Completely Misleading and Overpriced – Avoid

Philippa_E, May 2025
I feel thoroughly misled and extremely disappointed by this tour of the Barberini Palace. The main reason I booked – and paid an outrageous £330 – was the clear promise that we would see Caravaggio paintings. The advert explicitly stated twice that his works would be included. This was not just a selling point; it was the entire basis for choosing this experience. What we got was a tour completely stripped of the very artworks it claimed to feature. All the Caravaggios had been removed for a separate exhibition, yet this was never disclosed before payment – not in the description, the booking confirmation, or at any point before payment and only after payment with a refusal for a refund. This is inexcusable. To make matters worse, what was meant to be a two-hour experience ended up lasting just 90 minutes. Without the Caravaggios, the analysis of artistic comparison and development made little sense – how could we understand the progression without seeing the key pieces? This felt not only like poor planning, but a deliberate misrepresentation. £330 for a cut-down, compromised tour with missing content is absolutely unacceptable. If artworks are removed, the company has a responsibility to inform customers beforehand – especially when they are the centrepiece of the experience. I do not recommend this tour under any circumstances unless the organisers drastically improve their communication and transparency. This was a waste of time and money, and I left feeling frustrated and deceived. The tour guide did try her best and should be commended. This is not worth the money though and the owner is not very good at customer service.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for your message and for sharing your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear of your disappointment. We fully understand that seeing Caravaggio’s works may have been an important reason for choosing this experience. That said, we would like to clarify a few key points: At the time of your booking, the mention of Caravaggio was already removed from the tour description specifically to avoid confusion, as the artworks were temporarily relocated for a separate exhibition. This update was made in advance precisely to manage expectations clearly and transparently. You can verify this by reviewing the live product listing. We do our best to keep all product details accurate and up to date, and we rely on the platform’s standard layout to communicate important information to customers, especially regarding temporary changes or exhibition shifts. We understand your frustration and are sorry that the experience didn’t meet your expectations. We appreciate your recognition of our guide’s efforts, and we will take your comments into account to improve our communication even further. Thank you again for taking the time to share your concerns. Best regards, The Doooing Team
