Great experience- a little rough on back and neck

Kristen_R, Jan 2026
This was a fantastic experience! They covered historic buildings and the history and genetics of the wild horses! We saw tons and the guide knew all their names and family groups. I studied genetics so it was fascinating hearing about how these horses were intentionally bred. Amazing and unforgettable experience! The only downside was the ride was very rough. We are able bodied but we had back and neck pain. My parents asked if they should go and I advised a different vehicle as I think it would have been too much. But Al around great way to see that part of the island and learn the history!

Amazing Tour!

Alexis_S, Dec 2025
You learn a lot of the history of the horses as well as Corolla! Our tour guide was Edna and she was amazing!!!

Worth the bumpy ride and the cold wind

It may take some time to find the horses. It gets very cold in November on the truck so dress warm….

Dress warm for offseason tours. Guide was exceptional. Not only did we find horses, we were briefed in local news and lore.

Don't Forget Your Gloves!

Stephanie_T, Nov 2025
I have known for many many years about the Wild Horses but I had never taken the opportunity to see them up close and personal (as the saying goes). I trusted Viator excursions based on previous experiences with the company on other vacation trips. This was a wonderful excursion and our guide was knowledgeable and fun. Definitely you will need reservations. We had to drive at least an hour to get to the site so I selected the 11:30 departure. The venue was considerate enough to send an email warning about possible traffic issues and suggesting that we leave early. We arrived early enough to stop by the Currituck Lighthouse before our tour started (it is just down the road). What I did wrong was forgetting to bring gloves! If you are touring in late November make sure you bring gloves. Be aware that you are in an open air 4 wheel drive vehicle for two hours. Dress for the weather. The folks were considerate enough to provide lap blankets so we were not miserable just cold.

Wild Horses and Open Waters

Wild horses were a sight to see. The guide was knowledgeable and made the trip interesting. We went on the coldest possible day yet had a great time

Unusual

Steve_C, Nov 2025
Not what expected but exceptional. Not a lot of horses. Go expecting to see something cool but keep an open mind.

Soo many horses

Shawn_H, Nov 2025
Dress warm---chilly when driving down the beach. Tour provides blankets and we definitely needed them!

Hold onto your hats....

Marian_V, Nov 2025
Hold onto your hats. Scenery and horses are beautiful, well worth checking it out. Easily takes the whole 2 hours.

Real local history!

Stacey_P, Oct 2025
Our tour was owned and operated by a local family. Our guide clearly loves her history and shares her passion for the horses and the land.

Windy!!!!

Philip_P, Oct 2025
Enjoyable. I expected to see horses in the wild but instead most we saw were standing in the yards of beach homes. The ride along the beach was exhilarating but we weren’t quite prepared for the speed of travel. Our guide was great and had lived there for years. It was definitely a new and interesting experience!

Searching for wild horses.

Roxanne_N, Oct 2025
The weather was chilly and windy. Kept that in mind as you dress to ride in the open back of a truck. The tour guide is the driver who does give commentary along the trip. However, only the first 1 or 2 people behind the driver’s window can hear it. It is neat to see the horses and think about how long they have been surviving here.

It was as advertised

Ricky_H, Oct 2025
It was great. The guide was very informative We saw 40 or so horses and several on the beach Great trip

A wonderful and enlightening experience. The horses on the beach was a beautiful sight. The guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do

Karla was a great driver. Loved it. Wished we had seen more horses though

Katharine_F, Oct 2025
Bumpy! And I’m cooler weather bring jackets… cold on the beach. Horses were cute but not as many as we had hoped

Wonderful experience

Karen_C, Oct 2025
Went on the 1st tour after the noreaster. Kind if cold and windy. Was a great experience riding to the area where there are just sand roads-loved it! Did see about a dozen horses roaming freely. They didn't mind the vehicle going past them. Haven't wanted to see the wild horses for awhile-can check that off the bucket list!

I was surprised to see the horses around all the houses in the area, it was not 'natural', but we saw lots of horses, and this is their habitat.

Great experience to see the horses great guide be prepared for a bit of wind and a bit of a bumpy ride.

Loved the history, scenery, and of course the horses

Willam_H, Oct 2025
The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the area. He went out of his way to make sure we saw the wild horses. The ride along the beach was a blast.

Great experience

David_C, Oct 2025
GPS took us right to the place. Guide checked us in quickly and directed us to the restrooms. At departure time, Paul gave us a brief history of the area and some personal stories about it. The tour was bumpy at times—as one should expect—but it wasn’t too much (and it actually made it more fun!). We were able to see numerous horses, and Paul even took our picture with 3 of them in the background on the beach. We had a great time, and you—undoubtedly—will too!

Fun and horses

Randy_P, Oct 2025
Wonderful ride on the beach and through beach only access communities. Saw about 15 horses. Fantastic driver.

John, our tour guide,...

JeannieClubine, Oct 2025
John, our tour guide, gave us a great background on the Corolla wild horses. We were out 15 minutes longer than scheduled because he wanted us to have the best excursion possible. Highly recommend this tour.

Enlightening Experience
