What To Expect

The Key West Aquarium is one of the oldest aquariums in Florida and one of the most popular attractions for people of all ages when visiting the area. It’s also home to the very creatures than can be found in the waters of Key West — sharks, turtles, stingrays, a wide variety of fish and much more.

The aquarium is renowned for its interactivity. The popular Touch Tank is a way for guests to get up close with some of the more familiar creatures that can be found in Key West’s waters. Many of these marine animals — like conchs, sea stars, slate pencil sea urchins, serpent sea stars, sea cucumbers, giant hermit crabs and horseshoe crabs — can be seen when kayaking or snorkeling.

Hop on one of the four daily tours and watch (and participate in) a shark feeding, learning more about one of humankind’s most feared apex predators in the process. Then come face to face with a juvenile nurse shark and touch its tail. At the Atlantic Shores Exhibit, feed some of the larger animals while discussing the variety of marine life in the exhibit — tropical and game fish, sharks and sea turtles in a 50,000-gallon tank. Other aquarium exhibits feature alligators, stingrays, jellyfish and more.

Aquarium Visit

Tammy_B, Jan 2026
Stay for the presentations. Aquarium is small, but the presentations make the experience. It was a fun experience. I also enjoyed seeing all the old photos on the upper wall of the aquarium over the years.

Pricey but worth it for the cause

Patricia_W, Jan 2026
The aquarium is nice, small, exhibits are pretty, seems well cared for. Outside exhibits were very limited and some under construction. Because of these factors the price was high. That said, it’s a non-profit dedicated to good work so I don’t mind supporting them.

The aquarium is small, but they do a good job with what they have. The staff were friendly and helpful. It wasn’t crowded when we were there so was easy to get a good view of presentation and ask questions. The presentations were 15-30 apart so you didn’t have to wait long. The morning presentations repeated again in afternoon, so since ticket is good all day (can leave and re-enter) you can catch a presentation later if needed. Only gave 4 stars because like most everything in Key West it is a little overly priced for the value in my opinion. However, I do recommend it especially on a rainy day since most presentations are indoors.

I have been to several aquariums. This is a very small. You can walk through less than 30 minutes. It’s a nice to visit if you’re under 10 years old. Teenage I wouldn’t recommend.

Turtles stole the show!!

Geliece_G, Jan 2025
The aquarium staff was amazing. The amount of knowledge was a sprinkle of humor was very impressive. It’s a small aquarium but packed with personality! I loved Spike and Lola!

Not happy!

Ashley_K, Sep 2024
I was not happy at all! I was expecting it to be bigger and hoping there was a gift shop and there was hardly anything to see and it smelled bad. And the turtle looked dead! The lady selling tickets had an attitude with me. Wish I never bought ticket's I hated it. I'm not happy.

Small aquarium

Kerstin_T, Aug 2024
Very small aquarium, only very few animals. You get through it very quickly as there isn't really much to see.

Eh.

Amy_M, Jul 2024
It was very small and wasn’t really worth the $20 admission fee. Hopefully they’ll add to it someday.

A must see place in key west

Nicole_P, Jul 2024
Well worth the price of admission. They do little shows with different animals all throughout the day. Wild sharks come up in their back porch area. Also, dogs welcome!! This is a must see place in Key West hands down.

Fun and informative

Layla_G, Jul 2024
The saff was friendly and super knowledgeable of all the sea creatures. I love the Earth watch center where it felt like we were looking into outer space .

Nice Little Aquarium

RICHARD_L, Jun 2024
The aquarium is small, but a fun place to visit and explore. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Great way to spend an afternoon in Key West

Tom_K, Jun 2024
The guide was very knowledgeable and gave excellent presentations. The aquarium is small but did have an interesting set of displays. The touch tank was great for little kids and the story about their turtle was most interesting.

Good small aquarium

Julie_R, Jun 2024
Liked the nurse shark pool and how they eat. Good location with it being downtown. Very informative talks with good information

We got to hear the speech about the animals this time and it was great. Would recommend going to see the different fish.

The aquarium

Susan_B, Jun 2023
I enjoyed the aquarium. It was time to feed the sharks but they weren't coming out from the water so that was a little disappointment.

Sucky aquarium

Susanne_R, Jun 2023
I could not pull up the tickets in my email. Had to purchase at the door . Was not worth the money. Felt sorry for the animals, very small tanks!

Fun place for all to enjoy. We saw a lot of nice fish. Learned a lot about the sea. We also were able to feed fish

Key West Aquarium

Allison_G, Dec 2022
The aquarium isn’t very big or extremely interactive. However, it is a good 1 hour activity for younger children to learn about marine life around Key West. My family enjoyed seeing the turtles, lobsters, and flounder. My personal favorite was seeing the pink shrimp. Admission is good over several days.

Not worth the money

Ruth_M, Nov 2022
Just a-lot smaller then we thought and not as much there as fir hands on experience as other aquariums we been to.

Something fishy

Ruth_S, Sep 2022
The aquarium was closed for renovation and we weren't notified about this. I had received a ticket confirmation for the date. This was unacceptable. We were so looking forward to visiting.

Response from Host, Oct 2022

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. The Aquarium did post the closing on our website.

Feeding the sharks is the best. But seeing another animals are good to see to. We went there for our honeymoon.

Kids were disappointed

Katarzyna_P, Aug 2021
Not worth the price you pay , the place is pretty dirty. It’s super small for like 15 walk plus another half is close.

It’s what you expect when you go to an aquarium. Some pretty cool sites, but nothing mind blowing. The kids enjoyed it
