Cxld my tour when everyone else was operating

Very displeased with my experience. I booked St Peter’s basilica (Rome) tour for my trip weeks upon weeks in advance. I’m finally in Rome and the night before I get a message stating my tour has been cancelled due to emergency shutdown of the basilica by church officials. Full refund to be given. With the popes health; this was alarming. I checked the basilica webpage and nothing mentioned of closure and they were selling their own tickets. I checked other tour groups and they still had availability for my date. I was confused. I initiated WhatsApp chat with Viator and explain my discovery. They ignored it and said. It’s closed we give refund. The end. Not even an opportunity to check/book another date or asked how long I would be in Rome for. Or maybe try another experience I decided to book with GetYourGuide for the EXCAT tour and had an amazing experience. The church was not closed and no one knew what I was talking about when inquired. The church was extremely busy I once again texted Viator from inside the church to say it was open…. They responded “oh they just reopened it”. I bet. Then why wouldn’t I be messaged to advise and ask if I would still like the tour??? Very disappointed how this was handled. I won’t be recommending or booking further experiences with Viator.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. The closure was dictated by church management and was beyond our control. Unfortunately, we were informed of the reopening only after 9:00 AM the next day, after cancellations had already been processed. We understand your frustration and appreciate your feedback.
