After hotel pickup in Healy or meeting at the Black Diamond Resort Co, your guide provides an introduction to the ATV operations and a safety briefing.
Get fitted with the provided gear, including helmet, safety goggles, gloves and rain gear as needed, then practice driving your Polaris ATV. Basic driving skills are required to handle the ATV, but no specific ATV experience is necessary.
When you're ready, follow your guide on an exciting off–road tour. If you are not comfortable driving, you can ride with your guide for an equally exhilarating ATV experience.
Travel along old coal mining trails and a dry creek bed where Athabascan (Native American) artifacts have been found. Stop to check out an old abandoned cabin, then continue through the wilderness with spectacular views of the Alaska Range and mountain scenery. Go high up on Black Diamond Peak for sweeping views of the entire Healy Valley and keep an eye out for wildlife.
Your tour includes a backcountry meal of fresh–baked biscuits and gravy, bacon, reindeer sausage, fresh fruit, home-style flapjacks, fresh scrambled eggs and more. During afternoon and evening tours, sink your teeth into mouth-watering ribs, chicken, steak and salmon fresh from the coastal waters of Alaska, plus baked beans and potato salad. Satisfy your sweet tooth with a delicious fruit cobbler for dessert. Juice, coffee, tea and hot chocolate accompany the meal, and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.
At the end of your meal, hop back on your ATV for the return journey. Your tour ends with return to your starting point at the end of three hours.

This is a Black Diamond trip (small print). At somepoint we had not clarified the ATV vs the side by side but they were able accommodate. We had awesome views, stopping a few times to just soak in scenery. Midway we stopped for a very nice meal with a lot of offerings. The meal was served by our guide.

What a great way to get out and about in nature. The guides did a great job coaching us, visiting, helping-Naomi and Marcel did an amazing job. They knew what they were talking about and had a very laid back approach. Meal was tasty too!

Buyer Beware - They will rip you off and refuse to make it right!
My family of 4 and I did the ATV and backcountry dinner through Viator with Black Diamond. First, let me say our guides, David and Andrew, top notch. They were great! Explained everything, gave back stories of the areas we visited, helped take photos, very polite and kind. The trail was fine, got in some good views, however......
We had 3 older people with our group of 7, who didnt want to go faster than 5 mph. We are middle aged with 2 teen boys, and let's just say I could have walked faster than we traveled on the trail with the ATVs.
But the real down fall here was, we got to dinner and there was basically nothing left. First off, they only had 6 scheduled, so they only "made" food for 6 even though there was 7 people. They didnt even have a place for her to sit, we had to create an extra spot on the edge of our table. The food portions were basically non-existent. They ran out of corn, ribs, chicken, and salmon. We all only got 1 rib each, 1 small piece of chicken (one of us only got a single chicken leg) and we had to cut 1 piece of salmon into 7 pieces for all of us to have a bite. The food was good, it just wasn't there to feed us. Paying over $700 (with tip) for an experience that included dinner, but dinner wasn't really there and my family left hungry, that isn't right.
I requested a partial refund since we didnt get dinner as described in the booking and they refused and didnt offer an apology. Shameful to take people's money and not give them what they paid for and what you advertised. Stay away and go with another company.

Dear Mr. Essick,
Thank you so much for the feedback. You have left several reviews, and messages so I will try to address them all. First of all, a guest’s safety is critical to us, and sometimes a guest doesn’t feel comfortable going as fast as other guests but we generally wouldn’t know that until the tour has kicked off. Our speeds on tours can range but it always based on the comfort level of all guests on that tour.
Secondly, the guest you mention that didn’t have a seat when you arrived. That guest was actually on another tour without a meal. She asked while on tour if she could please eat so we quickly adjusted, she was given a seat and dined with your group. The guest was extremely thankful for the meal and our quick reaction to the change.
Our tour meals are family style, not a full-service buffet. It is also located in the middle of the woods at a pavilion and it is not a full restaurant. We do bring enough food out there with some extras to accommodate any extra tours. Guests also do ask for additional items, which someone on your tour did, in fact they asked and received extra potato salad, extra pasta salad, extra corn and extra chicken. In your refund request, you mentioned that you did not receive steak, we actually have never served steak at the pavilion. My full management team was on site that night so I would have thought that if you were that disappointed with it, why did you not ask to speak to anyone? We do always like to try to correct a mistake but if we don’t know about an issue and you leave property you didn’t give us a chance to fix it. Your refund request was for half of your tour amount, if you look at the price difference between your tour and the tour without a meal the difference is $10 per person.
Lastly, you sent us the following message:

FYI, I am relentless with reviews. It is one thing if your company made a mistake and didnt bring enough food for everyone, but to basically not feed people and then refuse to make it right is jist wrong, and I will make sure I tell everyone about it. You are going to lose more in business than if you wpuld have just owned up to the mistake and provide a half refund for the food not provided. I have 2 teen boys and none of is were basically feed and left hungry. Poor company. Relentless.
I am sorry that you did not enjoy your tour with us and if you would have asked to talk with any of my Managers we possibly would have been able to help correct the situation. Like I stated above and you acknowledge above you were served food, maybe just not the portion sizes you would have liked or were expecting. We appreciate your feedback and understand that you will not recommend us, that is your right to do so. While we are sorry that you did not enjoy every part of your tour but we hope that you have better luck with the rest of your Alaskan vacation.

We had a great time on this adventure! Daniel and Abay did a wonderful job taking care of us. Dan was funny and informative. Food was good too!

Great experience. The guides, Shane and Mar, were friendly and experienced. I had issues with finding my comfort zone on ATV and they immediately switched me to a side by side - enjoyed that so much more! Shane knows the terrain well and we felt safe at all times while having a great time. Highly, recommend. The lunch was delicious as well.

The whole experience was top notch! Such a great crew from beginning to end. We had Dani and she was excellent. Such cool views, delicious meal in a remote area, and cool knowledge about the surrounding area. Highly recommend!

The views of the Denali wilderness was outstanding. The tour was well organized, with good guides, equipments and instructions. The family style dinner was tasty and provided an enjoyable opportunity to meet others on the tour.

We own ATVs but following our guide Sage over hill and dale in Denali was the best!!!!
We expected a pedestrian pace on groomed trails but we were thrilled to be racing through the forest and streams.

Our guides were great and very knowledgeable. We could tell they were wanting us to have fun and enjoy the adventure in Alaska. Personally, the meal was “meh” had some good items and some not so great items, but a great time regardless. It was a bit too slow of a ride for us - never really went over 10mph which is hard to do when you are in a big queue with other riders. Great atmosphere and fun way to experience trails in Alaska.

We had the BEST time on this excursion!! The tour guides were fun and hilarious without sacrificing safety, the food was phenomenal, the equipment was well-maintained, and the sights were unreal. Thank you to our guides Jonathan and Matt (I might have spelled that wrong) as well as Danny who gave us the beginning spiel. Highly recommend this company!!
Sara_S, Jul 2024
Staff was friendly but not an organized business. They assumed we were going to EACH ride a 4 wheeler, rather than the side by side we wanted. I don't recall them asking prior to our arrival which would have been nice.
The meal was fabulous!!

Jonathan was a great guide, and made sure that everyone had an enjoyable tour. The views were amazing, lunch was great, and the trails were a lot of fun. Would definitely recommend.

Megan and Abigail were our tour guides. They were so nice and knowledgeable. We changed our atv to a side by side last minute and they accommodated us right away. On our way back from dinner we saw a moose eating! Highly recommend this tour. Our transportation guide was even super knowledgeable and you could tell he loves his job!
Justin_C, Aug 2023
The views and splashing through the water and dinner. Would definitely recommend this tour 10 out of 10. Our guide Martin was the best!

We had a great experience using Blackdiamond for our ATV adventure. They picked us up and dropped us off right on schedule at our hotel, all staff were friendly and helpful, and the ATV ride was the perfect amount of fun and adventure. We were given the choice between single ATVs or 2 person side by side. Both are easy to learn to ride - no experience necessary. Helmets are provided for safety but wear clothes you are prepared to get dusty, muddy, wet, etc depending on the weather. We had a beautiful sunny day so we were very dusty but our guide also took us through a creek bed where we splashed through some water. Also, bring your appetite! When they say "back country dining" , they mean a 3 course meal! Halfway through the trails, we stopped at a cabin where servers brought us plates and plates of coleslaw, pasta and potato salad, chicken, ribs, stew, salmon and pie for dessert. Wyatt was a great guide and I would definitely recommend this excursion if you're up for some adventure.

Excellent staff and excellent service would recommend had a great day out. The food is also fantastic.

The food was amazing, the staff was friendly. My parents are uncomfortable driving open door vehicles, yet they felt welcomed.

This is a great way to see the back country of the Denali area! We rode on ATVs through wooded areas leading to spectacular views! Our guides, Patch and Robert, were attentive and informative! Patch somehow made information on area history and current state engaging and amusing! We made several stops for views, explorations, and we were fortunate enough to find a moose on the loop back!
The dinner was very good also! I don’t eat meat or dairy but there were great options presented that fit my diet, including a great veggie chili!
Shane_L, Jun 2023
4-wheeling through the stream to see more countryside. Evan, our guide, did a great job. We covered a lot of ground because he was willing to travel at a speed we wanted and could handle. It was a great day!

Amazing food, I will do again if I'm back to alaska. . I did a lot of things in Alaska and this was the only thing I'm doing a review on
Michael_M, Aug 2022
We completely enjoyed this adventure. All the crew were great but Jack and Bobby were our guides and they were fantastic!!! Thank y'all for great memories.
Juli_P, Aug 2022
Awesome tour guides and views. The meal option was delicious and highly recommended. (The only annoying thing is adding a minimum characters for the is review, will not leave a review with Viator again)

This was a great trip! My husband and I were the only ones doing back country ATV with dinner so we had our own guide Damien. For us, the ATV tour was exciting and challenging. Several experienced ATV riders thought the views were amazing, but the ride was tame. Damien was a great guide, he saw I was struggling with the ATV but my husband was doing fine. He switched out his side by side for my ATV and we went roaring off! He was full of information about Alaska and made the trip thrilling.
The barbecue dinner was delicious! We rode the ATV’s thru the trails to a large cabin (but small building). There we found picnic tables set for the correct number of guests in your party. Damien and the staff ensured we had plenty to eat and drink. We started with cornbread, potato salad, pasta salad and cole slaw, then chili and corn on the cob (fresh!). Then Damien brought out grilled bbq chicken with a garlic Parmesan, falling off the bone spare ribs and then sock eyes salmon! We were asked several times if there were more. Then we rode back. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this!
Perry_G, Jun 2022
The ATVs were really fun, and our guide was great! We saw some beautiful scenery but no animals!
The dinner was really good and the staff very friendly. My only negative was in the safety presentation. It really didn’t have anything to do with the ATVs we were riding and we got no instruction on how to manage the ruts in the road! At 100% it was my first time on an ATV I could’ve used a little guidance !
wendy_J, Nov 2021
We had an amazing time! The trip was a blast and highly worth it. One of the participants in the group was having difficulties with having never been on a ATV. The guides where incredibly helpful accommodating and kept everyone safe at their comfort level. Food was also great!
