help when they saw we were missing. Our tour guide was Sarah and she had a lot of great information. She was fast paced and got us a lot of info and used pictures to help explain. She also gave us time to take all of our photos we all wanted to take. We were only in the Colosseum for about a hour. After she walked us over to the Palatine Hill & Forum. This tour did not include a guide to that part so keep that in mind if it’s something you want someone to walk you thru. “Access” is not a guided tour.

SHAMBLES FROM START TO FINISH

It was horrific from start to finish. We arrived at 11.15am greeted by two reps who were very friendly. We were walked round to outside the colosseum. Waited until 11.45 so 15 minutes past the start time. Once this happened our tickets were for no more than 15 in a group, we had 34 which caused problems with listening to the tour guide. Before we went in the tour guide told us she is only doing 2 levels of colosseum but we paid for the arena and that’s the main thing we wanted. They gave us 20€ back but we were messed around from the moment we got outside the colosseum, even our tour guide only spoke outside and on level 1, we were told you have 15 minutes on level 2 (no guide) then if we aren’t out in 15 we’ll miss palentine hill and Roman forum. I would not recommend Viator to anyone. We booked all 3 of our tours with them and quite frankly all 3 were awful. You watch all the other companies professional while the guys Viator used ‘Rome in the Sun’ awful

We are very sorry for your bad experience. Unfortunately this is due to an overbooking that has affected all the tourist agencies. The timing of the start of the tour is also due to the overcrowding at the Colosseum. However, we have refunded the difference in the price between the regular ticket and the Arena ticket. We apologize again for the inconvenience.

Zeer uitgebreide rondleiding gekregen, jammer genoeg zonder de arena door een fout bij collosseum zelf... volgens de operator. Vervangende tour was wel uitgebreid en met veel uitleg
