Had to deal with a little rain, but the tour operator provides rain gear. We had four fishermen and on our 5 hour trip we caught 10 halibut, 12 pacific cod, and 2 rockfish. Captain Andrew is very personable and takes the fishing seriously. Could not ask for more on a cruise ship fishing trip.

Halibut early Sept

Met at the ship as advertised. Took a few minutes to gather all the cients up. A bit crazy for this part. Once at the marina, met Cpt Garret. He settled everything down. He knew what was needed and cleared up questions. Once on the boat, we took an hour run to the straight. We were lucky the seas were really nice today. Once on the spot, we had a halibut limitin short order. Then we pulled anchor and caught a limit of sea bass. At that point we were just about out of time and headed in. Had some paperwork to finish to areange shipping the catch. And done. Boat was a professional set up and safe. Overall, a good experience. Note: the halibut you target here are less than 36” long. We caught 5 28-30” halibut. Very good eaters. If you are looking for trophy sized fish, Seward is probably a better location.

Good guide. Signed up for Halibut fishing , but due to weather (wind) we couldn't fish the halibut water. Would have been nice to give us the option of cancelling and refunding our money. we

My dad and I had a great time with Captain Geoff and his daughter Grace. We had a beautiful day in Ketchikan which they said was rare. It was in the 70s and sunny. We caught halibut, cod and rockfish. Geoff was very knowledgeable and excited to get us fish.

Disappointed

We went out with another couple from a cruise line. Out of the 4 of us 2 fish were caught and it was not a halibut. The captain expressed he just come back from an illness. He got frustrated much of the time due to unable to find a good spot for fishing, other boats coming near us, or not able to get the boat settled with the anchor. He threw things in frustration and hit his own head on the boat. He expressed frustration at the lines getting tied up although he set them for us some of those times. When we came back with only 2 rockfish, the other boats with the same company came in with many halibut. This was our first time ever going out fishing in Alaksa although we have lived in AK since 2019. The whole experience was disappointing and most of all seeing the visible frustration from the captain made it worse. I continue to see all these pictures of great catches with this company and wonder why we did not have a great experience as well. The couple with us verbalize their disappointment as well wondering if we would get any of our money back.

Our guide Steve was so fun! We all caught halibut, dog sharks and a cool rock fish! I know fisherman don’t like the dog sharks but they were pretty cool to reel in !

Excellent Halibut fishing trip

We did the 5 hour Halibut trip. We fished with Captain Zane. This trip was phenomenal and Zane was an excellent captain. He was very patient and very enjoyable to fish with. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone!

We had a great time. Even though the fishing was a bit slower than usual (not peak season), Captain Chris worked hard and got us on fish. He knew a lot about the area and seemed to enjoy sharing a lot of great information about the area. We even got lucky and saw whales! We had several orcas come close to us. We would go again for sure!
