My husband and I really enjoyed the surf lessons. We had never tried it before, so Max taught us from scratch. He explained everything very well and prepared us for our first waves. The lessons took place in a great atmosphere, Max created a very good vibe, he was absolutely kind, patient and attentive to our mistakes, correcting them immediately. Thanks to him, we will definitely try it again.

It was awesome dude. Max was an excellent instructor and did a Great job. We started at the surf shop to get the rules and basically. Then we headed to the beach and hit it. We got up on the first try and every time after that. It was busy but very fun.

My friends and I had so much fun! We highly recommend doing a surf lesson while in Hawaii especially with Max! He had great energy and helped us learn a lot in a short amount of time.

We had 4 adult beginner surfers with no prior experience. Max did a great job explaining, teaching, and coaching to help us catch a few waves and appreciate how incredibly fit surfers are to make it look so easy!!

This was a safe, low stress way for my kids to have their first surf lesson. Both were exhausted when they got out of the water, but so happy. They couldn’t stop talking about the experience. I got a lot of “did you see me mom???” Also, the kids are older teens and for them to be this happy, you know it was a good experience. Lol

We arrived to the surf shop a bit early , everyone was so nice. Max arrived and he was amazing. Showed us everything. Would recommend to take this. Me and my girl has so much fun .

Max was terrific. He went over safety stuff at the shop first before we took the boards over to the ocean. He gave great instructions and was a blast to hang out with. Highly recommend!

Max was great! He was knowledgeable and patient for beginner surfers. Make sure to show up 15 minutes early for land practice. 10/10 would recommend!

Max was great! He was able to get me and my girlfriend standing on the board in minutes. We had a fun time and definitely got a good workout out of it. Excited for the next time we are back in Hawaii and look forward to booking with him again.

There was more time spent in the shop “getting ready” than on the water. The surfing was supposed to start at 9, the lessons didn’t start until 9:30 and everything ended by 10:10am. Not with the $

Aloha, and thank you for the feedback. We want to clarify a few important points for future guests reading this review.
Our lessons are scheduled to begin at 9:00am, with guests asked to arrive 10–15 minutes early (around 8:45am) so they can check in, change, apply sunscreen, use the restroom, put on reef shoes, and be fully ready to go. As soon as guests are ready, the instructor begins the required land lesson for first-time surfers, which covers safety, etiquette, paddling, and standing up. This portion is an essential part of the lesson and helps prevent injuries in the water.
In this case, the group arrived late and took additional time getting ready, which reduced water time. Despite this, the lesson still ran until 10:10am, meaning extra time was provided at no additional charge.
We are proud to have nothing but 5-star reviews, and this is our first negative review, which does not reflect the consistent experience we provide. Our priority is always safety, quality instruction, and getting guests into the water surfing as efficiently as possible.

Amazing experience for a first timer! The solo group was personal, giving you the best experience as well as lesson. My instructor (the owner of the lesson/experience) was easy to learn from and to ask questions to. The hour and a half was a perfect experience, honestly more than that could’ve been too much!

Max was great! The meeting point is very centrally located and you walk barefoot (if you want) to the surf spot after leaving your bag at the shop. 2nd time we’ve booked surfing the day we arrive. All 3 of my kids (9, 10 and 10) and myself stood up most waves. Highly recommend.

We had such a wonderful experience with this surfing lesson at Waikiki Beach! My child and her friend just took the class yesterday, and they had an absolute blast. The instructors were super friendly, patient, and great with kids. They explained safety and technique clearly, helped the girls feel comfortable in the water, and encouraged them the whole time.
Both of them were smiling nonstop and came out of the lesson so proud of themselves — they even managed to catch a few waves and stand up! The vibe was fun and positive, and the team made it feel safe and exciting for first-timers.
Also, they have a photographer who uses a drone to capture amazing shots in the water — highly recommend booking that if you’re taking a class or renting a board with them. It’s such a fun way to get full photo/video coverage and keep a beautiful memory of your time surfing in Waikiki!

Max did a fantastic job with my teen boys, who were both beginners. They felt great about the lesson, and are confident they could go out on their own to continue progressing. We will definitely recommend Moku to friends who are visiting Waikīkī.

I had an awesome time learning how to surf with Max. This was my first time surfing and he was a great instructor. He adapted my lesson to match my skill level—as I figured things out, he gave me new things to learn. Instructions were easy to follow and when I did what he said, I could surf! I saw folks out there who were trying to learn on their own and they were having a hard time and weren't having fun. The lesson makes a big difference. 10/10. Highly recommend and can't wait to do this again.

Max was an amazing surf instructor! He's super friendly, warm and full of positive energy - exactly what you need when you're taking your first surf lesson and feeling a bit nervous. I was a little scared at first, but with his help i learned quickly and has so much fun!!

Great time had by all. Max was our instructor and lived up to his reputation. Both kiddos (8&11) were up on the second run and continually got better over our lesson. We ended, got lunch and rented boards for 2 more hours!
Rick and Max were both out there giving advice and cheering us on.
Rick was nice enough to wheel the boards back. Everyone had a blast and we have a new favorite hobby for the kiddos.

It was absolutely amazing 10/10 would recommend. Our instructor Max was so patient and great at giving instructions on what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. I was amazed at how well we both were able to do with no experience in surfing. My husband was even able to paddle into a couple waves himself! This was so so fun and would recommend Max to anyone!

Surfing lessons were lots of fun! Instructor did a great job walking through the process and getting us standing on the boards:) We paid extra to have the lessons videotaped, and it was definitely worth the extra expense.

My 20 year old daughter said it was the highlight of our Hawaii trip. Max gave us clear instructions to follow during the prelesson. Then out on the water, he would scream out things to remind me what I wasn’t doing, the immediate individualized feedback was critical in helping me stand up and ride several long waves back to shore. More importantly, my daughter was able to ride some long waves and she loved it. The private lesson for the 2 of us was cheaper than the group rate of the competitor and way more effective. Thank you Moku’s Surf and instructor Max. Surfing was definitely one of the highlights of our trip, we will go back the next time we are on Oahu.
