We greatly enjoyed the Open Air Hummer Adventure with our guide Bob. The tour was the best combination of fun and education. Bob is an excellent storyteller and a natural teacher. We learned about the geology and botany of this unique and gorgeous desert landscape during several interesting stops, and riding in the military jeep was a great fun.. Bob did a fabulous job of engaging all of our traveling companions, including two young teens. We highly recommend this hummer open air tour.

There is some hiking mostly on flat trails. Drivers are very knowledgeable about the geology. The tour takes place in the High Desert elevation about 4800’. It was cool in May and they put us in vans instead hummers. Kind of bummer but glad we weren’t freezing! It was very windy. Great experience and would love to explore some more!

Watch your emails frequently. Our Hummer ride was changed to a van ride due to cool weather. I loved our guide Eddie who was very knowledgeable about so many things. I thought our stops were too brief. But yes I definitely recommend this tour

Great Joshua Tree tour! Hummer fun and several hiking stop spots for experiencing the terrain. Our 8 & 10 year old loved it. Flowering plants, coyote and snake sighting. Great guide, Denise.

Tom was a great guide. He adapted to our group and switched up one of the spots so my teenage kids could try the hall of horrors! It was perfect for all of us! And the music was perfection.

Tour guide was amazing ( Bob ). He had some secret spots we can venture into and he explained everything along the way. Im happy that we booked with them instead of going at solo. Oh and the hummer ride was super fun.

Joshua trees are fascinating and rock formations are beautiful! Also loved the amazing view of the entire Coachella Valley. Bob was fun, knowledgeable and great for our grandkids.

Booked this for my bachelor party and it was a fantastic experience all around.
To start — I accidentally booked the wrong date, and the company handled it seamlessly. They found a new driver, locked in a different date, and made it all work without any hassle. That kind of customer service really stood out and I'm grateful for it.
Our group was nine guys, all around six feet tall, so I was a little worried about space. No issues at all — everyone fit comfortably in the Hummer. Our tour guide was great, kept the energy up the whole time with entertaining stories, solid jokes, and interesting facts about Joshua Tree and the surrounding area that none of us had heard before. We hit all the key spots in the park and everyone came away feeling like they got the full experience. The music was on point and the Hummer ride itself was a blast.

Amazing experience to visit Joshua Tree. Much much better than expected. Our guide Bob super knowledgeable about the park, flora, fauna, and the greater Palm Springs area. Hummer was a cool way to experience but important on where you sit. The front middle seats are pretty much horrible - hard to get into and the view is bad. All other seats much better. Make sure you get the good ones.

Terrible experience, left us with no transportation back to our hotel. Bad communication and needs correcting

Roger, we’re very sorry that the return transportation at the end of your tour did not go as smoothly as planned. Our intention was to arrange an Uber ride back to the Palm Springs Art Museum pickup location, but the driver unfortunately canceled due to the extremely high winds that afternoon, which created some unexpected delays. In this case private transportation was arranged for you after all only leading to an inconvenience of about a 45 minute extra wait.
We completely understand that waiting for alternate transportation was frustrating. As we discussed at the time, we issued a full refund for the tour and also provided a $400 voucher should you wish to visit again in the future.
The tour itself was completed, and we’re glad you were still able to experience Joshua Tree that day. Weather conditions in the desert can occasionally create unexpected challenges, but we always do our best to take care of our guests when something outside our control occurs.
We appreciate your feedback and wish you safe travels going forward.

My hubby and I shy away from group tours for various reasons, but due to the vastness of the park we opted for an expert to take through.
It’s the best decision we’ve made in a long time. Our guide Tom was knowledgeable, personable and very entertaining.
His music list we listened to was the cherry on the top.

Our guide Bob, was excellent; very knowledgeable and lots of fun. I had expected to do some 4WD roads, but we stayed on the paved park roads. Hope you do not get the Hummer named Phoenix, and sit in the 3rd row. There is no upper windshield, and when driving over 25 it is very windy and chilly.

Most of the roads inside Joshua Tree National Park are paved and protected, so our tours focus on the scenic routes, geology, and hidden viewpoints that many visitors miss. The open-air Hummers are designed to give everyone unobstructed views of the landscape, which does mean you can feel the desert breeze, especially from the back seats when we’re moving.

A wonderful experience seeing all the different rock formations. And climbing up mountains and rocks. The hummer ride was so fun. Must wear warm clothes. The higher elevation is much cooler. All and all a great experience. I would definitely recommend it.

Loved the nature and landscape. The drive was long but the views were worth every moment. Price was high but justified for gas and inflation. Guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Gave him a tip for taking for photos of me.

Our guide, Bob, was excellent. That, and the magnificent splendor of the park, are the only positives. Don't be fooled by a picture of a hummer sitting in front of a Joshua tree. This 3 hour tour never leaves a paved road on which you could drive your own car. Further, an entire hour of the tour is spent on reaching the park entrance from the meeting point and returning. About an hour is spent walking around magnificent rocks where people are climbing and learning some interesting facts about Joshua trees, other flora and the park's geology. The other hour is spent climbing to an amazing vista, with some time for viewing. Add in extra National Park Service charges of $15 per person and a gratuity, this tour costs over $200 per person for 2 hours inside the park. And your snack is a protein bar and water. Even factoring in inflated California prices, this tour is grossly overpriced. Roll your windows down and enjoy your own drive through the park.

We are, however, disappointed to see a 2-star rating, as this is extremely rare for us. With hundreds of five-star reviews and thousands of guests each year, your experience is very much an outlier, and we truly wish it had felt more positive overall.
A few clarifications may be helpful for you and for future guests reading this:
We remain one of the least expensive guided experiences in Joshua Tree, especially for an open-air H1 Hummer tour with a geology-focused guide. The operational costs for this type of tour are substantial, and we work hard to keep pricing as reasonable as possible.
The $15 National Park Service entrance fee is mandated by the NPS for all commercial tours as of January 1st and, by regulation, cannot be paid by the tour operator on behalf of guests.
The full 3-hour itinerary is clearly listed on Viator, including the scenic paved routes within the park and the walking portions at key geological and photo locations. Off-roading is strictly prohibited by the National Park Service, and we do not advertise it.
Your tour did, in fact, utilize the entire 3-hour window, including the drive through the park, the geology stops, and the vista climb.
We very much respect your perspective on pricing, even though most guests feel the experience, vehicle, guide expertise, and park access offer excellent value. We’re grateful you shared your thoughts, even if we’re scratching our heads a bit given your praise for the guide and the park experience itself.

Our guide, Bob, was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. We learned so much about the high desert and its fauna and flora and rock formations. Being a former rock climber himself, he could give us a lot of information about the rock climbers we were seeing. Loved it. Certainly wouldn’t want to do this tour any other way other than in an open air vehicle although it is chilly so dress warmly. Even the ride back was great fun as we sang along to a great musical selection.
