The one-one with my son was wonderful!! Easy to learn and lots of fun!! My son is 10 and was able to pick it up on the first try and continued to catch some good waves! Brandon was very patient and taught a lot about the area. Beautiful morning every morning for waves!

Great experience for beginner surfers (teens and adults)

Our instructor was great. He took two of us out at a time and spent time instructing us. I could only stay up for a bit but felt successful as a very inexperienced nearly 50 year old. My husband and son were far more successful. Great experience! Note: address on Viator is not the beach where you meet/you meet about 5 minutes north of there. Oh, and bring flip flops or water shoes! Would recommend.

Do you like being confronted by the police???

Do not book. Brandon asked us to meet him at a surf shop. We waited about 30 minutes for him only to find out he was waiting for us at the water, without his phone. Why ask us to meet at the shop if you’re going to be some place else? While we were headed to the beach, some guy starts obviously recording us. Then he asks if we’re looking for Brandon. Weird, but okay. Lesson started fine, other than the two homeless (?) women showering behind us at the public beach shower exposing everything. My husband and 16-yr old daughter took the lesson. My husband wasn’t feeling it and came in. On his way in, the State Police started questioning us. Turns out, Brandon doesn’t have the required license/permit. From the water, Brandon sees us talking to the police and starts swearing and telling my daughter he hopes we play dumb and don’t say anything. She asked to come in several times and he kept saying one more wave… stalling, hoping the police would leave. In the meantime, we are having to give official statements to the police and give them our contact information. Just what we wanted to do on vacation. The police finally give up and leave so Brandon and my daughter come in. He asks us if we told them anything and we said we answered their questions. Swearing starts again. We rinse off and head out. The police texted me several additional times that afternoon to get more information.

Dangerous, offensive, waste of time and money

The guide was 90 minutes late and called in a panic. He moved the meeting location to a beach that was incredibly rocky as compared to the advertised location. The guide started the lesson without the entire group, spent minimal time explaining and teaching before sending the group to the water. He then commenced to yell and scream, at one point grabbing the board of one of the participants, which knocked her into the water, hitting her head on the rocks. All three participants were bleeding, traumatized by the guide that was cursing at them by this point and he ended the lesson…. 30 minutes into the lesson and without one of the participants ever able to be included. He walked through the group of participants and our family, continuing to curse at how horrible they were and what a “disastrous” group they were. It is three days later and they are still dealing with deep cuts from the rocky beach, a headache from the fall and a complete disillusionment of surfing entirely. We do NOT recommend this guide. It was dangerous experience and he should be removed from the site entirely.

Brandon was great. He checked out the initial location and when it did not look favorable we were able to change to a more suitable beach which was close by. Out of our group of four everyone got up and road several waves. Brandon delivered good instruction on the shore then immediately got us out on the water. Very fun, safe and successful morning. Thank you!

I booked this surfing lesson for my boyfriend as a surprise, he loves surfing but hadn’t done it in the big island. He absolutely LOVED the experience. Brandon is awsome. Down to earth , kind, knowledgeable and fun! DOIT! BOOK THIS!!!!! Mahalo Brandon!

When instructor says to lay down on your board and you lay down on your back on the board instead of stomach🤣 Definitely recommend surfing lessons. It was🔥
