Known for its natural beauty, Lake Tahoe draws year-round visitors seeking outdoor adventures, but in the winter season, the focus is on skiing and snow sports. While the lake sits at 6,225 feet (1,897 meters), the Sierra Nevada mountains rise above 10,000 feet (3,048 meters), making for some excellent ski terrain.

With 14 Lake Tahoe ski resorts to choose from, it can be a challenge to decide where to spend your ski day. This Lake Tahoe ski resort review includes family-friendly spots that offer top-notch lessons, resorts with terrain parks and advanced trails, and even a few properties where the aprés-ski vibe is as cool as the slopes.

S'mores are the reward for a day spent at Northstar ski school.

Northstar is one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in Lake Tahoe. It offers lots of ski-in-ski-out lodging options, so you don't have to lug gear and kids all over the place. For kids ages three and up, Northstar's ski school will get them out on the slopes for half-day or full-day lessons. Then, when you're ready for a break from the snow sports, enjoy some burgers at Bourbon Pub and rent some skates for a spin around the ice. Finishing the day with some s'mores by the fire pits is always the goal.

2. For beginners: Palisades Tahoe

Palisades Tahoe is one of the best ski resorts in Lake Tahoe for beginners, as its ski school is top-rated. While most ski resorts have their green beginner slopes at the bottom of the mountain near the lodge, this resort has its slopes mid-mountain, allowing beginning skiers to enjoy the stunning mountain views. Plus, you can access the beginner runs via aerial tram, which is all part of the fun. Then, use three dedicated lifts to get to your start point once you get to the beginner area.
