Such an impactful collection packed in to a small space. It was an honour to meet Gary: his narration explaining the backstory of the photographs and artefacts was informative and moving.

This is NOT a tour of the 9/11 museum. We waited and waited and nobody showed up. I messaged the tour operator and there was no response. I can only surmise that this was a scam.
Debra_D, Nov 2021
Apparently this isn't at ground zero. Highly misleading. The ad needs to be much clearer about what this actually is.
Response from Host, Jan 2022
Debra -- We make it clear in our listing and it is well-known that our Museum -- now in its 17th year -- is NOT located at Ground Zero. It is in our description and also printed on tickets when guests make a purchase. This is not a Museum that features a "location" as it's selling point - it is a Museum that honors those lost and those who spent 9 months digging to locate them in the rubble. It is certainly not our intention to mislead any guests and our goal has always been to be a contribution; to create an opportunity for education and remembrance. Thank you.

It was a great experience and Gary was an excellent host , I like this place because we had the museum only for us
RICHARD_Harwood, Feb 2020
Very emotional but very interesting also. The museum was very good. Being at ground zero was very moving
Tammy_C, Jun 2019
We spent at least an hour and a half listening to every story on the artifacts and pictures that were captured during the recovery. Very touching and moving experience. Sad reminder of how many lives were lost and how many of the first responders that have passed since from the toxic conditions that they worked in.

Great, interactive tour. You are provided with a set of bose headphones and over 100 exhibits to ponder at and listen to the photographer's story behind their meaning and significance. It was quite moving, especially the section about the dogs that helped out. The biggest piece of glass found within ground zero is here, and its quite incredible to look at!

I received confirmation for this trip on my phone, and assumed since there is only one 911 Memorial, there was only one tour. When time approached for the tour, four friends plus myself, took the subway from our hotel to Ground Zero and got in line to get our tickets. It was there we learned our voucher was for an entirely different tour, that required us taking a subway several blocks and for which we were already late. We opted to stay at the Memorial and take the tour there. The GZMWT called me and was very understanding, offering to reschedule for the following day. That option sounded best until we realized our last and final day of our short weekend trip would be spent at another study of Ground Zero. We opted to skip the rescheduled tour in order to take in some different sights. I telephoned GZMWT and Gary was extremely cordial and offered to mail me the gift they provided, even though we would not be attending. Maybe on a subsequent trip we will have opportunity to experience the GZMWT.

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop space was much smaller than expected. In about 1000 sq.ft. of space it had an amazing collection of exclusive photos taken during the clean-up of the ground zero devastation. Each photo was accompanied by a moving audio description of the image by the photographer. The space also included a number of artifacts found at the site. We did not know what to expect before visiting the Museum but found it to be an engaging and moving experience.

Absolutely outstanding. Very informative and a true reflection of what happened after the event. Real life stories. Extremely moving. A definitive must. Highly highly recommended.

Don't bother. It's no where near the memorial site. It's a small room full of photographs, most of which are in the official museum. It was all rather awkward and uncomfortable and amateurish to be frank.
Debbie S, Aug 2017
We had a wonderful experience at the Ground Zero Museum. The young man running the tour was a pleasure and we enjoyed being able to appreciate and pray for all of our FDNY service men and women who did such an important job on that horrific day. We are humbled by their great losses and heroism.

I visited here in August 2016. We had visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum and the 9/11 Tribute Centre but this was a completely different experience. The girl working the day we went was very welcoming and professional. We arrived about 15 minutes after the start time and didn't think we would be let in but she was very accommodating and even let us have extra time at the end so that we were able to see everything. I cannot praise her highly enough. I would definitely recommend this workshop.

Very interesting, was good to hear the story of how things unfolded and what it meant to so many people and how people helped . Sad but worthwhile.
Don B, Oct 2016
A location a little hard to locate prior to 1100 am as no outside advertising till 10.45, being a 2nd floor attraction. Over 100 items of interest, on head phone recording by the FDNY official photographer. 1 1/2 tour could have stayed longer to complete listenings, Value for money on my part
Sarah M, Apr 2016
Lots of photos and items packed into a very small room, with an audio explanation of each item. Very interesting and moving. Need to allow about two hours for the full audio tour. Near to Chelsea Market and the High Line.
Nancyskinner2, Dec 2015
Probably the most impressive photo museum ever. The actual photographer was present the day of our tour and his stories and photos were electrifying. This tour os a MUST for anyone wanting to pay tribute to those that died on 911.
Jane S, Nov 2015
Absolutely stunning and moving, in a very intimate setting!
Susan e, Oct 2015
Very moving.highly recommend a visit to this little gem
Patricia C, Sep 2015
I was a bit disappointed with this tour having read the reviews. The museum itself is 1 very small room and the guide we had - to be honest - really didn't do anything. We were shown a video, then he explained a few items maybe 4 and then gave us a headset to explore ourselves. This trip is advertised at 2 hours - we did it in 1 hour and didn't leave anything out!!
It's a cheap visit and the photos are amazing and very moving - but if you're going to the 9/11 museum I wouldn't bother with this one.
Dorothy C, May 2015
This is not the tour you think it is. It's a 400 sq ft room in the meat packing district with photos and a few artifacts taken from the recovery at ground zero. Most of the focus is on the firefighters. It's fine for what it is, but if you are looking for the story of the 9/11 tragedy go to the other museum. I think some who wrote prior reviews confused which museum was which. If you choose to go here, you'll be done in an hour.
Kim D, Jan 2015
Not the exact tour I actually had thought I booked and wanted, but this was still nice and moving experience. To see artifacts and hear the stories behind these were quite moving.
Michele J, Jan 2015
It is a very underwhelming start and not what one would expect , but once inside you will be impressed.... Very hard to find...outside sandwich board is landmark. If you want ground zero, this ain't it for you..if you want emotion this is it.."
Cynthia V, Dec 2014
Memorable experience during this 2 hour tour of poohoto collection and actual items from Ground Zero. Intimate and up-close look at the devastation after 9/11.
Liam F, Nov 2014
Extremely hard to find not signposted very well and just average room with display cases. Not what we expected, better off going to museum which was at ground zero, this was at least twenty minutes away. Disappointed
Beverley M, Nov 2014
Naming this tour ground zero museum is totally misleading. The actual ground zero site has its own museum and this is what I thought I had booked on to. Whilst I found it well presented and more personal than ground zero site, it should form part and not be run separately otherwise, you should change the name.
Silvia W, Aug 2014
The trip was excellent! The tour was amazing. The stories learned that day were both emotional and heartbreaking, but yet informative. There were so many artifacts that made that day so memorable. I'm really glad I got to experience it.
Sue J M, Aug 2014
I felt very fool by the advertisement about this museum. It is NOT the big new national museum at Ground Zero; it is somewhere else in Manhattan. It is NOT at or near the 9/11 memorial site. I think the name is misleading. I was at ground zero at the national memorial fountain pools and wanted to see the official memorial museum. This is not it and they will not refund your tickets no matter what.
Lenna N, Jul 2014
This was an intimate, moving, experience from a participant's view. The artifacts, photos and spoken account was very moving. If you want to roam through a big, boring, impersonal museum, this is NOT for you. It IS however, for anyone who wants to see and hear a personal, first hand account of the event.
Alison E, Jul 2014
Gosh, what can I say. Take some tissues with you. We were fortunate enough to meet Gary who was the only photographer given access to take the official photographs. There are numerous photos and items to look at and you can take photos of all the exhibits bar one and the reason for this will become obvious to you once you are there. The Museum is located in the Meat Packing District and it is on the 2nd floor of a building so it is not an obvious looking museum. It is very different from the 911 Museum so it is well worth doing both of them. The tour guides are lovely too and make you feel very welcome. You are also allowed to touch some of the exhibits and a lot of the money goes to the charity to support the families of the victims.
