Itinerary

This 7-night “Best of Italy” tour starts with pickup from Ciampino or Fiumicino airports by air-conditioned vehicle with onboard Wi-Fi. Your accommodations for seven nights, as well as seven breakfasts, three lunches, and two dinners are taken care of to make your trip as stress-free as possible.

After the transfer to your hotel, head to the ancient open-air theater of Marcellus and tour Rome’s highlights from the Spanish Steps to the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon.

Days two and three are for Umbria and Tuscany. Visit Assisi, Siena, and Florence—spend a few hours of free time in Assisi and Siena, and a full day exploring Florence. Have lunch in a Tuscan restaurant and take an optional short trip to Pisa.

Day four takes you to Bologna, where you discover the elegant city center. Continue to Padua in the afternoon and check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Venice.

Tour Venice on day five: Ride a water-taxi to San Marco Square, check out the Doge’s Palace, and sit down for drinks and local snacks with your tour leader. Spend the afternoon exploring on your own.

Day six is for getting into the Tuscan wine region near Montepulciano, where you have lunch and take free time to explore before departing for Rome, where you spend the night.

On day eight, tour the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, where you skip the lines and crowds struggling to enter. Finish at St. Peter’s Square and spend the rest of the day exploring on your own or on select available tours.

Then, spend the night in Rome, have breakfast, and transfer to the airport.

Good but some serious flaws in communication

John_P, Sep 2023
The tours we received were good. We were disappointed in a few things. The tour is actually six days, they are counting the departure day as a tour day. Also the first day is only a two hour evening walk in Rome where you have to find your own way back to the hotel. In Venice one of the tour days required you to find you way back to the hotel which includes navigating water taxis and city bus. Many of the people in our tour were concerned about getting back to the hotel so our tour guide, on her own, arranged a water taxi and charter bus. The final day which is the Vatican tour also requires you to find your own way back to the hotel. This might not be a big deal to experienced travelers but we were inexperienced travelers and that's why we chose a bus tour. We were told we would be notified which hotel where the tour would commence a week prior to our arrival however we were never notified and only found out by calling when we arrived in Rome. The first day was confusing, there was no communication about start time so we showed up a day early and only learned that the tour started in the evening a day after our arrival rather than the morning. There should be better communication regarding start times for the first day, notification of the hotel where the tour starts from, pick up instructions at the airport, and prior notification that you will have to arrange your own transportation back to the hotel for two days in Rome and one day in Venice. When they mention "free time" that means you are dropped off and have to find your own transportation back to the hotel.

Memorable Experience with Professional Staff, but Room for Improvement in Accommodation and Inclusions

Marivic_S, Jun 2023
The 8-day Best of Italy from Rome with Florence and Venice was truly a memorable experience. Our tour escort, Stephano, and driver, Luiggi, were extremely professional and made the trip enjoyable. Stephano ensured that the group adhered to the schedule flawlessly, while Luiggi's driving skills ensured our safe arrival at each destination. However, the weakest aspect of this tour was the hotel accommodations and the lunch and dinner arrangements. With the exception of St. Martin in Rome, which was exceptional, the hotels we stayed at left much to be desired. Carrani Tours should consider improving the quality of the hotels and aim for accommodations on par with St. Martin. Additionally, I suggest that Carrani Tours reconsider the inclusion of lunch and dinner in the package. Instead, providing a higher standard of hotel accommodations would be more appreciated by travelers. This would allow individuals to explore various dining options and have more freedom in their culinary experiences. Furthermore, it would be beneficial if Carrani Tours provided a list of optional tours not included in the package upon booking confirmation. This would help set accurate expectations for passengers. Personally, I had the impression that the tour to Pisa Tower and the boat and Gondola rides were part of the package, only to find out later that they were not included. At the last minute, passengers had to cough up $270 more to experience these iconic places. Despite these areas for improvement, the Best of Italy tour offered by Carrani Tours, with Stephano as the tour escort and Luiggi as the driver, was an unforgettable experience. Their professionalism and attention to detail contributed significantly to the overall enjoyment of the trip. With some adjustments to the hotel accommodations and tour inclusions, this tour could truly be exceptional.

Average experience of tour

Tour: Mar 19th - 26th, 2023 3 sections of tour: Tour Guide A: 1st night in Rome Tour Guide B: 2nd Day - 5th Day (out of Rome) Tour Guide C: 6th day in Rome Hotel: Rome - St Martin Florence - NilHotel Venice - Anthony Hotel Night in Rome (Visit to Pantheon/Trevi Fountain) Tour Guide A: Can't remember the name, an American lady. - Pick up information by a non-English speaking driver was disorganized. - Was supposed to be for 3, however, only received instruction for 2 person. - Messaged the hotline and no response. +39-3488105614 -Tour Guide A was leading the English group, good explanation and treated us Gelato while enjoying view at Pantheon. Very sweet gesture of her. - Wasn't mentioned in the description page that we would be required to find our way back to hotel. From Florence to Rome Tour Guide B: Stefano, heavy accent of Italian when conversing in English. Friendly and funny guy. Driver: Mr Franco, quiet but smiley person, helpful and patient in loading/unloading luggages in every hotel stop. Florence The stay in NilHotel was the worst experience ever. - Location is out of town -Be prepared for room without Water Kettle, Cup, Spoon, packets of coffee and tea and equipped with a 1950-s hair dryer. - There was a warm water dispenser far across the hall towards the so-called bar, and no jug to fill up. - Be prepared to be challenge mentally if you are to question how you can get the water back to your room and be wary of the bald headed goatee guy. - Terrible breakfast. No water bottle allowed to fill up from the water dispenser, but you can use your imagination. - Dinner not great. - Carrani Tour should ban this hotel from the list. Venice The stay in Anthony Hotel was average. - Location far from town - Dinner not great - Breakfast was ok - A/c was allowed to turn on For the free and easy after Gondola ride, thank goodness for Google Map that I was able to find ways out to bus stop. Few elderly couples were helped by a solo traveller to navigate out of Venice back to hotel. Rome The stay in St Martin Hotel was average - Restorante, cafes and grocery store are within reach - Breakfast was ok - A/C wasn't allow to be turned on. Tour Guide C, for Vatican Tour, was slightly impatient in attitude. Old lady. Overall, the tour experience will be much better if Carrani Tour can arrange way better and convenience hotels, and out of hotel dinner.

Tour itself was great but too many issues to recommend it to anyone else

CHRIS_M, Aug 2022
Tour itself is wonderful.BUT 1 Tour number is too big. 55 people! 2 We suspect that tours were joined together and we were not warned of the huge number 3 Group included families with very young children 2 of whom were special needs who were very disruptive on the bus. Again we were not aware that young children would be on the tour. Totally unsuitable for kids under 12 4 Hotel in Venice was disappointing. Very old stained bedding. Meals in restaurant were excellent. We realise that it would be difficult to find a hotel that would cater to such a large number but the quality of the hotel needs to be reviewed

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Dear Chris, thank you so much for choosing us and for deciding to share your thoughts! We noted your grievances and we'll do better next time! The weakpoint about your accommodation in Venice has already been forwarded to our Hotel Contract Department for evaluation. Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team

This trip was wonderful, we had a excellent time. This was by far one of the best trips that we have every experienced. This is a must do for the honey. She will love you even more. TIPS You should get the CAT 1 package, because hotels are centralized close to the entertainment areas. Bring good walking shoes, hats, shades and Euros. they only want Euros not US currency. You are in for a time of your life, so let the good times roll.
