Disappointing tours in LA - could do a lot better

    Helen_G, Jun 2026
Not the best city tours, grumpy monosyllabic drivers and dispatchers. The only friendly staff were the sales people. Red tour- the commentary was switched off for half of the stops, didn’t mention stop 7 which was a crucial one for switching to Santa Monica tour. I only realised we had missed half of red tour when did it again next day to get to stop 7 for yellow tour. Day 2 red bus driver was very helpful and friendly. Yellow tour - driver not too bad, bus was ancient. Several numbers in the commentary didn’t line up with the map Purple tour - another monosyllabic driver and numbers not lining up between commentary and map. Live tracking wasn’t working/turned on. One good point about the yellow tour was that the driver stopped at every single stop which didn’t happen with the other ones. The dispatcher at the desk (between CVS and Target) didn’t even look up from his phone when asked for help. We eventually found a leaflet with the times throughout the day but nobody seemed too keen to share this info, I even emailed and got first and last buses but not the services throughout the day. Having just come from San Fran where we did similar city tours with different hop on hop off company, their drivers and dispatchers were very friendly, and City Sightseeing really could up their game.

The bus’ top deck is very dirty, old and extremely uncomfortable. The windshield is filthy with limited visibility if you want a front row seat. There is hardly any legroom for adults, leaving your legs trapped and squeezed in between seats which are dated and out of shape. The headphones were useless because the radio was broken and we learned almost nothing about where we were or the history of what we were seeing. The routes were very limited. I’ve been on many city sightseeing buses throughout many cities including internationally, and the buses in Los Angeles were horrible, the worst bus experience by far. Pretty embarrassing. Tourists near me were also more than displeased.

    Think about it first.

    Michele_B, Feb 2026
It is great in theory but be warned that there is a ton of waiting around. I know it’s off season and I do understand traffic but the amount of time we spent waiting on the next bus made us wish we did something else. Could be waiting an hour and there is no way even in the app to track where the next bus is. The best you get is an estimate of > 30 minutes but that could change. We missed things we wanted to see because we could not risk missing the bus. One of our drivers was super friendly. It was cold and rainy and so was the bus! Saw more buses with other companies. Maybe book the official timed tour

    Sloppy information

    carlos_A, Jan 2026
The pick up location in downtown Los Angeles is non existent. I had to get an Uber ride to Hollywood.

    Dont ever booked this scam!!!!

    Lorensia_S, Dec 2025
I cancel this trip we wait for 2 hours with all diffrent information buss never arrive. CS dont help the worst tour in my Life!!!!!!!!!

Detoured off the route for 45 minutes and a mean driver

    Eileen_T, Nov 2025
I’ve used Viator and hop on hop off buses in several cities with my family. This LA tour was disappointing. We were detoured for a good portion of the ride seeing nothing of importance with no audio commentary . The driver of our LA tour bus was unhinged, the audio told us we were at a stop, the bus stopped and everyone on the top level stood up to leave. She yelled at us through the speakers to sit back down and through the speakers actually said, “What is wrong with you people.” She moved up about 20 feet and then told us we could depart. An overall bad experience. Wouldn’t have spent the money if we knew the LA tour was going to be this bad.

    LA in a day

    Elizabeth_C, Sep 2025
Excellent way to see the city if you’re limited for time from Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica in a day

    Fatima_M, Sep 2025
Good except we had trouble with the app and getting the tour details. That was very frustrating.we tried to get assistance with this issue but was unsuccessful.

    Disappointed with Starline in LA

    Andrea_M, Jul 2025
On Saturday, July 26, there were bus problems. One bus on purple route 2 was out of service making it impossible to jump on and off at will. Leaving you stranded i. Areas for at least 2 hours at a time. Then the red line bus was running late by at least 20 minutes so when we did schedule to hop from red to purple, we missed the 1:10 switch time at stop 1. We were told we could wait till the 3 pm purple but that would not allow us time to hop off and would just be riding the loop for 2 hours. Stop 1 personnel failed to tell us that route 2 wasn’t going to be there at 2 pm until 2:15 when we started asking where the bus was. We weren’t the only people waiting.

Poor service Ear plug leads too short Bus needed a clean Disappointing considering we have done many hop on hop off bus tours

    Waste of time

    Brian_S, Jun 2025
Not very frequent only managed to do 2 routes as wasted time and never got off at all staff were nice though. Expensive for what is was

So great to see all the famous places along the way! It was a fun tourist thing to do while visiting LA.

    Sightseeing Relaxation

    Monica_S, Apr 2025
I enjoyed riding around Hollywood and Beverly Hills sightseeing. The ridecwas easy, driver was pleasant , and the toyr itself was in a timely manner.

Fantastic way to travel and see it all

    Steve_n, Apr 2025
Fantastic way of see los Angeles get to see loads driver's are brilliant as well really helpful and friendly would certainly say best way to travel

    Tourist attraction

    Vicky_N, Apr 2025
Was a good way to drive around LA and would highly recommend you only do this on a weekend day as the week day traffic slows the service down. There was too long a wait between buses if you did want to get off and then if you wanted to connect to a different line, they didn’t meet up very well. If you do the whole round trip then there is nothing to worry about

    Awesome

    Susan_N, Feb 2025
Hop on hop off was great!! Lots of traffic, so busy was late. Make sure to leave plenty of time so you don't miss the last bus because of traffic. We had a great time seeing Beverly Hills downtown L.A and Dolby theater.

    Fantastic ride!

    Jimmy_M, Sep 2024
Worth the money you paid for. I dont know how i managed to squeeze my time to take all the red, yellow and purple routes, all in a single day! Perhaps, i dodnt get down the bus the whole time. I only made 1 stop at the farmer's market to grab some dinner, but that was it! And hop on back again with the next bus.

Worst HOHO I have been on.

    Ken_D, Aug 2024
No air on bottom floor of bus. So hot that I had to get off. Got on another bus. Pretty much the same heat wish but the upper level was actually open air as advertised. Had to sit up top just to deal. First driver not friendly or happy at all. And she drove very slow. Second driver was at least nice. Narration was sparse.

    Great tour

    Vanessa_M, Aug 2024
All divers were nice and friendly. They informed us of bused coming and going. Great tour. Alot of things to do and many stops.

    Waste of money

    Emerald_C, Jul 2024
I bought 2 day tickets for 4.It was a waste of money. So much traffic on the road. We sat on the lower deck of the bus, it was very hot. We only took the Hollywood and downtown routes for the first day. I don't really like it. We did use our ticket the second day because we just took public transport to get santa monica beach. I would not recommend this, just get the small bus tour. Bit pricy but worth it.

    Poorly narrated and hop...

    Michael_M, Apr 2024
Poorly narrated and hop on and off locations are to far away from sites. Driver was rude and not informative at all.

    Disappointing

    Bobbie_H, Mar 2024
Wasn’t ’up to par’. Write up indicated we could just ‘stay on’, but we were told we had to disembark so driver could take his lunch break. We were shuffled between 3 buses, taking many more hours than we had planned for. Used another company tour the following day and it was stellar!

    Beautiful views

    sscarrera, Mar 2024
Beautiful view of the city and very nice drivers. I enjoyed touring this way and look forward to doing this more in the future in other cities.

    Unexceptable

    Michelle_S, Jan 2024
The audio was good and informative and was the only thing worthwhile, once the bus didn’t come forcing us to meet the bus at another area $25 in a taxi, when we confronted staff members about it they said they were missing a bus , rather than send another bus, they then said a bus did pick up from our stop and that is a not the truth we were waiting at that stop for over an hour before getting a taxi as the bus for that time and route was out for the whole day, they just crossed out what was on the timetable completely and did not replace the bus at all, also requiring that whole purple route to be cancel for the entire day, this bus was the only bus to and from our hotel. So the cost of our ticket doubled due to the expense of our taxi transportation, the whole reason we chose this tour is that it came by our hotel having to avoid using taxi and public transport, there was no apology just lies that the bus did come when it did not, leaving us stranded. Someone should have come back to the passengers stranded at these stops to let them know

    LA Vacation

    Teresa_A, Dec 2023
Wonderful way to see Hollywood and Santa Monica all in one day! We even walked the Santa Monica Pier!

    It covers all important...

    Nabeel_A, Sep 2023
It covers all important land marks of Hollywood. However bus frequency is low and closed too early at 4 30pm

    NOT WORTH IT!!!!

    Cristina_R, Sep 2023
Would NOT recommend the hop on hop off in LA to ANYONE. The bussed TAKE FOREVER to pass by. We waiting 1 hour and 25 minutes for the bus to come, ended up requesting and Uber. For us this was definitely a waste of money. We have done Hop-On-Hop-Off in Rome, Paris and San Francisco the most time it takes between busses is 20 to 30 minutes; 1 hour and a half is a ridiculous amount of time!!!!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS!!!! NOT WORTH IT!

    Informative of Hollywood

    Justin_R, Aug 2023
Our bus tour on the redline was amazing. She was very informative and was able to help us out with city directions as well.
