Overview
Oahu's North Shore is world-famous for its beautiful vistas and excellent surfing. Learn the ancient Hawaiian sport in this iconic location during this group surf lesson. Join your group and instructor right on the beach to learn surfing techniques as well as ocean etiquette. Then, it's your chance to take to the water and catch your first wave.

Waited a half an hour and called 5 times and the guide never showed up. Other groups identified the owner as Matt and said he has a reputation of doing so

Matthew was an AMAZING instructor with great energy! He taught in a way that was easy to understand and made our first surfing experience phenomenal! He gave great pointers while we were catching waves, and we got to go for some big ones (at least they were big to us!) Cannot recommend this guy enough! This was an experience of a lifetime!

Amazing experience, Matt went out of his way to accommodate a last minute change. He was a great instructor and we all did very well despite it being our first time surfing. Don’t hesitate to book this experience, great for kids and adults!!

3 taking lessons- boards were pretty trashed and guide was not very friendly or patient. He did let us surf a little longer than specified time but seemed like other companies might’ve been bettwr

Our surf instructor was very rude and condescending. He had very little patience at all. I was surprised given he had so much years of experience in teaching. Maybe he was just having a bad day? Either way our experience was not pleasant. He would snap/yell at us for not following his exact instructions. He was very inflexible and he was late to the session (It was only 10 minutes).

We arrived early to ensure we knew where to go. Looked around for 45 minute and couldn’t find anyone. No signs. Left several messages. They replied back that their network was down, they didn’t know they had a booking. I booked back in December as it was a Christmas present.

This was my first time surfing, and I had Matt as my surfing instructor. He is AWESOME and made the whole experience educational and fun. We spent a few minutes going over proper form and technique before heading out into the water, and I was able to catch a wave on my very first attempt. Such a great feeling! The coral/rocks underwater are sharp in some spots, so do your best to not get scratched up if you can. You might also get a little board rash and a few bruises when you keep surfing as a beginner, but they subside within a few days. Well worth it, though! I'd highly recommend this experience to anyone who's interested in surfing, and you have to request Matt as your instructor.

Slow start but an amazing day. My 10 yr old daughter and I decided to take surf lessons on our first trip to Hawaii. We signed up for this from Canada before the trip with no knowledge of surfing or the area but got really lucky with this company and specifically the surf guide. The slow start was due to a previous lesson running late then the guide arriving half an hour later than advised. We took the time to sit near the beach and watch the other surf lessons, these were largely made up of guides that were young surfers that spent most of the time staring at the young women and talking openly about who they wanted most when the girls were out of earshot. When our guide showed up he was an older surf veteran with a great attitude and a ton motivation. Matthew (our guide) explained everything and was completely focused on helping us surf and learn as much as possible. He was the best in the water at finding the perfect spot to read and catch waves. We we're incredibly lucy to have ended up with Matthew and if we're ever back for lessons again he'll be our first call. 5 stars experience.

It was nice to get away from the crowds at Waikiki and enjoy a quieter lesson. Anita was great, the water was perfect and hanging at the north shore afterward for the day made the best experience

This group of instructors was phenomenal. We are a big family of six with huge age ranges and they did a fantastic job with all of us. We had so much fun learning and riding the waves. Safety was very important to them and Jacob was very informative. Would absolutely do it again.

Our instructor, Sterling, was excellent and informative and patient. I received answers to questions prior to surfing very quickly. The water wasn't too deep and we didn't have to go too far off shore so I wasn't as scared as I thought I would be. The waves were just right.
This is a nice place to snorkle, too, with a lot of sea turtles. There are outside showers to wash off afterward and an area to change into dry clothes. We really enjoyed this experience. Surfing was a lot more physical than I imagined so do your yoga, stretching and strengthen your arms to get in shape before you go!

Our instructor Matthew was extremely friendly and patient! He made our experience much more pleasant and easy. We were both beginners and waves on the north shore was big, but Matthew took us to a shore with beginner friendly waves and great view. Would def recommend and ask for Matthew!!

Matt was an excellent instructor, showing up well before the scheduled start time and was extremely clear about where to meet. He wasted no time in starting instruction and getting into the water. The waves at the North Shore were larger than I had anticipated and I had a bit of trouble with getting up on the board in the beginning. Matt was extremely patient, encouraging, and effective with answering the questions I had as well as giving instructional advice. By the end of the lesson, I managed to catch a few waves without much of his assistance except for picking out waves. Matt is an amazing instructor who loves surfing and teaching people to surf. I had originally signed up for this lesson not expecting too much, but this ended up easily being one of the highlights of my Hawaii vacation.

Great time had surfing on our honeymoon. A photographer was there to capture our moments. Fun time and we totally recommend! We caught so many waves and my husband and I were standing by the end of the hour and a half lesson!

Chris was great! He didn’t make us feel rushed and gave us plenty of time out in the water. Surfing wasn’t for me-but Chris made me feel comfortable and didn’t make me feel embarrassed when I was ready to go back to shore. My husband on the other hand LOVED it and he made him feel confident and he even caught some waves! Would definitely recommend! Just get ready for a workout! Thanks Chris!
I will say if you are not a strong swimmer or scared of the ocean/ocean floor…this isn’t for you. (Nothing to do with Chris but just a general fear)

We had surf lessons with Chris. It was two out of the three of us’ first times surfing ever. Chris was helpful and gave key pointers on shore but utilized his knowledge in the water! We all road multiple waves! Chris prioritized safety and made sure the people around us were aware of surfing etiquette. We had such a great experience and highly recommend this and Chris to anyone wanting to learn to surf!

Chris Walsh as our instructor was amazing!! We loved the way he instructed our first lesson in surfing! He was comedic, fun, easy going, and even if one of his students are struggling to get out to shore via paddling, he’s able to tow us with just one toe!!!! Very talented man with such a free spirited and enjoyable personality in making our experience incredible! We would request him again when we come back! Thanks again!

We have NEVER surfed! We met Chris at Chun's Reef and he was ready to go. We were staying at Turtle Bay but their surfing catered to little kids not teens and was way too busy. Chris Showed my husband (50 something) and my 16 year old daughter how to handle the board and everything about the board and their surfing on the beach and then took boards to water. My daughter got on hers and caught a wave her first time! My husband on his second and they loved it. My daughter was a natural and always wanted to do this. My husband definitely will again. Chris was an awesome instructor who catered his experience surfing to each of them which was very different. Becca ended up way out and caught many waves during the lesson. Highly recommend this one! you can take the bus hourly for $3 from Turtle bay and its about 20 min down to real surfing and a gorgeous beach!

Took my family of 5 to these surfing lessons. Kids are 9 girl, 11 boy, and 14 girl. Chris and Mathew were our instructors and they were awesome. Very patient fun, and encouraging! Great tutorial on land helped all of us catch a few waves. Everyone stood up! My youngest did the best and rode several waves for 30-50 yards. Boards are big and stable. Great excursion. If you want pictures bring a good camera with long distance lens and take from shore or a GoPro on your head. You need you hands. Will do again. Great time!
