Valentina is the best!

Paige_V, Jun 2026
Valentina was an amazing guide! She's so knowledgeable about history, and it made the tour so much better. This was my friend's first time in Italy, and I haven't been here since I was in college, so I don't remember a lot of the historical facts. Remember to bring an electric fan; it's so hot and stuffy in a lot of these parts of the Vatican, it's always crowded, and we can'twear tank tops or shorts. I kind of wish that we had brought wet wipes to clean ourselves up after the tower climb, too (at least we brought deodorant). The tower climb is grueling, but view is phenomenal from up there! Save your energy and take the elevator up to the terrace. I know the tour is 5 hours and starts at 7am on your vacation, but there's absolutely no doubt that this tour is worth it!

Only book Museum and Sistine Chapel

Lkjansen14, Jun 2026
I was so looking forward to seeing the Sistine Chapel. But we stood in line for 2.5 hours waiting to take a lift to the dome. I kept asking out guide if we could just take the stairs, but he insisted we wait for the lift. After waiting for 2.5 hours, we ended up taking the stairs anyway. By the time we got to the museum, I only had 20 minutes to the scheduled time for the tour to end. I had to literally run through the museum to see the Sistine Chapel. I was only able to walk through and see it for 2 minutes. The Sistine Chapel was the main reason to book this tour, climbing the dome and seeing St Peter’s was only secondary. I now need to come to Rome again and only book the museum and Sistine Chapel. So disappointing!!!!

So Glad I Took This Tour

Christopher_B, May 2026
My favorite part was the dome climb only because I already had the privilege of touring the Vatican on a previous visit. The dome climb is not for the faint of heart and definitely not if you are claustrophobic but if you can do it, I highly recommend! The sustained chapel part of this tour is a lot, not because seeing the Sistine Chapel isn’t beautiful, it’s because of all the galleries of artifacts and paintings you have to go through before you get to the Sistine Chapel. I would not recommend bringing children on this tour as there is a lot of walking! I’m not saying your kids shouldn’t see the Vatican, just don’t do the combination with the Sistine Chapel. Highly recommend this tour otherwise.

Amazing tour! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable & made sure we had a great experiment. It was our second time during the tour & it was even better than the first.

Great experience. Our guide made all the difference.

Daniel_M, May 2026
Chiara made this tour, an amazing one! She has a great personality, is very knowledgeable, and made sure everyone had their questions answered. Always a smile on her face and the patience to work with people. My wife and I were delighted with this experience and we attribute it to her. The coordination from the company was very good. They texted the day before with a reminder and were puntual the day of the tour.

Response from Host, May 2026

Hi Daniel, Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I am absolutely delighted to hear that you and your wife had such a memorable experience exploring the Sistine Chapel and the Dome. Chiara is indeed a true gem, and her passion, patience, and bright personality are exactly what we strive to bring to every tour. I will be sure to share your incredibly kind words with her, as I know it will make her day. It is also great to know that our communication and punctuality helped make your day seamless and stress-free. Thank you for choosing to tour with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future. Safe travels!

A Great Day in Vatican City

Mark_S, May 2026
We had a great day with Loretta as our guide and highly recommend the 7:15am tour to avoid the long lines. We first went to St. Peter's Basilica, one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen and then the climb to the top of the dome, approx 330 steps through narrow corridors for a magnificent view of the city and surrounding gardens. Loretta shared her passion of history and art as we toured the museum on our way to the Sistine Chapel. She also offered great narrative and history about Michael Angelo and The Sistine Chapel which was the highlight of our tour and beyond breathtaking.

Great, but a bit long

Ashley_D, Mar 2026
Our guide was great, knowledgeable, and friendly. Ultimately the tour was just too long for our family. The catch is, if you don’t do a guided tour it would be pretty difficult to navigate and understand where to go both inside the Vatican and between buildings. There are way too many people and so many lines, as the Vatican doesn’t limit the amount of tickets sold. We also encountered the “skip the line” lines that were VERY long. So actually skipping the lines with the tour guides is your best bet. So great tour, just be prepared for a long day.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Hi Ashley, Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. We are really glad to hear that you found the guide knowledgeable and friendly, and that the skip the line access helped you navigate what can be an extremely busy and complex site. We completely understand your comment about the length of the experience. This tour is listed as approximately 5 hours on the booking page, as it covers several major areas of the Vatican, including the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica, and the Dome climb, all of which require time for entry procedures, security checks, and movement between different sections of the complex. We also appreciate your point about the crowds and queues. The Vatican can be particularly busy, and even with priority access, some waiting time is unfortunately unavoidable due to capacity limits and security procedures. We are very pleased you still had a positive experience overall, and your comments are genuinely helpful for future guests in setting expectations for what is a full and in depth visit.

ROMA in winter

Kathleen_C, Feb 2026
Must climb to the top of the dome...it was beautiful. Be prepared for lots of stairs every where in Rome...Vatican too. Get the early 7am tour...you almost have the place to yourself. Traveling during the winter months gave us cooler temps and the chance of rain but it worked out quite well for our stay...just bring an umbrella and/or rain jacket. Maria, our guide knew her stuff and could read our group quite well (quite funny too). Highly recommend her as a guide!!!! Hint: You will take lots of pics except for the chapel (no photography allowed in there). Make sure everything is fully charged before the tour.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hi Kathleen, Thank you for such a detailed and thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed climbing the dome and that Maria made the tour both informative and fun. You’re absolutely right—Rome has lots of stairs, but the views are more than worth it. We really appreciate your tips for fellow travellers, and it’s wonderful that the early start and winter timing worked out so well. We hope to welcome you back for more Roman adventures in the future!

Sold a lie

Sandra_B, Dec 2025
The guide was wonderful but we were sold a lie. Paid a lot of money for just a St. Peter’s basilica visit. No dome tower or cistine chapel tour. Which is what was advertised! Robbery!

Response from Host, Dec 2025

We are pleased to hear that you found your guide to be wonderful during your visit. We understand your disappointment regarding the sites you expected to see. We want to clarify that while the main product page for this tour offers multiple options (Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Dome Climb), our booking system allows customers to select specific, separate components under the same listing. Based on our records, it appears the option you selected and was detailed on your final voucher was the St. Peter's Basilica only tour. The price difference reflects the exclusion of the Sistine Chapel and Dome Climb. We sincerely regret any confusion that arose from the different selection options on the booking page. We strive to make the specific inclusions for each variant as clear as possible at the time of purchase and on the final voucher. If you wish to explore the other sites, we would be happy to help you book a future tour that includes the Sistine Chapel and Dome Climb.

Thank you for your fantastic review! We are delighted to hear that your guide for the Sistine Chapel and Basilica tour was so nice and his knowledge was impressive. That dedication is pure joy! We hope to see you on another insightful tour soon.

Our guide was the best. I wish I could remember his name, but he was so knowledgeable. It would not have been the same experience on our own.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Beauty Exist in the Details

Jesus_P, Sep 2025
Visiting Vatican City was an unforgettable experience. Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and of course, the Sistine Chapel were nothing short of breathtaking. The sheer beauty and history left me lost for words at times—it’s almost overwhelming to take in so much richness in one place. One of the highlights for me was climbing to the top of the dome and seeing a bird’s-eye view of St. Peter’s Basilica. The climb was strenuous, with many steps and a lot of walking involved, but the reward at the top was absolutely worth it. We also had the honor and privilege of walking through the holy door. As for the guided portion of the tour, I would consider it average. While the guide was knowledgeable, I often struggled to understand him, and at times it felt as though more time was spent talking than giving us the chance to truly absorb the surroundings. Given the crowds during this Jubilee year, I also felt that the guide didn’t handle the atmosphere as smoothly as I would have hoped. That said, the experience of the Vatican itself far outweighed these challenges. The art, architecture, and atmosphere are truly once-in-a-lifetime, and I would absolutely recommend visiting—just be prepared for a lot of walking, climbing, and crowds.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for your review. We're thrilled you found the Vatican's beauty and history breathtaking and that climbing the dome was a highlight. We apologize that the guided portion fell short of your expectations. We're sorry you had trouble understanding the guide and that the pace felt rushed. Your feedback about balancing commentary with time to absorb the surroundings is invaluable, and we'll use it to improve our tours, especially during busy times like the Jubilee year. We're glad the overall experience was so positive and appreciate your recommendation.

Busy tour with a lot to see. Our guide Alba was amazing. She had great knowledge to share with a lot of detail. She greatly cared about the subject material.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

We appreciate your feedback. It's great to hear that despite the crowds, you found your Vatican tour to be an amazing experience thanks to our guide, Alba. We agree that she is passionate and has a wealth of knowledge to share.

Very Disappointed with Viator's Customer Service – No Flexibility or Support

David_S, Jul 2025
I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Viator. I accidentally booked a tour for the wrong date and realised the mistake just ten minutes later. I immediately contacted Viator to amend the booking, but was shocked to find they refused to help in any way – no option to change the date, no refund, and not even a willingness to contact the tour operator, The Tour Guy, on my behalf. The tour cost $330, which is not a small amount, and I find it incredibly frustrating that there is absolutely no flexibility or grace period for honest mistakes made within minutes. This experience shows a complete lack of customer care and support. I expected far better from a company like Viator. I would strongly caution others to double-check every detail before booking, because if anything goes wrong – even a simple error made within minutes – you're completely on your own.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Hi David, Thank you again for sharing your experience—we completely understand how frustrating this situation must have felt, especially given how quickly you caught the booking error. We do want to clarify that while the booking was made through Viator, this review reflects on our product and business as the tour operator. Despite the initial mix-up, we went ahead and rebooked you on your intended date of July 19th at no additional charge, even though we only received a refund request from Viator after the original tour date had passed. We truly believe this has been resolved on our end with fairness and flexibility, and we hope your upcoming tour delivers the excellent experience we strive to provide. If you feel your review is more reflective of Viator’s customer service, we’d greatly appreciate if you would consider updating it to reflect your experience with The Tour Guy specifically. We work hard to support our guests—even when third-party booking challenges arise—and your feedback makes a real impact.

Extremely disappointed

Joanna_B, Jun 2025
Unfortunately we had one of the worst guides we’ve ever experienced. He would not wait for guests struggling to catch up to the group, spoke too quickly (often mumbling) and became frustrated if anyone asked him to repeat or explain anything. A great deal of time seemed to be wasted by him leaving guests to wander by themselves and then wait around for him to rejoin us. Absolutely rushed through the Vatican part of tour, took our headphones away and abandoned us at the Sistine Chapel before end of tour. Would not recommended

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, especially in such an iconic location. The behavior you described is far from the standard we aim to uphold, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. I wish I had more information on which specific tour you were on — based on your name and last initial, I’m unable to locate your reservation in our system. Please reach out to us at support@thetourguy.com with your booking reference number so we can investigate this further and address it properly with our local team. Your comments are important to us, and we want to ensure this type of experience is not repeated.

Disorganized

blake_C, May 2025
Tour was a little disorganized. Tour guide only briefly visited Sistine chapel and missed papal crypt. Guides English language was hard to understand.

Response from Host, May 2025

Thank you for your feedback—we’re sorry to hear the tour didn’t meet expectations. We understand how frustrating it must have been to miss key parts like the Papal Crypt and to struggle with the guide’s clarity. Please know that May 8th was an exceptionally unique and challenging day for any tour operator, as the Conclave was in session and St. Peter’s Basilica remained an active religious site throughout the day. Ongoing prayer services for the late Pope Francis and the announcement of the new Pope meant restricted access and adjustments across all tours. We truly hope you were able to return to the Square to witness the presentation—it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment to experience firsthand. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts; we’ll pass them along to our team for review.

Worthwhile morning!

Maryanne_W, May 2025
Enjoyed spending the morning with our guide Patrizia. The done climb is amazing! Yes, lots of steps and narrowing walls but a wonderful view. St. Peter’s Basilica was truly a spiritual experience. The museums are challenging due to the number of visitors and we were more than ready to exit but appreciated the historical collection of art. Sorry to have missed out on the Sistine Chapel due to the newly elected Pope. Still very happy we did this tour.

Response from Host, May 2025

Thank you for sharing such thoughtful feedback! We’re so glad you enjoyed your time with Patrizia—she’s truly wonderful. The dome climb is definitely a workout, but that view is worth every step! While it's unfortunate the Sistine Chapel was closed due to the Papal event, it’s great to hear that the rest of the tour was meaningful and memorable. We hope you’ll return someday to see the Chapel too!

It was very crowded but...

James_K, Mar 2025
It was very crowded but the guide got us through it well. I would recommend it , not sure we could do it on our own.

Response from Host, Mar 2025

It’s great to hear that your guide helped navigate the crowds and made the experience smoother! It can definitely be tricky to manage on your own in crowded places, so having a guide makes all the difference. Thanks for the recommendation!

History

Marie_V, Mar 2025
Excellent guide with historical significance. Dome climb was a bit tough, he was patient and directed those of us who were feeling the heat of the day to small openings to get cooler air.

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We’re so glad to hear that your guide was both knowledgeable and patient during the tour. It sounds like the dome climb was a bit challenging, but we’re happy to hear that your guide made sure everyone stayed comfortable, especially in the heat. We appreciate you sharing your experience and hope to welcome you on another tour in the future!

Indescribable Feelings

Dennis_D, Mar 2025
We have this Rome visit as our anniversary trip. Touring around the Vatican was such an unforgettable experience. Walking into the historic aisle of work of arts and countless paintings all throughout our tour was really amazing and ended it with a stop at the famous Sistine Chapel is something I would love to experience again. Brought with me GoPro with 2 batteries back-ups and a camera weren’t enough to capture all those amazing art…it was really an amazing feeling to stepped inside this historic place and not enough words that can describe my feelings after the tour.

Response from Host, Mar 2025

What a beautiful and memorable way to celebrate your anniversary! It sounds like the Vatican was truly a magical experience, with all its incredible art and history. The Sistine Chapel is such a breathtaking highlight, and I completely understand how the beauty of the artwork makes it hard to capture in photos alone. It’s great that you were able to take in so much of the experience—sometimes it’s those moments that are felt in the heart more than anything else! I hope this special trip becomes a cherished memory for both of you.

Dome climb was brilliant

Kathryn_L, Mar 2025
I cannot speak highly enough of our guide Fabritsio who took us to the Dome of St Peters Basilica. My mother struggled a bit on the climb, he was patient and encouraged her to take breaks along the way and stood with us telling us about his life in Italy. Would recommend this guide to anyone visiting Rome. For the Vatican museums they were beautiful and the sistine chapel was second to none. Unfortunately the same could not be said for our guide Marzia on the part of the tour. We found her to be quite condescending at times and made the tour feel a bit uncomfortable, with at points asking questions in an interview style and laughing when you got it wrong. It felt like she was more worried about her looks than the happiness of the group. This did not take away from the experience as we made the most of it but it did add a dampner after such a fantastic morning

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're so happy to hear that Fabritsio made your visit to St. Peter's Basilica memorable, and we truly appreciate his patience and kindness in ensuring your mother felt comfortable during the climb. We’re glad you had a wonderful time with him, and we’re sure he’ll be thrilled to hear your kind words! We also appreciate your feedback about Marzia, and we’re truly sorry that the tour experience wasn’t as positive as it should have been. We always aim to create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for our guests, and we’ll certainly take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve our tours. Thank you again for your thoughtful review, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Rome soon!

Awesome all-inclusive Vatican tour

Barbara_B, Feb 2025
Excellent, thorough & comprehensive tour of all things Vatican. Maria was so knowledgeable in the history & art yet also easy to understand.

A feast for the eyes

Emma_A, Feb 2025
The dome climb was definitely worth it, the view at the top was amazing! Our guide Lisa was very knowledgeable and informative. We got a little stuck in the crypt with a group of pilgrims praying at one of the tombs which held us up 15-20 minutes, but she didn’t let that phase her and just kept on giving us facts and figures and kept us engaged. The Vatican museums were a little rushed, but you could stay and do them at your own pace after the tour if you wished. The Sistine Chapel is obviously the highlight and we had a good 20-25 minutes in there which was wonderful to take it all in. I would highly recommend this experience!

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the dome climb and the breathtaking views. Lisa sounds like she did a fantastic job keeping the tour engaging, even with unexpected delays. The Sistine Chapel is truly a highlight, and we’re glad you had time to soak it all in. Your recommendation means a lot, and we hope to welcome you on another tour soon!

Was a fantastic tour. Started very early at 7am but worth it. Vatican was just opening so it was pretty empty. Tour guide was very informative and friendly.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

We're so glad to hear you had a fantastic experience! Starting early really does have its perks, especially when you get to enjoy the Vatican without the crowds. It sounds like your guide made the experience even better with their knowledge and friendly attitude. Thanks for sharing your review!

Beyond Words

Karen_J, Dec 2024
Yumana was an amazing guide. She brought us to the dome of St. Peter’s first, carefully describing the climb so that we knew exactly what we were in for. She made sure that we understood the significance of the pieces in the Vatican museum and steered us to some extremely interesting pieces. After ending the Museum tour in the Sistine Chapel she brought us to St. Peter’s Basilica and explained some of the pieces we might otherwise miss - which we had when we visited on our own three days before. Very highly recommended.

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're delighted to hear that Yumana made your Vatican and St. Peter's Dome tour so memorable. It’s fantastic to know she provided such insightful guidance, ensuring you fully appreciated the significance of the artwork and landmarks. Yumana’s ability to make the experience both informative and engaging truly highlights the value of a great tour guide. We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back for more amazing adventures!
