We had a small group, just four of us, and had a great time. Jay was a great driver/tour guide. We loved seeing the waterfalls, Mt. Hood, and the winery. The hatchery wasn't that great, so could have easily skipped that and spent more time at the winery. Overall it was a great day!

Acknowledgement of Safety Briefing
When boarding the vehicle and exiting the vehicle to use a three-point stand.
Traffic and transportation safety: Pay special attention at intersections, use pedestrian crosswalks whenever possible and always wear a seat belt on tour vehicle.
Health and Hydration: Tours can be physically demanding. Stay hydrated and carry any necessary medications; plan for breaks when needed.
What to Do if Lost: If you get separated from the group, do not panic. Stop walking and wait right where you are. Call our tour company phone.
Walking on Uneven Terrain:
• Technique
• Scan the path: Look ten feet ahead. Do not just look at your feet.
• Short steps: Take small, slow steps.
• Flat feet: Place your whole foot down. Do not just walk on your toes or heels.
• Go slow uphill & downhill
Safety & Hazards
• Watch for water: Wet rocks, moss, and mud are very slick. Walk around them if you can.
• Never run: Speed causes trips and twisted ankles.
Snow & Ice:
• Don’t cross in front of snow removal equipment (snow blowers, plows, etc.). It’s safer to cross behind.
• Observe extreme caution when entering and exiting vehicles. Warm soles on compact snow/ice increase the risk of slip/falls. Use the vehicle for support.
• Watch out for black ice, wet floors/stairways and overhead/ falling hazards (icicles or snow/ice on sloping roofs and in trees).
• Never attempt to drive or walk on carpet, tile, stone, or ceramic surfaces while wearing Yaktrax. Take them off before driving or entering a building!
Plants and Animals: Do not touch any plants or animals. Touching them is dangerous for you and for them. Animals carry germs and diseases. Plants can cause rashes or allergic reactions.
• Do not approach or follow wildlife for a “better look.”
• Observe wildlife from a distance so they are not scared or forced to flee.
• You are too close if your presence or actions cause wildlife to alter their normal habits.
Water: Never drink raw mountain water. Even clear streams hide dangerous bacteria, viruses, and parasites like Giardia. Animals use the water upstream, and you cannot see germs. Drinking raw water can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration.
Always keep your valuables with you. We are not responsible for any loss of personal items
Wine Tours:
• Moderation is key. While tasting various wines is part of the adventure, overindulgence can lead to health issues or impair judgment. It’s important to pace yourself and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water between tastings.
• Travelers should also be aware of their surroundings. Vineyards can have uneven terrain, so wearing comfortable shoes is advisable to prevent falls. Staying close to your group avoids getting lost in unfamiliar areas.
• For those with allergies or dietary restrictions, communicating these to the guide and winery beforehand allows for a safer dining experience during the tour.

Itinerary
Visit the top attractions in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area in this full day of exploration just outside of Portland. In the morning, enjoy unparalleled scenic views from Portland Women’s Forum and Vista House, then gaze in wonder at towering waterfalls.
For lunch, explore charming downtown Hood River, where the historic buildings are filled with boutiques, designer shops, outdoor adventure gear outfitters, antique shops, art galleries, and more than 30 restaurants.
In the afternoon, visit a vineyard in the Columbia Gorge AVA where the beauty of the landscape is inextricable from its allure as a world-class wine region. Wines produced from this region tend to be riper than wines from Oregon’s cooler, western regions and with higher acidity and structure than what occurs naturally in the warmer, eastern AVAs.
Discover the postcard-perfect scenery and great wines of the Columbia River Gorge during this day trip from Portland.

Mountains and Wine Tasting
Tiffany_D, Sep 2025
Phil was a great guide. So knowledgeable and engaging. It seemed like he could answer any question anyone had. The waterfall was beautiful and made a good first stop. The hatchery was interesting. I wasn't sure about the stop at the Mt. Hood ski resort. There didn't seem to be much of a point to it but it was nice to be able to go up into the mountain. We enjoyed meeting Joe Fish and hearing about their community. Our favorite part was the wine tasting. The wine was excellent and it was a fun atmosphere where we got to hang out with the other people in our group and get to know them a bit.

Great tour for couples or on your own!
Kristie_J, Jul 2025
A great all around tour! We had an amazing tour guide, Zach, that made the trip better. This tour takes you to beautiful waterfalls with just enough time to view them and take photos. If you want more time at Mt. Hood, I would forego the winery experience and opt for the Mt. Hood focused tour.

Fantastic trip, highly recommend
Toni_H, Jul 2025
Firstly our tour guide Jay was exceptional throughout the day but especially when my mobile phone fell from my bag onto the car floor and we only realised this after the day trip had finished and we were back at our hotel. He found my phone and drove back to our hotel to return it personally, much to my great appreciation, I will be forever grateful. Now to the day trip. There were a lot of different stops along the way which kept the day interesting. Our guide gave us lots of information about each destination stop as well as funny and interesting information whilst in transit. We loved the wine tasting session, and the final destination to Mt Hood and the lovely hotel with spectacular views. we rate this 10 out of 10 plus 1 extra for Jay who gets 11 out of 10.

Jay our tour guide was excellent. He went out of his way to make us comfortable. His knowledge of the area was extensive. We learned so much about the Hood River and its beautiful waterfalls. Our lunch stop in Mt. Hood was fantastic thanks to Jay’s recommendation. We were a party of 3 mature women and Jay made sure we were well taken care of. We appreciate the fact that our tour wasn’t cancelled due to the small number of participants. The stops planned on the tour were informative and gave us plenty of time to see the falls and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Thank you Jay for a wonderful day the 3 sisters from Ga, Ohio and Ala

This excursion had a pre-start out that was a bit rocky due to a poorly written email, but it ended up being an excellent excursion. Our tour guide, Jay, was great. It was only two of us and I was surprised that the tour wasn't cancelled and so grateful that it wasn't. My daughter and I had a great time. Jay made sure we were well taken care of from the time we left Portland and returned at the end of day. He was also very knowledgeable about all things related to Oregon and went to great lengths to explain each stop on the tour and things we passed enroute. He recommended some additional sites to see in Portland and some great places to eat.
If you are in Portland or the surrounding area and are looking for an inexpensive tour that includes the fee for a winery, I strongly suggest this tour.
It was indeed a great full day's adventure.
Thank you Jay!
