Loved the tour with Gary, a former biology teacher!
All participants hold BS degrees and all of us our animal lovers.
We saw the "real" Sitka, learned about the past, but also the changes that have been taking place.
The Bear Fortress and Raptor Center were both memorable. We also took in a river where the salmon were still running. Wonderful viewings of scenery! A bit of sight-seeing in Totempoke Park! Excellent Dungeness Crab & a great burger at Sitka Burger & Ceab Shack. Highly recommend this tour!

Kealoha is amazing. Great communication throughout the trip, very accommodating, spacious clean new vehicle, showed us beautiful Sitka has to offer.

This was a very convenient way for us (4 adults, 2 children) to see a lot during limited time during our cruise stopover in Sitka. Yes, one can save money by doing this on their own, but the convenience of being picked up at cruise port, taken to the places we wanted to see (Totem forest, bear sanctuary and raptor center) and actually getting there in time is of great value. Add to that the knowledge of Michael, our guide, who shared a lot of interesting info about the area (and brought along 2 car seats for the kids). In the weeks prior to the tour, the operator was responsive as we put together our personalized itinerary.
One reminder: if you book this make sure you check into whether you need to buy on your own the timed bear tickets in advance. They go fast in cruise season, and the time you end up with is relevant to the timing of the other visits.

Fantastic!!! I can’t say enough great things about our experience with Gary. He was kind, informative and the absolute perfect tour guide for our family. His immense knowledge of the area made this experience better than we could have asked for. He took us to a place that only locals know about/go to and the views were unbelievable!! All 4 of us, including our teenagers!, loved this tour so much!

An absolutely amazing tour! We visited Fortress of the Bear, and our guide Gary stayed with us throughout, sharing fascinating stories and local insights. We also explored at least three beautiful off-the-beaten-path locations, where we saw stunning waterfalls and peaceful turquoise lakes that we never would have found on our own.
It was simply an unforgettable experience and the perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sitka!

Great tour for our group of 4. Very accomodating and knowledgeable on the history and the area. She also gave us an insight into family life in the area. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Kealoha was great. We went into the tour with only one must have, and let her recommend the rest. She kept things informative and kept the kids engaged.

Michael was a great tour guide. I let them know ahead of time what interested us and he tailored it to our liking perfectly. He was very kind, knowledgeable and even stayed a little longer in the totem park with us which we truly appreciated. He recommended some places for lunch and shopping downtown which was also great. Sitka is such a cute little town with lots of local shops to pick from. Some of the best souvenirs I got from the cruise were from Sitka. Thank you Michael and Kealoha for your hospitality and showing us the best of Sitka!

We were able to decide what was important to us and tour was planned accordingly. Really enjoyed and appreciated.

Kealoha was so friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience of seeing Sitka wonderful. We learned so much from her about the culture of the Tlingit people and the region, it made our time in Sitka so much more meaningful than I otherwise would have been.

Stress free from pick up to drop off. I reserved it the night before, sort of last minute. Got the confirmation. In the morning the driver texted me with instructions for pick up. This whole trip was pleasant and stress free.

Gary was incredible. He was so kind and so patient and so educational. My kids and I adored him! Our family wishes we could bring Gary along the rest of our cruise so he can continue to educate us. We LOVED this tour. It’s completely tailored to your preferences and 10/10 the BEST tour I’ve ever been on.

Out of everything we did in Alaska and Canda, this was our absolute favorite "excursion". Gary was a fantastic tour guide and we learned so much. Communication was always easy and quick leading up to our trip.

Both Gary and Kealoha were excellent tour guides. They both had a lot of information and live the town.

Booked ‘Beyond the Dock’ for a family of six ages 4-74. We all enjoyed the Fortress of Bear and Raptor Center. Keoloha picked us up at the dock and gave us a wonderful tour and shared a lot of information in the process. We had planned to be dropped in town and take the shuttle back but she said she would take us back whenever we wanted to go. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Kealoha.
Patti_C, May 2026
My daughter, daughter in law and 3 granddaughters (teenagers) said it was the best tour they have ever taken. Gary was amazing. They are all still talking about how much the learned and how great he is!

We had the best tour in Sitka thanks to our guide Gary. Gary picked us up in his very comfortable and spacious SUV and took us on the most informative incredible tour that we will remember for yours to come. Gary is a retired High School teacher and is so knowledgeable about Sitka an Alaska in general. He tailor made our tour to exactly what suited us. We loved his conversations and knowledge. Thank you Gary.

Gary went above and beyond with our Sitka tour. His knowledge of the area was immense. He had a great sense of humor, and we totally enjoyed his company. Thank you Gary for such a great day.
Martha_H, May 2026
This is a must do tour. We really got to explore the city, the area. We found out about the fishing industry and how important it is for us.
Barbara_P, Apr 2026
Micheal did a great job of taking us to places of interest, very much enjoyed the short walk through the woods and the chance to see the bears in the refuge from a spot above. Some of the exhibits were still closed due to being early in the season but he managed to find places to enjoy.
Micheal is very familiar with Sitka and enjoys showing off his home area. Being in a small group, just four of us, made it so much more possible to customize our tour.
Thanks, Michael and my apologies for the meager tip, somewhere in transit the rest of it stayed in the pocket, noticed later when back on the ship.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hi Barbara, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback! Michael truly loves sharing the history and "hidden gems" of his home, and we’re so glad you enjoyed the flexibility that comes with a smaller group.
While the early season does mean some locations like Fortress of the Bear are still tucked away for the winter, we’re thrilled you enjoyed the walk through the woods and were still able to spot the bears from the overlook!
Regarding your note about the tip—please, do not give it a second thought! Your kind words and review are more than enough. We are just happy that you had a memorable time exploring Sitka with us.
Safe travels on the rest of your journey, and we hope to see you in the Tongass again someday!

Very informative and enjoyable tour! Kealoha went above and beyond to make certain we saw as much of Sitka as possible. Extremely friendly and very comfortable ride. Highly recommended!
Timothy_S, Sep 2025
Knowledgeable travel guide and a private ride to anywhere you want to go. And they don't mind if you need to grab something you need quick before the tour concludes.

We had the absolute best time on our private tour of Sitka, despite the rain! Met our guide, Kealoha, a local resident at the pier, right from the ship. We were escorted to her vehicle, which was comfortable and had a booster for our young son. Kealoha made the tour feel more personal and relaxed compared to the big bus tours.
She shared stories about Sitka’s history, culture, and everyday life that we would not have likely learned otherwise, and also provided lunch recommendations which proved to be delicious.
Highlights included breathtaking views along the shoreline, Bear Fortress, Raptor center, Totem museum and downtown. She was with us inside most centers and gave us detailed info on the animals and organizations. The coolest thing I recall was seeing a bear use sign language to communicate with one of the care rpoviders.
There was plenty of flexibility to adjust the pace for our family, and the weather. I appreciated her giving us a heads up the day before of how to dress for comfort.
Kealoha was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely proud to share her family's hometown with us. This tour gave us a deeper appreciation of Sitka, enough to consider work here. She was just the sweetest, showing us off-tour sites based on our discussions. We highly recommend this private tour to anyone looking for an authentic and kid-friendly way to explore Sitka!

Our guide Kealoha was very knowledgable of the area and friendly. Her vehicle was extremely comfortable. I would recommend her for a great overview of Sitka for first time.
