Don’t purchased self guided tour not worth it. Kids were really disappointed we didn’t even know what we were looking at. You are on your own.

The Whaley House was a good lesson in history for the area. As far as experiencing paranormal activity, when I sat in the first room and the guide started talking, I had full body chills for a few minutes, my lip continued to quiver for several hours. In the main bedroom I was drawn in by a mirror angled perfectly so you see a reflection of a picture hanging, it was a bit puzzling. The home is furnished with beautiful antiques. I was looking at my pictures after and seem to have a dark orb from that room, or is it?

Not really a tour

The people working were nice enough, very helpful, but to call this a tour is a bit hyperbolic. It is a "self guided" tour and that is literal. There is one film about a San Diego State Study of an archeological dig at the house, and then there are signs and pictures with written information. There are no movies or videos about the house and its haunted history. There are interesting photos, but it is pretty bare bones. They tell you there are "tour guides" inside the house willing to help, but my granddaughter couldn't find them and had to go back outside to the admissions desk to find someone who could answer her question. That individual was very kind and helpful and reminded us there were people inside who could help, if we could find them. Finally found one sitting in the courthouse portion of the house. She did not look up or address us as we entered. We did see one other "guide" who reminded us to not touch the artifacts. (We were leafing through an open record book that looked like we should look through it?) In other words, that guide was more like a security individual at an art museum than a "guide." Maybe that's all $40 bucks get you for two adults and a kid, but my granddaughter was really looking forward to hearing about the "Most Haunted House" in America, and there was really nothing about that on any of the posts or pictures. Just disappointing. Again, the people were kind, but the tour, is not a tour.
