- Some halls and galleries of the Vatican Museums may close unexpectedly due to restoration work or unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, the itinerary will be adjusted accordingly
- Guests must arrive strictly on time at the meeting point. In case of any delay, access to the Vatican Museums and participation in the group tour cannot be guaranteed. In such circumstances, no refund will be issued
- A dress code is required to enter the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Basilica. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders must be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements
- Exact full names of all travelers must be provided at the time of booking, as Vatican Museums entry tickets are nominal and checked against ID at the entrance. Any discrepancies with the names on your IDs will result in denied access, and you will not be able to join the tour
- A minimum of 4 participants is required to run the tour. If the minimum is not met, you will be offered an alternative date or a full refund
- This tour/activity will have a maximum of 8 travelers

This small semi private had a total of 4 people and was very informative. The guide was prepared with books and photos on his tablet to explain all we would see while in the chapel. It was over 3 hours and if you want to stay longer in the basilica of Saint Peter you can. We attended one of the masses that I believe they have every hour in different parts of the church. I would highly recommend the semi private tour. You will not be able to se everything as that is impossible you will see as much as possible and have it all explained. Tour guides also have quicker asses through the tour. 10/10

It’s a lot of walking. If the tour is 3 you will probably wall 4-5. The Vatican has stairs. Don’t eat around St Peter’s square or the Vatican go one or two blocks off for better food and prices.

This 1 star review is for the tour company. Our tour guide, Rich, is fantastic! We booked 8:30am semi-private tour two months in advance, hoping to avoid the afternoon heat and to have ample time to visit. A couple of weeks before our trip, the tour company postponed our tour to 2pm, promising we will have enough time to visit. Then on the day before the tour, they pushed the tour to 3pm, again promising there will be enough time. As Rich was walking us to St Peter’s Basilica after Vatican museum, we found out it had passed 5pm so by the Vatican’s rules, Rich was no longer allowed to give us a tour in the basilica. The only reason that we chose a semi-private tour was so that we could have more personal guide for the visit. Rich is incredibly knowledgeable and we really enjoyed his explanation while going through the enormous collection of the museum. Unfortunately, due to the company’s bad planning and last minute change, we missed the opportunity to visit St Peter’s basilica with Rich. Rich is an excellent tour guide and he tried his best to utilize the limited amount of time to share his passion with us. But the tour company really sucks.

Change of Tour Time:
We sincerely apologize for the rescheduling of your original 8:30 AM semi-private tour. Unfortunately, during peak season, time allocations at the Vatican can be affected by a variety of logistical factors beyond our direct control. That said, we completely understand how frustrating it must have been to have your tour moved first to 2 PM and then to 3 PM — especially after booking well in advance.
Visit to St. Peter’s Basilica:
While it’s true that, due to Vatican regulations, licensed guides must stop guiding inside the Basilica after 5:00 PM, we would like to clarify that you were able to enter and visit the Basilica independently, after receiving detailed context and historical explanations from Rich beforehand. He always strives to ensure guests are fully informed and prepared for what they’ll see — even when he cannot physically guide them through every step.
Tour Quality and Experience:
We're genuinely disappointed to receive a 1-star review, especially considering that the tour covered the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica (albeit unguided in the final section), and was led by one of our most experienced and well-regarded guides. Rich’s efforts to provide a thorough and passionate experience, even with the time constraints, are something we’re proud of.
While we fully recognize that the changes were inconvenient, we kindly believe that the review may not fully reflect the overall quality and content of the tour you experienced. We value your feedback and are constantly working to improve the way we handle high-season scheduling challenges to minimize guest disruption.

We were a family of 6. Everyone in my family had a terrible experience. Our guide’s english was hard to understand and he did not know the history very well. This our second tour through the Vatican. Our guide last time was very enjoyable and gave us fun insights. Our guide this tour stated very generic information. I.e. “The statue came from Rome and the ceiling is decorated.” After asking a few questions, he would read the sign next to it because he did not know. He told us to wait in the Sistine Chapel for 25mins, while it was extremely crowded. We ended our tour early and requested to walk through Saint Peter’s Basilica on our own. I do not recommend You Local Rome. It was a disappointing experience for my family.

Pros: The guide was extremely knowledgable and wanted to make sure we got a full history of the Vatican. He focused on key pieces/areas to highlight, which was helpful - as the totality of the collections is overwhelming. Skipping lines was nice, making a smoother experience. Explanations were clear and interesting.
Cons: The tour was 3.5 hrs. The entire time we were standing, sometimes for long periods, and walking very slowly. It was fatiguing. No breaks to sit down or get water for example. One toilet break. Sometimes there was too much information shared.
Still - I recommend going with a guide, and small group is better. I would do this again, but maybe ask for a break.

When they said skip the line, they meant it. I saw the giant line outside the Vatican and was like “ugh. Everyone else has skip the line too.” But then we walked right past them! Our tour guide so loved the art he was showing us that it was fun to see the admiration still after all these years.

Our small group tour ended up being only 4 of us. This was excellent, as our guide expertly maneuvered us around all the crowds and lines. We could not have asked for a better guide to the Vatican than Rich! He was very, very knowledgeable as well as patient with the four of us! Three booked excursions cancelled. One before vacay began and two last minute. Inaccurate assessment of difficulty level. MUCH more difficult than described. Most guides were lovely. Would have think hard and long before using Viator again.

Our tour guide was super efficient getting our group through the entrances and was super knowledgeable about the contents of the museums. He told us much detail about important artifacts and art pieces from various eras. He gave us some details about the basilica as well. We felt that the focus was so much on the art that we came away with questions about how the Vatican City operates overall.

When our tour guide Alecio spoke about the Vatican, he did it with great knowledge, and you could feel his dedication to being as informative as he could. He was so patient and didn’t rush us at all. Tour guide took us through the museum automatically with no enthusiasm. He did not seem to pay attention the group just kept running through the talking points. It was extremely hot and he did not try to keep us in the shade or tell us to bring plenty of water. It is a lot of walking and with the heat and crowds he just kept moving..

While the guide during the tour was excellent and very knowledgeable, I cannot recommend this tour due to the outrageous price. I was charged $800 USD, only to later find out that the actual cost of the tickets is just $120 USD. The markup is simply unacceptable, and it feels like a rip-off. The company is clearly overcharging, and I want to warn others to do their research before booking. There are better, more reasonably priced options out there.
