It’s very interactive, multiple opportunities for pictures and to learn about these brutal torture techniques. It’s a perfect date for the morbidly curious.
David_D, Feb 2026
Self guided and just reading the description plaques was the best, the audio guide was too long and hard to follow. The ghost hunting was disappointing as it was distracting from the actual tour.
melia_w, Nov 2025
It was a great experience. The items are mainly able to be used for photos. Staff was friendly. The bathroom signs are on the ceilings FYI 😆
Jennifer_G, Nov 2025
Super interesting facts brought to you in a wonderfully interactive way. Loved the visual displays with the interactive audio and signs.

Very dark, yet informative. If you want to be enlightened about the disproportionate punishments meted out on humans by those in power, this is a thought-provoking yet scary museum. The displays were realistic, and the audio descriptions detailed.

It is good, not quite worth it for the self guided tour. Bring headphones if you want to be able to hear about what you want to learn about through an ap on your phone.

Although the tour was somewhat short and over priced, we enjoyed the exhibits and history. Overall, it’s worth going nuts make sure you download there app and bring earbuds to listen. Signs are also displayed but if crowded hard to read….. they do slow you to circle through as you wish.

Much smaller than I thought it would be. Very busy and not a lot of space.
It was interesting but not worth the money..

For the subject matter, this museum was well done. It was quite an education in human cruelty. I highly recommend a visit.

Both reading and audio guide available I did both just made sure to look at the number to coinside with the exhibit for the audio gyuide

The museum was my teen nephew's choice. He really liked it. It's interactive, you learn, and yet it's fun. Definitely do the ghost hunting!

There is a lot to see and interact with. Be mindful that lighting is very dim when you enter. However, this is unlike any traditional museum I have been to--aquarium, history, etc. I definitely recommend it.

The entire process of ordering tickets, gaining admission and walking through the museum came off without a hitch. The museum has an excellent collection of torture artifacts. Also, many exhibits are hands on.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this museum. I went because by daughter wanted to see it. Very informative audio tour. You go at your own pace.

Very enlightening museum with a well done audio tour. We are very fortunate to be in more civilized times!

I spent almost 3 hours there and I would go back again. If you’re into history and/or gore, it’s a must see

I'll tell you what. It definitely gave me the creeps. You can actually touch everything. You can touch the devices. You can touch the dummies. Of course be respectful with the touching. Don't get crazy with your hands. I liked listening to the stories for each one. The reason it's not a 5 start rating is because I wanted to play the interactive game. I downloaded the app through the QR code and it just wasn't working.

If you're looking for something odd, bizarre, and unique this is a very small intimate but extremely detailed museum of torture macabre. I went a few days before Halloween and it was icing on the cake for me. Perfect for a date where the two of you are both weird, but in a good way.. lol
Colleen_H, Aug 2024
It was easy to find, interactive and accurate not for the faint of heart and strong stomach it does show actual torture practices of Medevile times
I am looking forward to watching it grow

What a unique museum in the city of Chicago. Fun yet gruesome experience. Thanks for a great adventure.
Courtney_M, Apr 2024
Loved it so much I went back the next day. Mostly it was because I realized I hadn’t used the ghost hunting app they had to its full potential and wanted to try again. But I also realized on my second visit I had missed a few things because I’d been distracted by using the ghost hunting app. So I took time the second visit to lift, pull and turn some of the displays that I hadn’t before. It’s a super interesting museum that had me scratching my head about all the ways we’ve found to punish each other over the centuries, and all the devices we’ve created to do it.

This was a fun and interactive experience. Interesting to learn about the different means of torture and why…. Glad to live in this century!
Lesa_W, Mar 2024
It was an eye-opening experience to see some of the gruesome torture devices! Crazy that these things were actually used on people in midieval times.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Lesa, thank you for your great review! We are happy that you found the visit to the museum eye-opening!
Phillip_A, Nov 2023
It was okay, but kind of lame. The audio for the self guided tour was trying to sound sinster and kept giving unnecessary backstory to specific victims. I think it would have been much better if it just explained the how the torture worked and the types of people that were subjected to it and left it at that. Maybe I would have liked it better in high school, but not any older. The staff seemed really nice though.
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Philip, thank you for the feedback!
We are happy that our staff could enhance your experience.
It's essential for us to provide an engaging and interactive experience for our visitors, which is why some of the information about our displays may seem simplified. However, please rest assured that all the information we provide is accurate. We understand your preference for a more straightforward explanation of how the characters work, but many of our visitors have expressed their enjoyment of the personalized stories associated with the exhibits.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!

Very interesting museum. This is one place I had booked before my hotel and was not disappointed. Really enjoyed it despite the macabre subject of the museum. Very friendly staff. Loved how everything was set up and loved there was a virtual tour and ghost hunting app you could do along with your visit. 10/10.
victoria_m, Jun 2023
They have little signs that tell you pull or turn. You can turn and pull some of the things to see how they would work
HOPE_B, Apr 2023
Very interesting just a little too dark so some was a bit hard to see. I enjoyed it. Wouldn't recommend for children
Veronica_A, Sep 2022
Super cool! Was a tiny bit gore-y but also super informative. Our trip revolved around museums and this one was probably the most fun! Check it out if you’re ever DT!
Lisa_S, Apr 2022
