Itinerary
Meet your guide and a small group of no more than six near the Vatican Museums, where you enjoy early access into the complex.
Your guide takes you through the maze of the museums to see highlights including the Gallery of Candelabras, the Gallery of Tapestries, the Pinecone Courtyard, and the Raphael Rooms.
Then head to the Sistine Chapel where you listen to an introduction to Michelangelo’s frescoes from your guide. Talking inside the chapel is not allowed, so you’ll learn about these Renaissance artworks before entering. Then, head directly inside the pope’s private place of worship.
Gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s ceiling fresco, 'The Creation of Adam,' as well as 'The Last Judgment' gracing the back wall of the chapel. Soak in unobstructed views of the works, and enjoy time to inspect them in detail.
When your time in the chapel is up, head inside St. Peter’s Basilica. Here, let your guide introduce you to the best of the treasures held in the magnificent interior. Admire Michelangelo's glorious Pietà, the marble sculpture depicting Mary holding the dead Jesus, as well as Bernini's Baldacchino altar canopy and Pope Alexander VII monument among other great works.
Your tour concludes inside the church when your guide departs. You’re free to then continue exploring independently, perhaps looking further around the interior to see the papal tombs, climbing the Dome, or strolling around St. Peter’s Square as you wish.

Simply the best! Giovanni our guide was the perfect host - fun, engaging and ensured we saw all the right things. The experience is beautiful but can be overwhelming so I am glad we booked the early morning time slot. It was truly worth every penny. The crowds are tremendous as people say so save yourself the frustration and book a small group tour - especially with LIV Tours!

Luisa Was our tour guide and she was excellent. She was full of energy and knowledge. Her experience was able to get us in front of many of displays.
What could have been a very stuffy here are the facts tour was quite entertaining and enlightening. I would do this tour again

We took the early morning tour and got in fairly quickly. Our guide Gaia was very informative and pleasant in her presentation of all the many facts. Would definitely recommend.

Paula was so knowledgeable and gave us what I feel was a full experience! I had a small tour of 7 people and it was just what we wanted. Thank you
Robert_L, May 2026
Tour guide was excellent. LIV-TOUR logistics of managing mobs of people showing up for different iterations of the same tour were nonexistent. There was at least an hour wait just to get off the street, due to the chaos. Kudos to our tour guide for finding us, keeping us on track, and otherwise providing excellent guidance.

Very informative and interesting. Our guide was exceptional in every way. The communication from Liv Tours/Viator was very good as well. We highly recommend this tour!

Valentina was fantastic! She was a 10/10 guide whose energy and knowledge we're out of this world. I would recommend this tour to anybody and couldn't be happier with Valentina as our guide

Massimo was clearly one of the more popular guides and justifiably so. His presentation was not only interesting but very entertaining! We would request him again and highly recommend to others!

Christina was our guide and did an amazing job. Highly recommend LivTours and especially Christina as a guide. She expertly explained the history behind the Vatican and all of the many works of art. She kept a great pace that allowed us to see everything while still being able to appreciate and understand it. Perfect tour and would definitely book another with them.

I can’t imagine any other way to see the Vatican for the first time. Our guide was so knowledgeable and kept the flow of the tour moving very consistently. We felt like we got a great overview of the art and history as well as exposure to the key religious hot spots for Catholics. Our only word of warning is for anyone who like to move at their own pace this tour may not be right for you. We did wish we could have seen more of the art, but we got so much exposure to so many aspects it didn’t make us feel dissatisfied! By the time we finished our tour people stating their tours were waiting two hours for entry so highly recommend the 7am start.

Amazing! Max, our guide, was Outstanding!! He was so knowledgeable of every aspect of the Vatican, museums & the Basilica. He got us through the crowds as though the sea had been parted for Moses and the Israelites. Max made our small group tour unforgettable! We’ll forever remember him and our days in Rome. Grazi!

Sylvia was a wonderful guide, bringing the history and context to everything we saw at the Vatican and St Peter's. She was interesting and fun and it definitely helped having someone edit the experience to the most significant works. We highly recommend doing this tour, especially with Sylvia!

Paola was a great guide! She ensured we had the best experience possible. This tour is a great way to beat the crowds!
Robert_G, May 2026
A lot of walking, absolutely take an early morning tour to avoid the crowds, carry a water bottle and if it's sunny, wear a hat.

It is a MUST do. I would highly recommend an EARLY morning small group tour —- it is well worth the money. We had an amazing guide, Dario. He was so knowledgeable, fun and kind. Just not enough expletives to describe our experience.
Peggy_J, May 2026

Our tour of the Vatican with Massimo was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we started, it was clear that he isn’t just a guide—he is a master storyteller and a true wealth of knowledge.
Massimo has a gift for bringing history to life. He wove together the art, politics, and culture of the Vatican in a way that kept us completely engaged. He pointed out so many unique details and hidden gems that we would have easily walked right past on our own.
If you want more than just a walk-through and truly want to understand the significance of what you are seeing, ask for Massimo. He made our visit truly unforgettable. We cannot recommend him highly enough!"

It was a great tour. Mossimo was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were in the express entry line to get into the Vatican museum and only had to wait about 10 minutes to enter. We booked the semi-private tour and were very glad we did. I would highly recommend this tour
Deborah_K, May 2026
The Vatican tour was truly amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept the tour moving at a good pace. The museums were very interesting. I would definitely recommend going early in the morning as it does get crowded.
Heather_J, May 2026
Super knowledgeable, helpful guide. Made accommodations for a slower elderly tourist, above and beyond,
Brian_W, May 2026
Just absolutely amazing and beautiful. Early morning made it less crowded and we got to see more and hear our guide. Deborah with an H was so knowledgeable and friendly and funny. She made the Vatican more that it could ever be and that is saying a lot.
Lisa_C, May 2026
Well worth the money! Saves lots of time. We went in before the public. And had no line. Our guide, Franchesca, was excellent! He made sure everyone could see and hear well. His knowledge was beyond incredible. The lines with a ticket were horrendously long the day we were there. So pleased with this investment!

Vatican City is probably one of the most culturally rich places on the planet. If you are Catholic, as we are, the experience will be all the more deeper. The magnificence of the art and abundance of the collections are overwhelming at times. It really is quite stunning. If you can, take the small tour. My wife and I toured with a young woman named Lia. She was kind and very knowledgeable and truly loved the Vatican's heritage. This trip has been on the bucket list for a while, and it was well worth the wait. See it soon.

Our early morning Vatican visit by LivTours was a highlight of our trip to Rome. Our guide, Massimo, was informative, personable, and fun. The four hours seem to fly by as he highlighted the key points of interest at this historic majestic site. With the small group, he made each of us feel like a VIP. The presentation was engaging and the best tour that we had while in Italy. I would highly recommend LivTours and I will be using them exclusively on our future travel.
