Historical journey

Theresa_O, Sep 2026
The downstairs is full of very interesting things. When you go to the second floor, the second floor deals with slave trade and the slave ships that Mel Fisher found.

Today's the Day

If you're visiting on a cruise vacation it's a short walk from the cruise ship to the museum. It's a interesting and informative look into the salvage of ship wrecks off the South Florida coast from the 1400's on. As Mel Fisher would say every day "Today's the Day

Key West 2026 Hunt for Atocha coin for daughter

For more insightful view on history of Key West and Spanish gallons and gold and other products being shipped and then sank and then the discovery of treasure and Mel fishers journey of hunting and finding gold —snippet of facts and stories of the wreckers and families their sacrifices, they made in history and then the ones that come after to hunt and discover sunken treasures

Awesome

Everyone there was very helpful and knowledgeable. Did the tour with the audio which helped bring the experience to life. Would highly recommend as something to visit while in Key West.

Time filler only

Not the best museum, but does not take long to visit. More interesting watching YouTube clips on Mel Fisher.

Treasure!

Sara_W, Feb 2023
The exhibits were sequential and well displayed. We especially enjoyed seeing the coins, jewelry, plates and goblets, and bullion, of course. And learning of Mr. Fisher's determination to find the main treasure.

Enjoyed the history. Surprise by some of the stories of the Henrietta. Would recommend all to spend sometime and learn about the human spirit

The quest of a lifetime!

Just the story of Mel Fisher’s struggle to find gold and the results of his battle with the state of Florida over the $300,000,000.

This was amazingly...

This was amazingly wonderful museum. So much to see and read. Make sure you give yourselves time. I think all museums should have information at each item. That is what I enjoy the history

Bounty $$$!

A Treasure of Information

Cearnals-Mainers, May 2021
Very Interesting. (Happy they had chairs for my parents to sit every now and again). Having the actual items from the sea, to see, was amazing. The story was wonderful. So well defined and elaborate. The slave trade information was unnerving but very educational. Cuban missle crisis review was wildly informative. We enjoyed the museum immensely.

Wouldn’t recommend

I thought the staff wasn’t very friendly. Nobody smiles. The info was presented well. But bad vibes in there.

Interesting history of shipwrecks and treasure hunting around the Keys. Teachers and students would be especially interested in the artifacts and pictures.
