Very informative, scenic and educational . Be prepared to experience breath taling views of snow covered mountains and hanging glaciers if you so choose, visit the food and beverage cart to satisfy your palette needs. The tour is well organized and narrated. If you’re lucky, you may spot a moose, black bear or eagle…. Absolutely stunning!

This is such a great experience! The Train staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about everything you see along the way.

There was beautiful scenery the whole time and I appreciated the guides trying to call out animals. It was super comfortable, decent dinner, and clean.

The round-trip train ride from Anchorage to Seward was one of the highlights of our Alaska trip! The scenery along the route was absolutely breathtaking, and the guides shared so many interesting facts about the area's history, wildlife, and landmarks, making the journey both educational and entertaining.
We had a great time exploring Seward before heading back, and it was the perfect way to experience this beautiful coastal town. While it's a long day, it is absolutely worth it for the incredible views and the amazing wildlife we saw along the way. If you're visiting Alaska, I highly recommend this train ride—it was an unforgettable experience!

Me and the friend took the train up to seward , and it was a very enjoyable trip , both ways. Well worth the experience!! The guidesBoth ways were awesome and explained everything down to the flowers in the area that we were passing. Seward is a very enjoyable little town and an excellent destination for this trip.

Your experience will be affected by your fellow passengers. On the way to Seward we had a large group of young people that were rowdy, loud and obnoxious. Yelling out several false claims of spotting wildlife and then laughing how they made everyone look. Also some constantly crying babies on board. On the return trip we had the opposite. Friendly and respectful people some with well behaved children. We could actually hear what the tour guides were saying That trip I would give 5 stars.

The tour guides were great. Audrey was funny. All the staff was friendly. Will do again but to Fairbanks

Great experience and great views on the way to Seward! My little family enjoyed the experience! My 12 year old even enjoyed it!

So much fun! My friend & I loved the ride. No watching for traffic, worrying about weather, or stopping for bathroom breaks & fuel. Great way to just relax & watch the scenery, while hearing a narrative about the areas. Thank you!

A relaxing, spectacular train trip through Alaskan untouched beauty…cliffs, inlets, mountains, glaciers, forest land…with moose, mountain goats, eagles, trumpeter swans…nowhere on earth can compare.
Train is comfortable, quiet with a smooth 4 hour ride each direction. Excellent observation cars and smart, informative and funny tour guides. Alex and Hillary were fabulous! Food is yummy too!
Vern the Conductor was absolutely The Best! We really enjoyed getting to know him…and to see how he inspires his young crew mates to be future train conductors/professionals too.
Highly recommend Viator…tickets less expensive due to group rate but same service as buying from AK Railroad directly.
Don’t miss this experience from Anchorage to Seward.

This is a great way to fill you day with a lot but without having to exsert yourself. The train is very comfortable. Lots of room to move around and enjoy the breathtaking scenery.

We took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward, and overall it was a fun and memorable experience. The train offers views you simply cannot see from the road, including glimpses of glaciers and beautiful stretches of wilderness. The best part was being able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery without the stress of driving. Parking at the Anchorage station was convenient, and the $20 fee was fair and easy to manage.
That said, there are a few things to keep in mind. The ride itself is quite long, and once you arrive in Seward, your time there is limited since you must re-board by a certain hour. This makes it hard to fully explore Seward or take part in longer excursions. Another downside is food, meals and snacks are available for purchase, but they’re not included in the ticket price. In hindsight, upgrading might have been worth it for the dining and comfort, though this wasn’t clear at the time of booking. Seating can also be an issue—since we traveled with another couple who booked separately, we weren’t seated together. You may want to call ahead to confirm seating or arrive early, though check-in is already at 6 a.m.
If you go, I recommend considering an upgrade for the front cars, which have outdoor standing viewing platforms that really enhance the experience.
All in all, it’s a unique and scenic way to travel, but be aware of the time constraints in Seward, the food costs, and the need to confirm seating arrangements if traveling with others.

Good food offered on the train! Very scenic and very clean. We did the train to and from Seward all on the same day. Would recommend this ride to anyone visiting!

This was an incredible experience. All of the staff on the train were so friendly and the train ride itself was so amazing.

Riding on the train and seeing Alaska’s beautiful scenery was such a treat! The staff were knowledgeable and kind.

Better than expected. Fun. Beautiful. Educational. Fourth time and I’ll be back. Did the round trip from Anchorage to Seward.
Linda_G, Sep 2025
Make sure you get tickets to Wheaton you closer to so you don’t have drive in town. We messed up and had to drive 55 minutes to catch train and we were 5 minutes away from a train stop.
Also don’t try to get the stop changed to closer stop they won’t even think about it like nope.

It was nice to walk around the city though can get done with that pretty fast so may want to book something to fill the time.

Took a round trip from Anchorage to Seward, was a great trip! Easy check in process in Anchorage & Seward. However the only thing I will add is when you get to D, E, F cars they aren’t labeled inside so it’s confusing which cart you’re in! The carts could use a fresh coat of paint but that’s me being picky!! All in all great trip!! Would definitely label the insides of the carts I had so many people ask what cart they were in!

Relaxing, low stress means of vista binging. Steward is even low key, but fun. The Sea Life Center has many creatures of interest. Wildlife on the trip was interesting.
Frank_D, Aug 2025
Great experience. Have something to do when you reach the town otherwise you’re in for a long wait for the return trip.
Sarah_G, Aug 2025
The train was a lot of fun. It was nice to not be driving for a bit. We saw a lot of different animals and the train staff did an amazing job to point them out, give fun details about the areas we were passing through, and slow the train down in order to get some great pictures.

This is experience was easy to get to, and a great experience. My husband took me for my 50th birthday. I loved everything about this trip.

If you plan on staying in town there's quite a bit of walking. There are busses which we didn't understand at first. Very beautiful!
