This was a good tour but with the crowds and the heat we stopped a lot which made it difficult to stick with it. The guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. Could’ve been a little more energetic but with the heat we were all dragging. Overall I was pleased with this tour. The Coliseum was just amazing!

We did this Underground Tour with Partner and friends, so hard to get tickets and very expensive. Large group so it was hard to get all the commentry. Still worthwhile and pleased we did it

Loved that it was a very small group but we were hurried. We were told we’d get a chance to take pictures later but we didn’t get a chance. Tour was supposed to be hour 30 but we were out in 1 hour. It was a lot of money to not get the full length of time.

Not only is it amazing to see lit up at night, but they allow a very limited number of groups in at night, so it is likely the least busy you will see it! Our guide was knowledgeable and made the tour really engaging with her storytelling!

Extremely dissatisfied in the tour and the guide. The tour guide kept using a binder of photos to talk and educate about the Colosseum rather than guiding the group through the actual venue. He spent a good 45 minutes keeping the group away from any viewing sites going through his binder and quizzing the group on facts about the history of the Colosseum. Then we weren’t able only taken to 2 viewing points giving us 5 minutes to take a quick picture and then forcing the group to move on and go back to his binder for explanation. Very disappointing.

This tour advertised we would go to the arena floor. This was the key reason for selecting it and paying what we did. However when we got to the end the guide advised there must be confusion or a mistake by the operator as it is not included. All 3 couples on the tour were equally frustrated as it seems we were tricked. Upon requesting a refund I was given 15% back as a "gesture of good will". This is the last time I book with Viator.
The actual guide himself was fine. Spoke fast and with a strong accent but that we could understand still.

2. Colosseum Night Tour (With Underground & Arena Floor): This exclusive tour includes underground tunnels, chambers, pits, and access to the reconstructed arena floor—reserved for a limited number of visitors.
Based on our records, your booking was for the Evening Tour (No UG), which does not include arena floor access. The description you copied in your review matches the With Underground option, which is a separate, higher-priced tour.
We would never intentionally mislead our guests, and we take claims of false advertising very seriously. As others said its a scam. Its not at night. Its not private. You do not go the arena floor or underground. You just overpay for standard access. There's still thousands of people there in broad daylight. I could tell by the guides face when I said something that it happens all the time. Viator did a partial refund. Its not about the money. You took something that I was providing for my family and clearly do it every day to other families.

Well, it's summer, so it is not nighttime at 5pm. Colosseum closes at 6. There isn't enough time to get the full experience. Meeting time was 445. Guide didn't show up until 530. Other tours offer Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Forum for way less money. Communication started out good but then messages did not get communicated. 2 of us couldn't make it due to illness and the 2 that made it were rushed. They were the 2 most excited for the tour. Such a huge disappointment.

Night tour is the way to go. It’s much cooler and the crowd is nonexistent. Moraro did an amazing job guiding us step by step through the colosseum. He helped take our pictures at all the right spots. The operators communication was great so we found the meet up point easily. We felt like it was just us touring the colosseum.

The tour guide was WONDERFUL, but the tour we purchased included the Arena Floor and when we arrived, the tour company gave us tickets for the Colosseum without the arena floor. When I asked they were very nice and immediately called someone to look into it. The tour company said Viator didn’t send the right information to them, so they didn’t buy us the right ticket. There was nothing they could do at that time, but they offered us some money back. I’ll confirm I received it when I return home.

Our tour guide, Sandro, was very knowledgeable, personable and very conscious of counting and keeping the group together. My only warning is there are many step steps to the second level. There is an elevator for those who need assistance. Highly recommended.

SCAM! We were sold a coliseum tour at night with Arena floor access. It was was supposed to also be two hours. Instead we started 45 min late, no arena floor access at all, and the tour lasted an hour. The tour operator confirmed in writing prior to the tour we would get arena floor access and we still didn’t get it. No refund offered. Viator doesn’t help either. Don’t waste your money.
I’ve booked tours on Viator before and had a great experience. This operator is a bait and switch operation so beware and stay away!

However, the group collectively decided to end the tour early inside the Colosseum due to tiredness. Your guide specifically noted that your family was happy with the experience and even gave him a tip.
3. Refund – despite the shortened tour being at the group's request, we offered and processed a 50% partial refund of your total tour price as a gesture of goodwill – far more than the €6 ticket error.
4. Start time – we have reviewed our records and confirmed that your tour started on time. We are unsure why this was mentioned in your review.

We took the Colosseum at Night Tour on June 13, 2026, and it was one of the highlights of our time in Rome. Our guide, Giovanni, was absolutely spectacular. His knowledge of Roman history was impressive, but what really stood out was his ability to bring the stories, people, and events of ancient Rome to life in a way that was both engaging and memorable.
Seeing the Colosseum illuminated at night added a completely different atmosphere and made the experience feel even more special. I walked away with a much deeper understanding of the history and significance of this incredible landmark.

The experience was amazing! Our guide had so much information and excitement around the topic it was non stop and unrehearsed. We asked questions - he went with it and updated his general itinerary. Changed the description of event after booking to bot include underground. The underground is only open for part of the year and the tickets are first come, first serve. Just buy your ticket on site for 22€ p/p. These people are scammers. I had to issue a charge back because neither company or viator was interested in correcting the issue. SCAM. Tour date: Thursday, June 4, 2026
Time: 5:00 PM
At the time of booking, the product description explicitly said that the underground (hypogeum) is not included in the evening tour.
2. You Asked to Add Underground – We Said No and Offered Cancellation
After booking, you requested that we add underground access to your tour.
We replied clearly and in writing (in our first and second communications) that:
Underground access is not available for this evening tour.
If you were not satisfied with the tour as booked, you could request a cancellation at that time for a full refund (since it was far outside the 7‑day window).
You never replied. You did not cancel. You did not ask for a refund at that time. You simply ignored our offer to cancel.
3. Our Repeated Follow‑ups – All Ignored
March 13, 2026 (12:33 AM) – Confirmation email with details, repeating that underground is not included and offering assistance.

4. Your Refund Request – One Day Before the Tour
On June 3, 2026 – just one day before the scheduled tour – you suddenly asked for a full refund. Your reason? Your travel plans had changed. Not because of anything we did wrong – because your personal schedule changed.
Our refund policy, which you agreed to at booking, states clearly: no refunds for cancellations within 7 days of the tour. We politely declined your refund request.
5. Your False Claim to Viator
After we declined your refund, you went to Viator and lied, claiming that:
You had originally booked a 9:00 PM tour
We changed your time to 5:00 PM without your consent
We asked you to provide any proof of a 9:00 PM booking – a screenshot, an email, anything. You could not provide any proof because no such booking ever existed. Our records show only the 5:00 PM booking you made yourself.
Once your lie was exposed, you posted this negative review calling us scammers.
6. The Same Tour – 20 Other Happy Customers
On June 4, 2026 at 5:00 PM, the tour ran as scheduled with 20 other guests besides you. They all arrived on time, enjoyed the evening, and several have left 5‑star reviews on Viator and TripAdvisor for that exact date and time. You can read their reviews publicly.
If we were scammers, why did 20 other people have a great experience? The only difference: they showed up as booked, and you did not – then you lied to try to force a refund.
7. Your Chargeback
You mentioned issuing a chargeback. We welcome that process. We have already compiled all documentation for our bank and Viator:
Your booking confirmation showing 5:00 PM
Your request to add underground (we said no)
Our offer to cancel (you ignored it)
Our emails from March 13 and May 22
Our WhatsApp message from June 3

We are confident the bank will rule in our favor. We delivered exactly what you booked – a 5:00 PM Colosseum evening tour. You changed your travel plans and tried to get a refund through dishonesty.

You chose to stay silent. Then, one day before the tour, you asked for a refund because your plans changed – and when we followed our clear policy, you lied to Viator and left a false review.

Our guide was so knowledgeable about the history of Rome and the colosseum. We could have listened to him for hours. We were so hungry along the tour that he brought us to a small pizza shop for pizza to go. What an extra bonus. We would definitely recommend him for any of the tours in Rome.
