Awful experience, complete waste of money. Did not get services/activities offered. No Limoncello tasting, no attendant/no guide Day 1, no alternatives given for Capri (not offered during the off season), no transportation or information to dinners offered, logistics were a nightmare.
Arrived at the hotel at 10 AM and told we couldn’t check in till 3. The hotel had to offer us assistance to fix the accommodation. No assistance in getting to the dinner offered (told to show up with a voucher). We had to figure out everything on our own and were left largely abandoned in a strange city with no help.
When we arrived day 1 and asked the guide who drove us there for assistance, she repeatedly had to call the office and kept saying “I don’t know, you know as much as I do” which is crazy from a tour guide. She did call the office repeatedly to try to fix our issues or answer our questions, but it largely went in circles.
Tour company told us to call Viator. Was on the phone with Viator over an hour. They kept saying we needed to call the tour company, saying “their site needs to be updated”. Viator kept saying “you need to call the tour company, we get our information from them”.
There are no alternatives offered for Capri (not offered during the off season). No assistance in arranging other activities or alternatives when we asked.
In the end, very little got resolved. No one was able to help. We were left abandoned in a strange city. We had to spend hours solving logistical problems. Some information is blatantly wrong. Some information is very misleading. Some things are aren’t exactly wrong but it’s not clear of falls into “lies of omission”.
In the end we largely overpaid for and very sub oar experience.

Hotel pick-up was by van who then takes you to the bus. This was not clearly explained by tour operator, so a little confusing at the start as all the driver said was tour to Pompeii but I saw our names on his list so we went with him. We stayed at the hotel Grand Vesuvius which was very nice with great views. A little ways out of town but they have a free shuttle to Sorrento. Our room was hot though as they turn off A/C in Oct. Meals were good, but drinks not included. Excursions were great to Capri and Pompeii. The hotel offered an optional tour to Postano Amalfi coast by van but they wanted 70 euros per person. Not worth it at all. We took the Sati city bus for 2.40 per person from the train station which is 6 minutes walk from where the shuttle drops you off. The line up for the bus was very long but a taxi driver who could hold 8 people offered a ride back for 15 euros each. We joined others and did that. So total for the 2 of us 34.80 euros to visit Postano/Amalfi coast instead of the 140 euros the hotel wanted.

This was a fantastic 3-day excursion to Sorrento, including a day on Capri Island. Everything about this trip was fully organized, including the transfers from hotels to activities. The tour operator was Carrani Tours, and it was a very professional organization. There was plenty of time in Sorrento, the day on Capri was lovely, and the stop in Pompei was fascinating. If you are looking for an excursion to the Amalfi Coast, this is it!

This trip was absolutely amazing! So well organized. The guides were very informative and Sasha made us feel as if we had gone back in time and were actually living in the Pompeii ruins in ancient times. The views were spectacular! I recommend 100%!

Wonder trip. Great to be at front of lines. Hotel first class. Hotel restaurant great dining experience
Kate_A, Jul 2024
This tour was fantastic but we had GREAT customer service. One party member left clothes in a hotel in Sorrento. The agency picked up the clothes for us and then shipped them back to the U.S. (we happily paid for the shipping) for us. They went above and beyond their duty to help us retrieve lost items. We greatly appreciate this service! We highly recommend this company and tour!
Kate_A, Jun 2024
This tour was amazing! The tour guide for Pompeii was wonderful and highly knowledgeable. We learned a lot. I loved the places we visited and the hotel accommodations were fantastic! The tour guides were great and the food was amazing! I highly recommend this tour.

All staff were kind and kept in touch throughout the tour. Would be nice to include a little more of Naples in this tour. The restaurant stop for lunch was changed to a different one as we were arriving in the area. The pizza wasn't that great, at least not the one me and my friend chose. The tour in Capri felt a little rushed. We didn't get to see much at all. We had more time on Anacapri. We were lucky to get into the Blue Grotto with the weather being a little rainy and windy. The hotel in Sorrento was amazing and the breakfast included was so good. We had time in Sorrento to explore a little and shop. All in all, we had a great tour and I would recommend it to anyone who asked about it.
Christine_l, Sep 2023
I especially liked the commentary of the bus guide from Rome to Pompeii as it was interesting and had humour. Pompeii itself was amazing. The blue grotto was spectacular as was the Capri village tour. The Capri guide was very helpful.
Amy_M, Sep 2023
The tour ran very smoothly from the time they picked us up until we switched buses in Pompei. It was a little confusing at that transition, but it all worked out and everything else went well. My husband and I enjoyed the trip.
Mary_G, Jun 2023
This part of Italy is beautiful. But the tour company is absolutely unreliable. You are traded off like cattle between different guides and modes of transportation without anyone telling you what the plan is or what to expect. One day we were left behind. The Tour company claimed they called out for us. We were there early to catch the bus and I even asked bus drivers if they were our tour and everyone said no. They give you a list of emergency numbers, NONE of which work or are accurate. In fact that day I called the coordinator 20 times and to date NEVER heard back from her. This is the person who specifically said call me if you have any issues. I ended up spending $135 additional for something I had already paid for. By the way don't expect to get anything back if that does happen because no one will take responsibility. On the last day we booked a private tour, that was a complete joke and frankly scary. Because of the shambles of the tour the day before we had asked about the private tour, i.e. who was taking us etc. On the day of, the person who was suppose to be our guide was 40 minutes late. We get in the car and when I asked questions the guide just sang to us and didn't answer anything...seriously sang to us! Then he took us to see a terrace, that turned out to be his and then told us quickly that another person was taking us. This happened quickly and without any explanation. Keep in mind we were two women traveling on this tour on our own. To say that this was uncomfortable is an understatement. My daughter and I even thought of saying we were feeling ill and asking to turn back. The second person ended up being very nice,. However we had requested an English tour. He did not speak English. Which given the total weirdness of the situation would have made us feel comfortable if we could have had a better explanation of what was occurring.
This is sad because the area is beautiful, but we were so stressed the entire time because you could not depend on the tour company to pick you up, explain the plan for the day, pick up the phone if you needed help, etc.
The Hotel in Serrento was the beautiful. This is the only reason I am giving this tour a 2.
If you take this tour be prepared to have issues. As an FYi we met at least two more groups of families traveling who had VERY similar issues. For example one couple had documentation tha the bus would pick them up at 745. The bus came for them at 7. When they told the driver that their documents said 745, the driver was not understanding or cared.

Dear customer,
we deeply apologize for the negative experience you had with our tour company during your visit to Southern Italy. We understand that the lack of reliability, communication, and organization you encountered had a significant impact on your overall enjoyment and caused undue stress.
We take your feedback seriously and are actively investigating the issues you raised to identify the root causes and prevent them from recurring in the future. We acknowledge that the lack of clear communication regarding the itinerary, unreliable emergency numbers, and unresponsive coordinators contributed to your frustration and inconvenience.
Regarding the private tour, we sincerely apologize for the late arrival of the guide and the lack of proper explanations and language support. This is not the level of service we strive to provide, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests, especially those traveling alone.
We are committed to resolving these issues and improving our services. Your feedback serves as an important reminder of the areas where we need to focus on improvement, particularly in terms of communication, reliability, and customer support.
If there is anything we can do to make amends or assist you further, please do not hesitate to reach out to our customer service team.

Beautiful cities, full of history, very nice people, and beautiful landscapes.
The guides were also wonderful, telling the history of the places in a very interesting and engaging way.
Stanley_N, Apr 2023
Great tour with many activities and professional tour guides. Lunch in Pompeii could be better with food and services. Overall a very good experience for us. Did appointed with your advertising of Amalfi coast. We ended up paying extra for the trip to Amalfi. It could be viewed as mid-advertising here.

Best hotel room, good quality customer services. Great place to visit : Pompeii, Sorrento. Would recommend Alex and Alessia the tour guides and the shuttles driver from grand hotel Aminta. He is extremely excellent driver as fast as I know.
Martin_B, Oct 2022
Certainly Pompei, the guide, the views, Capri, Sorrento, the food and coffee, the weather and the blue lagoon
Bob_B, Oct 2022
Hotel accommodations were excellent. Bus and ferry transportation was beautifully managed. Guides were thoughtful and courteous
John_P, Oct 2022
Trip was generally good, guides were excellent and amazing in their ability to keep track of everything
Ashley_H, Aug 2022
This tour was a bit of a hit and miss for me: the first thing to note is the company can do a much better job of providing a detailed day to day itinerary so guests can know how to pack, dress etc. The Pompei walking tour was hot and long, the blue grotto had us on a boat for more than an hour, only to go in for a few minutes and then be harassed for a tip by our tour guide.and Capri is rather short and the beach is underwhelming. This is not the tour for you if you wish to linger/ explore these areas. On our departure date, check-in was pretty unorganized and there were many parts to the day that were a bit unclear. As for the food, please note that the lunch provided is rather paltry ( think small iceberg salad and choice of pizza or simple pasta) no drinks are included not even water. At the hotel, dinner was a bit better but again drinks are extra. As for the hotel, these are not 4 star by USA standards: my room had two double beds pushed together(typical in Europe) but I was thankful that my hotel was located in a bustling part of Sorrento. Given how busy this region is in the summer as well as the influx of travelers, most pickup and drop offs ran behind and were at times a bit chaotic. You should definitely do your research to see if you could put this same tour/trip together booking your own accommodations and taking trains(much faster than the alloted bus accommodations) at a cheaper price.

Great trip to Pompei and Sorrento, although the pizza lunch near Pompei was very poor. Also - be warned if you do the Blue Grotto trip and you get motion sickness, take a Dramamine pill before as the boat tosses you around A LOT.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Dear Patrick, we appreciate your comments and advice for the other community members, sure they will treasure it! On our side, we are sorry for the quality of the pizza near Pompeii, we'll take a note and pass your feedback to our Product Department for an audit.

The staff that was responsible for moving us around was attentive and organized. The stop in Naples could have been skipped and the hotel in Sorrento wasn’t so great. But otherwise a great few days spent on the coast.

Dear Nancy, thanks for reviewing the 3-day Pompeii, Sorrenti and Capri tour organized by Gray Line Rome, your 5 stars mean a lot. It's also interesting what you said about the hotel in Sorrento, we're going to inform our Hotel Contract Manager. Sorry it didn't meet the expectations! Best regards, Gray Line Rome Reviews Team

Every day was a new and different experience. Our guides were knowledgeable and personable. Pompeii included a great lunch and many amazing things to see. Capri was an all day experience. We were surprised by all of the places we went. So beautiful! Our guide Sascha was witty and an excellent guide.

Dear Guest,
it's great to hear that your 3-Day South Italy Tour from Rome was a success thanks to Sascha, one of our most reviewed guides. He was an added value and it's no surprise! Not only do we aim to bring you South of Italy's sights in an affordable and easy way but also we want you to spend quality time in a funny and entertaining way, so we're delighted when we read that the guide actually hits the target.
Thanks and regards,

We loved touring Capri with Sasha, he was very informative and made sure we maximized our time on the island. Our hotel in Sorrento was fantastic, it was very clean and in the best location possible. Pompei was amazing, much larger then we realized. Only downside was the long drive
Noreen W, Oct 2019
Pompeii was awesome, Sorrento and Capri were beautiful. The guides were knowledgeable and informative. Accommodation in Sorrento was luxury. The only upsetting moment was when my husband and I (in our 70's) told one of the guides that after our exhausting tour of Pompeii that we didn't think we could manage the trip to Capri the next day. She had a meltdown and suggested that our trip could not continue if we did not go. Was she going to abandon us in the middle of Sorrento at 6pm?. We agreed to go to Capri on the third day before heading back to Rome. She could have been more caring rather than threatening.
Kathy P, Oct 2019
We enjoyed the places we went. Sorrento hotel was right on the water with beautiful views and very good food. We made it to the Blue Grotto and it was lovely. We paid extra for the tour of the Amalfi Coast with a personal driver and it was worth it....such a amazing coastline. What was not enjoyed about this trip is that they keep switching you to different buses with different guides and none of them make it clear about what you were doing next. We had a very bad experience with the ferry coming back from Capri...it was over an hour late and we waited in a crowd that nearly paniced and caused a very dangerous stampede. It was a very scary situation since we had no guide close by to assure us. This would be a good trip if they would give you one guide the whole time. The jumping around from bus to bus and different guides wastes so much time. It would also help if we had a written schedule with information about each day. Guides left you guessing and were not clear.
Response from Host, Nov 2019
Dear Kathy, sorry for the late reply, we just saw your review and we thank you for it. It's a great contribution and is going to be used as a benchmark for future internal audits. Your feedback will be shared with our team of local tour leaders and guides in order for them to be more solid in terms of communication and assistance during bus switches. Thanks and regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team

This part of Italy is a much see, filled with beauty and uniqueness.
The Tour Group needs to work on logistics as clients time was eaten up by 4 vehicle changes on the first day and 3 tour guide changes. Day 2 was fantastic and made possible by the well organized and information filled guide, Satcha. Day 3 again had 4 vehicle changes. Most pickups were late and the transfer of vehicles involved moving people and luggage which was a long process. We added a tour to the Amalfie coast on day 3 instead of just free time and was glad we did because of the beauty of the area but again the tour group missed the mark on planning. We had 10 people elect to go so they sent a van and a car to take us. The 9 passenger van had 8 adult tourist and the driver who spoke no English and the journey across the narrow and switch back roads made it tight seating and hard for viewing. We understand the original driver got sick and the replacement tried hard to communicate with a bunch of tourists who spoke little Italian. Non the less I would not have skipped it.
Response from Host, Sep 2019
Dear Guest, we're very grateful for this honest review, first of all, we're happy you liked the places you visited: Sorrento and Amalfi are gems not to be missed. That said, thank you for your feedback as well, which directs our attention to some logistics we sure need to optimize in order to provide an impeccable guest experience and make every aspect of the tour as smooth as possible. We hope to see you soon and best regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team

Excellent tour. Guides all super and friendly and informative. Generally well organized. One must stick to the group or you may miss out. Hotels very nice and food provided is good. You can upgrade your food if you go on your own in the evening in Sorrento with all the available boutique restaurants Capri and Positano are beautiful and fun. Not to be missed. We did get into the blue grotto and again beautiful. Amalfi can be done on last day of tour, but extra cost. We did it but after regular tour I could take it or leave it. Regular tour well worth the money.
Debi_M, Sep 2019
First, the bus trip and tour of Pompeii was great. After that, it went downhill and was very confusing with the lack of communication from the tour guides. Once we completed at Pompeii and returned to the bus, a group of us were directed to another bus and sent to Sorrento. We were all dropped off at different hotels and didn't know what was in store for us the rest of the time. Since the group was so large, the tour guide had to talk in both in English and Spanish when there was communication. Sorrento and Capri was two other tour guides and involved many bus transfers to get us around. According to the description it said Amalfi coast was included and on our way to Sorrento we were told this was a separate tour and an additional 50 euros. So rushed and lack of communication I would not recommend this tour. Was not told how long we would be gone from Rome. Since the tour included two dinners, two lunches, and two breakfasts that lead me to believe we would be leaving the area after breakfast on the third day but it was another all day event. Hope they can improve the communication and maybe make it smaller groups
Response from Host, Sep 2019
Dear Debi, thanks for the detailed report, absolutely, we're going to take a deeper look and try to avoid such inconvenience in the future. Everything must be very clear to our guests beforehand and during the experience. To reach this goal we'll start an auditing process soon. We think that this product's page on Viator gives all the necessary information already, but we apologize if it wasn't clear enough, we'll have that checked too in order to improve the content material displayed. Warm regards, the Gray Line I Love Rome Team
Borna_V, Sep 2019
Everything was outstanding! All of our tour guides were great. Oliver, Roberta, Sascha and the rest. Absolute highlight was the day trip to Capri! Highly recommend this tour!
Yu W, Jul 2019
The online description of the tour was pretty accurate. Therefore, no huge surprises once it got started. Like many have said, the trip involves several local tour guides who "hand over" guests at various stops. It was rather smooth in my experience, except for in one occasion our group of guests got really confused as to which hotels we're staying. Turns out two should stay at hotel A and the rest should stay at hotel B. But those at hotel B knew nothing about the arrangement. Interestingly, the two at hotel A received no information about the rest of the itinerary (such as meeting time/location) and they had to ask the rest of the group (they happen to have exchanged phone number). Local tour company was not very accessible in time of need.
Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri are wonderful destinations that I highly encourage tourists to visit. I will still recommend this tour, although be prepared for a little bit of chaos which, I heard, is typical of Southern Italy :)
