Itinerary
A guide meets your group at a set point near the Vatican, with admission to the Vatican Museums arranged in advance. The small-group format allows steady movement through crowded galleries and leaves room for questions.
The route passes through gardens and terraces to the Octagonal Courtyard, where Roman and Greek sculpture stands under the colonnade. The Muses Room, the Round Room, and the Greek Cross Room follow, then the tapestry and map galleries lead toward the Julius II apartments and the Raphael Rooms.
A small door opens into the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo's frescoes cover the ceiling and the altar wall. From there, an interior passage connects to St. Peter's Basilica, and the tour ends inside the church among its sculpture and architecture

Massimo our guide was incredible. He was knowledgable, engaging and passionate about explaining things. Making the tour fun with his humour and wit. He also pointed out great photo opportunities. We sailed round and packed so much more in being on a small tour. It felt like a VIP experience!

Giovanna aka big mamma :) was an exceptional tour guide. Friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. A delight that shared history without being boring. Highly recommend.
Shana_Y, Aug 2026
We had an entertaining and fun tour that gave us just enough detail but kept things moving with a balance of stories and history!
Lisa_W, Aug 2026
Our tour guide Marco was amazing! He was extremely well versed and had excellent English. He knew exactly how to navigate the crowds and spent time in the areas we were most interested. Woukd definitely recommend the tour and hopefully you’re fortunate to have Marco as your guide.

Massimo was an absolutely incredible tour guide! He made our tour so much fun; he’s very knowledgeable and funny. He pointed out things along the way that we never would have even noticed without him. I’m so grateful we had his expertise along the way!

Communication from Viator, which we just found out is now Liv Tours, was horrible. Every text I received with regard to our tour never mentioned that the tour was actually through Liv Tours. A tour guide was able to scroll through pages of stuff and found it. We almost missed the time

Donata was a great guide! She shared so much knowledge & humor. We enjoyed our tour with her. Thank you!

What an incredible experience! I highly recommend this tour, it is worth the extra expense. We waited about 15 minutes to get in. That was a blessing as it was so hot. Our guide, Massimo, was terrific! He knew everyone and was able to get us some different access than general tours. He provided perspective and history at every stop. He answered our questions and was highly interactive throughout. We were able to spend 45 minutes in St. Peter’s Basilica at the end. If you are going to the tour the Vatican area, you need a small personalized tour. It was so worth it.

We had a great experience on the **Rome: Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's Basilica Small Group Tour**. Skipping the long lines was definitely worth it, especially during the busy season. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and shared a lot of interesting history and details that we would have missed exploring on our own. The small group size also made it easy to hear and ask questions. The only downside was the price, which felt a bit steep, but overall it was a worthwhile experience and a great way to see these incredible sites.

It was spectacular! We learned so many important facts and fascinating things about the history of the Vatican City. Loved every minute!! Our guide was knowledgeable, personable, and delightful. We couldn't have asked for a better guide and experience. We feel very fortunate for this experience.

We had a wonderful experience with Giorgio, our tour guide. He was prompt, warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I can’t imagine having done the tour in a large group- it was well worth doing the small tour. We loved it and it was a highlight of our trip. Thank you!
Mike_E, Jul 2026
Very nice tour, friendly guide and we learned a lot along the way. Definitely would recommend to others.
jessica_b, Jul 2026
Massimo was the best. He knew everyone. He was able to speak on everything we asked and then some. If you have the pleasure of going you will absolutely enjoy the tapestry exhibition. Yes I said tapestry.

Our tour of the Vatican with Liv Tours was great. Our guide Marzia was excellent! She was a local of the area who clearly knew and loved everything about what we saw that day. She told us so much information about the Pope and the history of the Vatican and kept it fun. The Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica were all incredible and we wouldn’t have been able to appreciate the history without Marzia’s knowledge. We would absolutely recommend this tour company and guide.

We had a wonderful tour of the Vatican with our guide, Raffaela (Raffy)! She was very knowledgeable and knew how to navigate the Vatican and Basilica perfectly. The private tour was definitely the correct choice as we were able to move more easily through the large crowds and have a very personalized tour experience with the ability to ask questions immediately. Our guide Raffiy was very experienced and well informed about the history of the Vatican, the art within and all of the locations we went to visit. We especially appreciated how she spent time with us before entering the Sistine Chapel to explain what we would see inside and show us close-up photos so we could look for specific elements of the art once we were inside. She was very attentive to our questions and needs during the entire experience, which was almost 4 hours long. We were super happy with our choice to go with a small group tour and feel very lucky that we had Raffaela as our tour guide today. Everything was so easy from beginning to end!

This tour was amazing! You really do skip the line and at the Vatican that is a great feat! Our guide, Valentina Brasiello, was very knowledgeable and fun! We were a family group of 9 so it really is small group as listed. Would definitely recommend this tour, well worth the money.
Christina_S, Jul 2026

We enjoyed our tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s with our wonderful tour guide Claudia! She was knowledgeable, considerate and full of enthusiasm! We learned so much and our entire family enjoyed it!

Chiari was the best guide we had on our trip through France and Italy. She was incredibly knowledgable and engaging with our family. We toured the Vatican museum, the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter’s Basilica. She was engaging, easy for our children to understand, and kept our family involved and interested in the tour. She could anticipate when we needed breaks and helped us learn about and experience the Vatican fully. She also helped the adults and teenagers in our group gain a deeper understanding of the incredible art we saw together. Excellent tour!

Leonardo was absolutely fabulous. He was so knowledgeable in many areas: archaeology, history, religion, and art. We learned so much from him. He was happy to answer any questions. Having a guide with such a happy smile, and zest for the information he was sharing, made our whole experience exciting. I would recommend him to anyone, if you want a totally immersive experience into the Vatican.

Absolutely amazing tour and guide. Would definitely recommend. Breathtaking. Make sure you are prepared to walk including stairs.
Clinton_L, Jun 2026
A lot of walking but every step is worth it. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking was the art work. Entering the Sistine Chapel was truly an emotional experience for my wife and brought her to tears.
Kelly_W, Jun 2026
Our guide, Patrick, was outstanding. Liv Tours are excellent. I do wish Viator had shared more clearly we were on a Liv tour.
Wendy_M, Jun 2026
There is a lot of walking and the crowds are very large. The skip the line feature is very nice. It saves a lot of time.
Jeannie_K, Jun 2026
First of all, Giovanni was wonderful! Knowledgable, funny, engaging - just great in every way! I am still in awe of the history, talent and beauty that we saw on this tour. We were in Italy 9 days and did 8 tours. This was definitely my favorite and that was in large part because of our Guide Giovanni!
Kimberly_R, Jun 2026
Great tour guide!!! She was very knowledgeable and took her time with our group! Would highly recommend!
Janet_W, Jun 2026
Daniel was a terrific host and knew so much about the history of the Vatican. He really brought it all to life and made me cry with his depiction of the Pieta.
