Our guide was Andriy Voyevoda, who sent a message ahead of the date of our tour with detailed instructions about the meeting location, contact information and a photo so we could recognize him. We were the only two on the tour so we had a personalized experience. The tour started in the square outside the Church of St. Anthony and then we went inside the church. Andriy’s narrative and depth of knowledge about every place we stopped was exceptional. We visited a number of interesting locations in the Alfama neighborhood, including the Se Cathedral, the ruins of the Roman theater, and an overlook of the harbor where we stopped for a break with coffee at a little cafe there. We continued to hear about the history of the location as we made our way up to the castle. We had the Lisboa card so Andriy handled our entrance to the castle and grounds for free. Once inside the castle grounds, we had a fascinating tour of all the locations along with a narrative of the ways that castles were defended and how attackers could succeed in taking back a castle that was held by enemies. The tour was listed as lasting 3 hours, but Andriy stayed with us for an extra 40 minutes as we asked questions and learned about the history of the place. He pointed out the castle museum and explained how to get back to the starting point before taking his leave. This tour far exceeded our expectations in so many ways. Andriy provided a wealth of knowledge, anecdotes, geographical insights, religious and historical references and so much more. He was most considerate, pointing out where we needed to watch our step, asking about whether we needed a break, etc. Simply superb.

Andriy was one of the best tour guides we have ever had in Europe. The tour required a lot of walking, especially uphill walking, but Andriy was very patient and helpful. He went at our pace. His knowledge of Lisbon history was excellent.

Our tour of the Alfama was Excellent!!! We got there a few monies late due to an Uber driver coming really late to pick us up! Our tour guide was a young man that was wearing a long sleeve UV shirt in 95 degree weather and he never looked hot or uncomfortable! He was an excellent tour guide and his knowledge about the Lisbon cathedral and the Castle was Exceptional!! We learned sooo much about the history of the Alfama area and the castle!! Excellent tour with an exceptional guide!

This was the best city tour I have taken. The walking tour with Andriy was really enjoyable. His range of knowledge was amazing. He gave us a real understanding of Lisbon and the culture of the area. His approach was very personalised, responsive, with masses included but also not rushed, at a perfect pace of walking and pausing to talk in the shade; we were a small group which I would thoroughly recommend. The information and communication before the trip was reassuring and informative. This tour has certainly made our trip and I would definitely use Viator and small group walking tours again.

Our guide, Andriy Voyevoda, was incredible! He created an amazing experience. He answered all of our questions and made it a lasting memory. He was very kind and said numerous times to "watch your step" around the cobbled streets and the castle. Without him, it would just have been a walk. With him, it was a history lesson.

This was a great way to see one of Lisbon's top attractions along with other stops on the way. Our guide, Andre was fantastic (I had the pleasure of having him lead my tour in Belem, as well). It was a picturesque walk which included stop at some beautiful viewpoints and well as time at the end to explore the castle walls on your own.

I would give this tour even 10 stars if it were possible. A brilliant walking tour around all the significant landmarks of Lisbon. The tour guide, Rui, is super professional, very knowledgeable, and experienced. He knows a lot of details about every corner in Lisbon. I truly enjoyed the tour and the chosen route. I heard interesting facts and learned new things about history. Also, the number of attendees in the group is not too large, making it convenient to listen and easy to follow the guide.

Rui was the best guide we've ever had on a walking tour. His knowledge of the history and culture on our tour was incredible. He took his time to explain the significance of the areas we toured like none other. A genuine nice guy as well. By the way, the others in the group had cancelled so it was a 2.5 hour private tour for me and my wife. A true professional.

Very informative and pleasant guide. Visited a couple of churches and view points but the skip the line at the castle saved hours. Guide had a real passion for the castle and the views are terrific. A camera obscura show was included which was interesting. Didn’t hang around for the mock battle!

Visited Church of Saint Anthony, Se Lisboa (Cathedral), and Castle of St. George. Our guide spoke fluent English and was very knowledgeable about the history of all these locations as well as the historic Alfama neighborhood. Really enjoyed the 360° views around the city of Lisbon!

Andriy was a fantastic and knowledgeable tour guide. He made Lisbon’s history come to life! He brought us to the most picturesque places in the Alfama and knew the best details about every street!
We got a VIP tour of the cathedral and learned about St. Anthony.. the patron matchmaking saint of lost items. He knew the castle of Saint George like the back of his hand. Andriy is very intelligent and kept us interested and captivated about the siege and earthquake.
We had a marvelous time and highly recommend this tour and tour guide.

Andriy was absolutely excellent throughout this tour. He had in depth knowledge of the city’s history and was well versed in history in general from what I could gather. He was on time, and gave plenty of opportunity for us to ask questions or even just take a break where needed. Thanks so much Andriy! Others should definitely give this tour a go to get a proper in depth insight to a piece of Portugal history.
