Itinerary

The Road to Hana is one of Maui’s most popular and scenic adventures, and with this Hana adventure tour from Oahu, you can experience the lush, tropical beauty and be back in Oahu by night.

On this adventurous Maui day trip from Oahu, you’ll wake up early for a hotel pickup and transfer to Honolulu Airport, before flying for 30 minutes to Maui and the start of your drive out towards Hana. This part of Maui is famous for its waterfalls and dense forests of bamboo, and be sure to bring along your bathing suit since one of the stops is the chance to swim at the idyllic Pools of Ohe’o.

For those on the Hawaiian Airline option, a tasty no-host luncheon stop is provided for the chance to relax and refuel, and if weather permits, you’ll also make stops at the Keanae Lookout and the North Shore town of Paia. Gaze in wonder at the black-sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park, and stare straight up as you watch water thundering over roadside Wailua Falls.

This long day is packed with adventure and sights around every turn, and is a way of visiting Maui from Oahu for travelers who are short on time.

We did the day trip from Oahu to Road to Hana on Maui. The views were spectacular! Letting a pro do the driving made the experience enjoyable for us because we could look at the views and not the road. Sale was our guide and driver. He was so warm, personable and knowledgeable about the road, the history and legends, the flora and fauna and cheerfully answered all questions. Sale made the trip even better by making us feel like Ohana (family) I loved the trip and am so thankful we were able to work it into our plans.

Salesi was very knowledgeable and informative. He made the trip pleasurable and carefree. I appreciate his making sure my lunch was Allergy free for me.

Eh, glad we did it, but never again

Road was pretty nausea inducing—miles of zig zagging at higher rates of speed. Driver was kind hearted but also gave a lecture for awhile at our first stop about listening to him. We felt like scolded second graders, even though we didn’t do anything wrong. Got a gluten free pizza at our stop due to celiac disease—I had to wait after everyone was done eating to eat since the gluten free one was done last for some reason. It was uncomfortable just sitting there for the extra 25 minutes while everyone ate but me and then others got to explore the grounds, and I missed out on that. Risk of cross contamination was super high and driver touched the regular pizza and then touched the g free one and described it as “expensive “ and invited everyone to eat it. I was pretty hungry and sure did NOT want everyone to try since they were already 4 pieces down and I had had nothing. (It was likely a frozen Udi’s btw, so nothing special in particular) I’m glad there was an option for me to eat, but there was some missing awareness here, and it’s already pretty hard traveling with a medical condition. Positives: views were spectacular, when we finally got off of that dang road! Sea turtles at the end made the whole thing worth it.

The road to Hana did not leave us wanting. Beautiful foliage, waterfalls, and drastic ocean views abound. Salesa added to our trip with rich history, knowledge and passion.

Awesome trip. The driver Lee is funny and patient. We got all spots with nice views. Good choice for one day trip to see almost everything at the island

Broken Bus and Abandoned US

NighatAkbar_S, Dec 2019
Before the lunch our driver Henry (good guy) found out that the car’s back frame was broken(cracked), it wasn’t shiny, so he figured it must have been cracked for some days and wasn’t checked properly. We were abandoned with another family for about three hours and almost missed our flight back to Honolulu. Finally when the driver got there he wanted to continue the trip but it was too late and decided to take a u-turn route and came back. It took him sometime to contact his boss as she was adamant that he finishes the tour even it was late we were frustrated and getting late to airport. The other driver who carried us for 20 minutes to lunch and 10 minutes from lunch to black sand beach in Hana seat my 17yrs old boy on the cooler in the front so he could have another elderly passenger it It. But he could’ve taken us on the tour when the other passenger wanted to stay back with his two sons instead he was abandoning us there but the other family was frustrated with them two days in a row and they stayed with us as well. So it was nothing as promised, the company lacks customer service and safety.

It was a great tour and an amazing experience! Maui is one of the most beautiful islands in the world and definitely worth seeing. The tour was well organized, the guide very friendly and funny and I had a great time with the other tour participants. The only downside was that my flight back to Oahu was delayed, which was not the agencies fault of course. However they didn't wait for me at the Airport as promised but simply drove away with the guests from other tours which arrived on time. This would have not been that bad if they would have organized another transportation. But that was not the case and I had to take care of the ride back to my hotel myself althought that service was supposed to be included in the tour package!

The tour was really great and gives you a good first overview. There is enough time for pictures and to experience the view. Since the tour is only a 1-day trip, there is unfortunately not enough time to explore places in detail. Furthermore, the pick-up and organization was a bit unorganized. However, if you are limited in time, I can only recommend this tour.

Maui was a great place to visit...

Joseph_P, Oct 2016
Maui was a great place to visit, although we had a guide from upstate NY that was more intent on commenting on the driving of others and the appearances of pedestrians than sharing any information about the area. I'm sure I missed some of what he said, because I started tuning him out after the 1st hour. The provided lunch left a lot to be desired, as it was plain rice and bland grilled chicken... not at all what you would expect with all of the amazing local choices. It was also disappointing that with all of the roadside stands with fresh local fruit, the only stop we made was at the stand that sold the driver's favorite banana bread. We did our best to enjoy the experience, but it would have been much better without Wayne's rambling commentary.

I had a very enjoyable time on this tour around Maui, Roy who was our driver and guide for the day was wonderful and had a plethora of historical knowledge to share with us throughout the whole tour. Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before the tour, as it's a very long day beginning at 4:30am till 7pm. Unfortunately our return flight was delayed, and our bus pick up after we landed back in Oahu missed us? I had to call them and organise another pick up for 5 of us, the bus eventually collected us after 9pm, so it was a very very long day, and a frustrating way to end what was a wonderful day. Apart from this hick up, I'd still recommend this tour to new visitors to Hawaii and I'm glad I got the chance to visit Maui and capture some wonderful photos of it's natural beauty.

It was a terrible trip. We had to wake up real early to go to the airport, and after reaching Maui, we spent the entire long day in a small uncomfortable bus listening to a bored, uninterested guide Elizabeth. Despite having a beautiful sunny day, she would only stop few times for a few minutes of sightseeing, then threaten us to leave us behind if late!! Our promised swim in the lake was NOT fulfilled claiming that the water was high you should mention that in the tour description!!. The food was simply PATHETIC. Also, despite paying more, we were not given the souvenir gifts. A truly terrrible event....DO NOT DO IT.

If you are the kind of people that loves to view great landscapes through the window, do it. This is a bus tour, we only stopped for a 5-10 minutes at each view. Big stops were only for lunch at the restaurant and for an 1 hour swim at the sacred pools To get to the swimming area takes you about 10 mins each way. Overall, from 8 to 5 inside the bus with quick stops. To me it doesn't worth the effort of getting up at 4 to get picked up at the hotel at 5 to head to the airport, wait for you flight to arrive to Maui and then be on the bus for so many hours just watching and then get back to the airport and be back at your Waikiki hotel at 10 PM. May be if you are staying at Maui so you can go back to whatever you liked the most of the highlights.

It's a long day - we had to be at Honolulu airport at 5 am and got back around 7 pm - but it was worth it. We had Mika as a driver/guide. What a terrific guy! He knows every pothole, turnout and vista point on the road and has a wealth of knowledge about Hawaii, Maui, and the Hana area. He also provided unlimited bottled water and soft drinks. Most of the group opted for the buffet lunch (about $30 extra), but we chose the box lunch ($10) and were delighted with it. Choice of sandwiches, packed in an insulated lunch bag with chips, fruit and a bottle of water. Mika would tell us what photo ops were coming up, stop when he could for them, or drive very slowly so we could snap them. The side windows were nice and clean for that purpose. There were also a number of planned stops ranging from 5-45 minutes. Scattered showers that day, but they didn't bother us, and we had a marvelous time. I've always wanted to see the area, but didn't want to drive the road. This is definitely the way to do it! The tour company has easily identifiable company reps met us at Honolulu Airport to get us checked in for our flight and at Maui airport to get us onto the bus (holds 25 passengers). They made sure we knew where we would check in for the flight back to Honolulu. They also provided a continental breakfast with plenty of coffee and juices. A wonderful organization. We highly recommend them and are delighted Viator booked us with them.

The trip was excellent and well coordinated. Started out with a pick-up at our hotel to the airport and flying into Maui. A coordinator was waiting for us at the Honolulu airport and briefed us on what is going to happen through the day. As soon as we landed in Maui Airport another coordinator was waiting for us and guided us to the tour shuttle. The tour guide was quite knowledgeable about the region. We also took another tour (longer than this) and compared to that guide this guide paled and boring. It could be her personality and probably cannot hold against her, but it was sleepy at times. Overall, the trip was good and enjoyable.

This is definitely NOT for the faint-hearted!! My friends and I felt sick at the end of the day, after having to get up so early to catch the flight, and then travelling in the bus all day along winding roads with no ventilation....scenery was breathtaking and all, but if you get carsick easily, I wouldn't recommend this...

Am meisten hat mich die nette Betreuung beeindruckt. Es fing mit einem Frühstück an und setzte sich mit verschiedenen Pizzasorten und Pineapplegetränk zum Lunch fort. Man konnte viele neue Sachen vom Fahrer erfahren.
