Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access into the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, 'The Creation of Adam,' as well as 'The Last Judgment' gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

I got sick, so my daughter had a solo tour with Giovanni. She came back and shared that this was the most incredible tour from start to finish. I am so grateful she had this beautiful experience. I’ve used other tour groups but will make Viator my first choice.

This was a very well organized tour. Our guide was Annalise and she gave us very thorough information while we waited to enter the museum of what we were going to see and the story behind the paintings and painters. She engaged our children and they were interested during the entire tour.

Mariasole was our guide and was sensational! We knew we were going to enjoy seeing everything, but couldn’t have imagined it as good as it actually turned out. Mariasole was the reason for our absolute best experience we’ve had on our trip!! She was so knowledgeable, and had an explanation for each and every question we had as well as things we didn’t even know to ask. I wish we could have her on every tour we had!!

Barbara was a fantastic tour guide for our family. Extremely knowledgeable and seemed so passionate about the history. Highly recommend.

Our guide Massimo was brilliant in both his knowledge and his communication skills.
He kept the group moving and engaged at all times.
His use of an iPad to show us close up details and pictures at different time of day and year enhanced our understanding of the art works and the architectural features.
He is also as funny as he is good looking, as he will tell you himself.
He turned an amazing space into a magical experience.

Bruno was amazing. We were early enough where the lines were very short, and there were many lines that we skipped entirely. Our guide was so knowledgeable and packed us full of information. He took us to the most important spaces and prepped us before entering areas using time in line to give us background information. They’re obviously is more you could see, but there’s only so much you can see within the 3.5 hour time span. I couldn’t have stayed longer. It was the perfect amount of time. This was truly worth the extra cost to be in a small group and to have so much information provided.

You are the 1st to enter but beware that means 1st thousand people. Still much better than normal. Our guide was wonderful Roberta. This is still probably the best ticket to get. The history and beauty is unbelievable. Thank you

Our tour guide was very well informed and did a great job showing all the important areas of the museum and basilica.

The entire experience was just incredible!
We started in the museums, then Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica and finished in the Square. Sabrina our guide, brought a detailed info sheet of the Sistine Chapel art for our info, since there is no talking (or picture taking) on that portion. This was so helpful to really enjoy the ceiling art.
Sabrina made the entire experience catered just to our wants/ needs. With a knee injury, we were able to take elevators and take a seat every so often to make it through the experience as well. We even got to skip the line and go inside before the museum opened to sit.
The information shared was incredible, it brought the entire experience to life. Sabrina was so knowledgeable across the board, there wasn’t one question she couldn’t answer!
1,000% worth the investment to truly understand and enjoy thus special place.

Paula was our guide and did an excellent job of managing our time and maneuvering our small group amongst the crowds. It was quite nice to skirt the long line of tourists waiting in the general line. Paula was very knowledgeable and friendly and it was nice to see the great rapport she has with many of the Vatican workers. Highly recommend!

This was an awesome experience to top off your visit to Rome and Vatican City. Our guide Massimo with Liv Tours was truly a gem with a great personality and his historical content was spot on! He maneuvered the museum like a true professional and with his Italian charm…it was well worth it.
Why wait in line …book your ticket and go in a small group tour!

One of our best tours ever! Carlotta is welcoming, nuanced in her understanding of art, religion, politics, society and history. Passionate about her subject and a pleasure to be with. Organized and efficient with time and paving. Couldn’t be better!

Patricio is an excellent experienced guide! The small tour is a great way get questions answered. This is a very fast overview of the museum. She said you really need a couple of days to do just the museum. Having a guide facilitates our short time window really well.

An excellent tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums. Sabrina was a fantastic guide. She was extremely knowledgeable, communicated well and shared the information in such a way that you felt engaged and not simply talked “at”. This was my second tour with LivTours with the Vatican and she made this experience fantastic.
The Vatican is an experience that can’t be missed, from the fast entry, effortless ticketing process, entry to the Basilica, the great guides and the easy meeting place, they do a great job all around

A really excellent tour with a small group. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide Barbara really engaged us with the history and beauty of the Vatican. Definitely recommended for anyone visiting Rome.

I could not imagine visiting the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s basilica any other way. Our tour guide Carlotta was simply amazing. She kept a great pace and was a wealth of knowledge that she proudly shared. You can see and feel the pride she has for the history and culture. With the early morning tour, you beat the crowds and truly get to enjoy the tour. It was staring to get busy once we were done and were very happy to not be amongst the large crowd that was forming. From start to finish it was so easy. This tour made our trip. She even took the time to take us to a souvenir shop where items are blessed and can be delivered to your hotel. Such an amazing experience. Would highly recommend, especially if you get Carlotta as your tour guide.

Massimo is the best. A fantastic tour of the Vatican Museum. Fun and knowledgable. Highly recommend.
Michael_C, Jan 2026
This was a very enjoyable tour of the Vatican. So much beautiful art and our guide was great at pointing out the interesting aspects of the architecture, history, sculptures, and paintings in the Vatican. Very interesting, sometimes comical backstories with some of the art pieces too, even the more famous ones like the Michelangelo frescoes of the Sistine chapel. She was great at pacing our tour too and she managed and navigated us quite well despite the crowds.
Doug_M, Jan 2026
Tour guide -- Massimo -- was incredible and semi-private tour (6 of us) was perfect for being able to experience the Vatican in a more personalized way. Coming in January -- with less crowds -- allowed us to spend more time in the Sistine Chapel than friends of ours were able to during busier times. The Basilica should be on an Honorable Mentions list for Wonders of the World -- we could have spent the entire day there.
Karen_B, Jan 2026
I recommend being the first tour of the day.
Our guide Giovanni had a great sense of humor and made things fun and interesting.
Gregory_F, Jan 2026
We came on the last day of the Jubilee Year and the crowds were massive. Worth it to get in quick and bypass the queues. Guide was amazing.
sharon_g, Jan 2026
LivTours are amazing. Our guide was so passionate about Italian history and could tell us interesting stories.
